They won the game, that is for sure... Great job. But there isn't any possible way to get around Talib getting smoked on that play. Not sure what is here to debate.
-
whoa Jordy is fast

I had to make it a nice subject line or else the hawks wouldn't open it. Notice how none of them have commented?

you have to go to the field level replay to see what happened. By the time you can see them nelson has already pushed off and talib has made a mistake. Nelson beat him on that play for sure but it wasn't purely on speed.
In the end Talib came out the champ. Notice how he didn't go deep again? I wonder why? Oh and every time they tried to 'beat' talib after that he was all over nelson...including the int of course.

Int was a floater thrown into the wind... come on.

Didn't go deep again because didn't put Talib man to man without help on Jordy the rest of the day. Prince said in his press conference they wanted that match up and that was the only time they found it. Said ku coaches were mindful of that match up and were not going to leave Talib on him. After the game Mangino said that Jordy was one of the 5 best WR's ever to play in the big 12. Also on the int the ball was thrown to Daniel Gonzales not Nelson.
Talib gets too much credit your best defensive player far and away is McClinton. Daniel Gonzales got open and caught balls on Talib several times. I was thinking Talib might leave early for the draft after this year but after seeing him play I'm not sure how high he'll be drafted. No way in hell he's really 6'2" Jordy towered over him.
-
Jordy is good and fast. Great recruit, Ron Prince should be commended for finding that diamond in the rough (oh wait. NM)
To those that think that was Jordy blowing by Aqib on speed alone must all simultaneously blink at 0:37.

You mean Nelson swatting off the arm bar by Talib?
-
Wow. If Talib can't handle having his arm swatted down he's going to be dropped from every single draft board coast to coast.

He might be able to make the league as a safety. There is no way anyone in the NFL could see that play and consider drafting him as a corner. That one play destroyed his dreams of being a cornerback in the NFL.
Well, that play combined with the fact that he's not very good.
-
Jordy burned him on that play for sure, but I thought they were pretty evenly matched for the rest of the game. Plus Jordy dropped some passes over the middle in the second half that he doesn't normally drop. I thought that was strange.
-
Interesting concept, that going deep. Maybe we should try it more than once a game.

Sure, they were evenly matched after the ku coaches realized that Talib couldn't handle Jordy and gave him help.
-
Nelson may have pushed off, but he was still faster than Talib. Talib couldn't catch up to him when Nelson put on the afterburners. I don't really see much of a debate here, Nelson's a freaking rocket.
-
Talib is not a shut down corner. He makes big plays by trying to jump routes and bait QBs. He's atheletic enough to get away with it against average and below WR. Against NFL caliber receivers he's toast. He'll get drafted, but he's no Newman. There is a reason that Magino doesn't move him around to cover the other teams best guy one on one. He's not capable of taking away a teams best reciever. If he were, Magino would do it...the fat man isn't stupid. Talib's good at what he does...but he's not a lock down corner.

Maybe you're right, I wasn't watching that closely. I'm not trying to dog on Jordy, I think he is a great player and I hope he continues to represent his state and go to the NFL. I'm just saying that he didn't kill us like he has other teams.

qft x 100000000. To say that he effected Jordy's play at all is a joke. Nelson still had 100+ and a TD, and Talib was never on an island with him again after that play.
-
ku fans are being tards.
First they tried to say Talib went for the jam. No, he didn't because Nelson took a beeline for the sidelines and Talib turned and went w/ him. There was no attempt to jam and miss and would've been foolish given Nelson's strength and size.
Now they're saying Jordy "pushed off". Ummm, no, he merely knocked away an arm bar. For ku fans that is a term used for corners who stick an arm out both to feel the contact when they look back and to "hold" the receiver or slow him down. Talib felt Nelson wizzing by him and arm barred. Jordy knocked the arm away, didn't push off.
Talib simply got beat.
And it's not like Talib beat anybody on his TD. Just a schemed rub rout..perfectly legal but it was man coverage and a LB was supposed to run w/ him.
Talib didn't do anything special in the game.
-
To be fair to Talib, he wasn't in that bad of a position when the ball got there. He could almost reach Jordy, but it was delivered in stride and on the money. He just didn't have the physical strength to knock Jordy off his route at the line or the speed to catch him after he got by.
It is also a credit to Mangino that he didn't allow Talib to be in that situation again. We could have done that all day long. He isn't stupid, but it made me want to vomit when I had to listen to him gush about what a great player Talib is after the game. He's coached teams with corners that were a lot better and he knows it.

He wanted to jam him. There is no other reason to be up that close.

Talib is a crafty corner. Yosh, you said it - in college a Talib will look good, but to classify him as great - he would need to be more like Newman - a pure lock down corner. I dont see Talib making any waves in the NFL. Here is a perfect example, OU has had GREAT defenses - not too many of their defensive "dominators" are playing on Sundays. Again, my opinion takes nothing away from Talib or the fact that all of our key position players took the day off and handed the game to ku on a freaking platter, but Talib = NFL is not even close.

If "outrunning" means beating a guy who has to come from the other side of the field...well, yeah. LOL.

no you didn't. Talib is not even in the same neighborhood as Newman.
-
I was all ready to break out the "Chris Brown is really fast and has played in the NFL for 5 years" argument until I realized what a bs video that was. Then I went back and watched the Jordy/Talib video again to compare because maybe we weren't fair to Talib either...
I really don't think it has been stressed enough how badly Talib was burned. He might as well have been a seventh grader playing Pop Warner. Mangino could have done as well. If that would have been the first time Talib had ever been in a game, he would have been pulled immediately and never played again...ever.
