the rule about icing the kicker should be changed. if anybody saw the florida/auburn game UM called a timeout at the exact time of the hike. that just seems cheap to me. they should make a rule to where you cant do that within 10 secs of the playclock or something.
Thoughts?
-
2nd that!
-
I was thinking the same thing when I saw that.
-
Was the ball already snapped?
-
I agree. It's becoming a total bush league trend. F*** you Mike Shanahan. :curse:
-
Dumb thread.
Nothing is wrong with the rule.
-
just wait until we make a game winning field goal only to have it called back, then your dumbass will be humming a different tune
-
No, I won't.
You should be able to call a timeout any time before the snap.
-
your just knocking my thread because you feel like it is your duty as an "All-American" to not agree with a cub :twobirds:
-
considering that Tubberville helps write the rule book....it is probably already under review.

^^^ Not surprising.

Somebody pulled that on us last year, may have been UT, but we still made the second attempt too. I remember seeing Ron looking across at the other coaches and smirking as he's saying something into the mic. It is weak and cheap, but hard to argue against allowing it.
-
Honestly, people.
Stop being tards.
There is no good reason for this rule to be changed.
None.
-
I just can't wait until the coach does this and the kicker misses it, then makes it the second time. lol
-
What about punts? How many seconds should it be before a punt? Dumb.
-
Definitely cheap. Maybe legal but lacks any class whatsoever!

That's been my thought since this became a hot topic a couple weeks back. This is a move that could easily backfire...

Agreed.
The rule is there and to NOT take advantage of it, is being a poor coach. If the majority of coaches don't like it, they'll change it during the off season.

All you could possibly do is go back to disallowing timeouts from the sideline. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to call a timeout before a field goal attempt, and attempting to legislate some kind of "no timeout window" for certain plays would be ridiculous.

I don't like this either. If a coach sees something they don't like, they should be able to call a timeout as long as the ball isn't in play.
-
You'll all change your mind when we win a game like that.
-
that not what im saying. a coach shouldn't be able to have a ref stand by his side, and call a timeout at the exact time the ball is snaped.

There's going to be a line judge standing there no matter what. The coach can go pretty much wherever he wants.

Was the ball already snapped?
Answer the question
Ask yourself if a timeout is ever allowed if the ball is already in play. Then, once you figure that out, punch yourself in the face for being retarded. hth

The best was when NU played here in 04 and they called a timeout to ice our kicker before the half. Rheem nails it then turns to the NU sideline and throws his hands up to let them know they can do whatever the hell they like, he's still going to nail it.
-
it can go both ways. What if the kicker missed it but the coach called a TO. Then he nails it the second time.
-

exactly, or like what else is postd...the first one is a miss and the second one wins the game.
-
It's a legit strategy. The kind of thing Snyder would've done.

That was a rhetorical, I'll wait while you get a dictionary to look that word up, question you moron. My point was that if the ball isn't snapped you should have the right to call a timeout. In the future I won't expect you to read between the lines to figure things out for yourself.

Bielemma was actually the first to implement this strategy.. Just like he used one of the new clock rules last year off of the kickoff to run out the half.

Hm..

Are you 5? Do you not understand the basic rules of the game of football?
That's a rhetorical question.
