Title: First Commit?
Post by: bozocat on September 20, 2007, 06:45:46 PM
Also transferring is Abdul Herrera, a 6-10 center who originally signed with Cincinnati out of Panama City and has verbally committed to Kansas State.

"He's one of the better, if not the best, post player I've had," Swanson said. "He's a true five-man in every sense. He has not played in two years because he redshirted at Cincinnati, then went to a (Division II school) and broke his foot in the second game. But he has a good body and he's a good athlete for as tall as he is."

Not exactly Kadji, but it's a start.

05/17/05: "Incoming 6-foot-11 freshman Abdul Herrera from South Miami Senior High School said he is still coming to Cincinnati because Huggins will be the coach for at least two more years. After that, though, Huggins' contract situation is uncertain because the school announced Monday that discussions concerning his contract have stopped without restoring the rollover provision or extending the contract beyond the remaining two years. "But if Coach Huggins has to leave after two years, I won't play for Cincinnati anymore," Herrera said. "If he was to leave after two years, I would follow him. I really want to play for Coach Huggins. He can take me to the next level." - Enquirer.com

Kind of ironic that he went to Cincinnati because of that drunk, and then comes here after he leaves.

Martin is telling people we've got more good players that want to sign with KSU next year then we have ships open.  I think Herrera is one of the guys that wants to sign with KSU just a question of which guys actually end up getting ships.  Last I knew he didn' have an offer.   I like the fact that Martin recruits a bunch of guys.  Seemed like Wooly would target a few key guys and  if we missed on them we were hosed and left with scraps.

Remember when he went bold and daring and predicted a better '08 class than the '07 class?

Frank...please don't ever do bold and daring again. Thanks.

I had tried (successfully) to forget.

Thanks.

wow, Frank's 08 recruiting is going horribly.

Why is this so horrible?  I admit, he's no Kadji, Spoon, Warren or other "elite" recruit.  He was the #74 player in the country out of H.S. though, and had lots of offers from major programs such as Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgetown, Illinois, Ohio State, Cincinnati, St. Johns and UConn.  He's a prototypical 5 that can score on the blocks and is a rebounding machine.  He'll definitely be an upgrade over Colon.  If nothing else, we have a big body who can give us 5 fouls when we go up against a legitimate center.  With an off-season conditioning program under Greenawalt, he should become a good role player, and teams always need good role players.  How quickly we become spoiled when it comes to recruiting.  I'm just glad the first domino fell.  Maybe now we can get down to the nitty gritty on the recruiting trail.

QFT

K-State MUST take this approach in recruiting.

Yes, Wooly offered him but of course could not get him to come here. Now Herrera is ours to have if we want him.

Maybe you don't see the difference between the Wooly era and now. Anyway, the information in that article is incorrect, Herrera has not been offered a scholly yet, but if we want or need him he is ours.

Ok, sorry to had interupted everyone. You can go back to your whining and our future stinks post now.

I'm no fan of high school centers (at least the hype/rankings associated with them).  Let's see how he does at Hutch before we call him a "rebounding machine".  You have to admit, though.  Herrerra was pretty far down Frank's list.
