Title: Big 12 North
Post by: Kat Kid on October 06, 2007, 11:36:38 PM
Let's see what everyone has left.  Bolded are games that teams could reasonably lose.

for ku:

at Colorado
at Texas A&M
#25 Nebraska
at Oklahoma St
Iowa St
#17 Missouri

NU:

Oklahoma St
Texas A&M
at #19 Texas
at Kansas
#24 Kansas St
at Colorado

MU:

at #10 Oklahoma
Texas Tech
Iowa St
at Colorado
Texas A&M
at #24 Kansas St
at Kansas

CU:

at #24 Kansas St
Kansas
at Texas Tech
#17 Missouri
at Iowa St
#25 Nebraska

K-State

Colorado
at Oklahoma St

Baylor
at Iowa St
at #25 Nebraska
#17 Missouri
at Fresno St

Thoughts:

We are 3-2.  We have 7 games remaining.  We need 4 wins for a bowl game and we can still win the North even if we drop one more game (as long as it isn't to CU or MU).  Mizzou has 4 killer road trips left and I think they will lose at least two of them.  ku has the easiest schedule remaining and it is a terrifying thought, but I have to believe they will f this up.  NU finishes with @ Texas, @ ku, K-State and @ CU.  CU still has to go to T-Tech, but this is a must win next Saturday.

The season is not lost.  Other teams are struggling or are going to struggle.  Other teams have more difficult schedules.  Colorado comes to town and we have to win that game.  After that we can re-evaluate the season, Prince etc.

we have to beat CU, ISU, and Baylor, winning at OSU is not out of the question either.  I'll be shocked if ku beats CU, A&M, Mizzou.  actually OSU is up there with CU IMO.

K-State

Colorado ... coin toss
at Oklahoma St ... loss
Baylor ... win
at Iowa St ... win
at #25 Nebraska ... loss
#17 Missouri ... loss
at Fresno St ... coin toss, they did take A&M to three OTs

***

If you're lucky you go into that last game needing it to become "bowl eligible" which is no guarantee, remember what happened to a six-win Kansas squad last year?

And there's no way you have a chance at the North having to go to Lincoln and with Missouri playing like they are, the are DESTROYING Nebraska ... and Kansas will too!

You're going to DESTROY Nebraska?  Ok.  Have fun with that.

6-win teams with fans who travel (i.e., teams that can get far more than 2,600 out of an alotted 3,300 tickets sold to a superbowl just 80 miles from that team's hometown) tend to get invited to bowl games regardless of their season's respectability.

we have never beaten OSU since the inception of the Big XII.  I would say that game is extremely losable.

I was being generous on purpose.

We're not going to win the North.  Everyone needs to adjust their goals at this point.  The new goal is to become bowl eligible for the second straight season.  That we can do.

Why?

Cause we aren't as good as MU and ku.  On par w/ NU & CU.  We'll be battling those 2 teams for 3rd in the north.

God this week is going to suck.

Mu isn't going to lose more than 2 of their remaining games.  ku probably loses 2-3 and nubb's got a good sched but not the tie breaker.

We HAVE to win 3 of next 4 and take it from there.

Nebraska is absolutely horrible.  Terrible.

ku will win that game.  The same Ball State team that put up over 600 yards on Nebraska lost by 20 points to Central Michigan.  Mizzou flat-out embarrassed Nebraska last night.  Baylor, Iowa State, and Nebraska are all pretty much locks for ku at this point.

If we can find a way to win at Colorado then I think the North is our's for the taking.

Why would the North be ku's if they beat Colorado? What game is Mizzou supposed to lose? The only game that Mizzou will be the underdog in is OU and they still have a decent shot at winning that one. ku will probably lose at least two more - possible losses are @ CU, @ OSU, Texas A&M and Mizzou. K-State will likely lose two more - possible losses would be Mizzou, CU, @ OSU, and @ NU.

I would say MU is the front-runner.  ku is sitting in second with a huge break not having to see OU or UT,  Between that and the tie break, KSU might have to win out in the big 12 to have a shot to catch them.  ISU will be in 6th and I am thinking NU 5th.  If OSU's O plays like it can, calls for Cally's head will get even louder.

We lost to uk, that stinks and uk sucks.  However, we beat the best team on our schedule on the road.  Any Cat fan who concedes the North, now needs to check their credentials.  Remember how it was over last year after the loss to Baylor?  We'll get through this and we can win the North in 07! Believe it!
