Title: Chris Babb

Good lineage.  This is an old article:

Quote
His oldest son Chris seems ready to take an even bigger step into college basketball.

A 6-foot-5 wing guard at The Oakridge School in the family's new home in Arlington, Texas, Chris Babb recently committed to coach Steve Alford at New Mexico after gently upstaging the famous former Indiana scorer at Alford's recent Elite Camp.

"Alford was showing how he could still shoot and hit 18 straight 3-pointers,'' Mike Babb related. "Well, Chris is there in flip-flops when coach asks him to shoot. He hits 17 straight, then gets nudged by coach when he hits No. 18 before hitting two more.

I spoke with someone close to the family, he is looking to commit somewhere closer to home (between Texas and Kansas, so the entire family can see him play) - preferably a Big XII school.  If OSU doesn't take him, I think he comes to K-State.

I think he will have an offer by this week.  We still need to get him on an official.

We should have offered when that story came out.

That was when we still thought we had chances with Willie Warren, Kenny Kadji, etc...

July 11?  Willie Warren? seriously?

Kadji committed in June.

I can't think of any SG's we've lost out on since July 11.

My timeline was incorrect then.  June, we still had a chance with the 5 star prospects. Then the 4 star prospects, and now we are hoping for 3 star prospects.

I couldn't really find any information on the Lobo boards of why he re-opened his recruitment. They seem disappointed upon hearing the news.  I don't think he is interested in UNM anymore, though.

He's not according to that scout page.

That would be great if he came back to Kansas.  He has a ton of friends and family in the Seaman district.  Just think if he didnt go down to Texas he wouldnt be getting any of this attention

I'm sure you're hearing alot of things right now and I envy your position. I just want you to know that any school can give you a scholarship, and with your talent you would star at any school you choose to play for. You are that good!

However, there is only one school that treats our players like heroes. Only one school that plays in the mecca of college basketball. Only one school that has a ramp saying a mile above sea level and louder than... Once you hit the floor of The Pit you will see exactly how loud and electric it is! Unlike any other arena in the world. Voted the #13 best sports venue in the world by Sports Illustrated. Our players aren't players here, they are HEROES! And that is what we want you to be.

my dream 08 five:

witherspoon
gilchrist (or samuels if gilchrist takes his mid 07 spot)
little
keller
evans

no room for babb.  once ksu misses out for the guys i really want, i'll start to pretend to be excited about babb-like talents.

the world is full of guys that can shoot (but aren't high major players).

little

the world is full of guys that can shoot (but aren't high major players).

Most are 5-11 unathletic SG's.  And we don't have anyone that can shoot (as far as I know, maybe Brown or Pullen can) for 2008.  We need that more than a team full of athletic guys that can't shoot.

little is a prototype 3.

what evidence is there that babb can do anything but hit unguarded 3s?  his offer list is underwhelming, and he doesn't have a guady ranking.
Title: Re: Chris Babb
Post by: michigancat on September 18, 2007, 11:42:02 AM
Prototype 3's are worthless to me  They're PF's without post moves.  SF's like Cartier or Josh Carter are the f*cking sh*t, though.

Babb doesn't need to do anything but hit unguarded 3's, IMO.  Also, he's the #34 SG per scout.  By comparison, Pullen was #36, Brown was UR, Samuels UR.

You're just wrapped up in ku's desperation Little offer.

i think the evidence suggests that little can be a decent shooter.

http://www.njcaa.org/schmain.cfm?sid=4&divid=1&gender=m&slid=2&menu=11&cid=1356&seasonselect=347&schmenu=4&teamid=51867

babb has offers from who again?  did he drop unm or did unm drop him?  seriously, if he can really shoot like the article hints, you know he has to have giant holes in his game or he would be a much hotter commodity.  maybe those holes can be fixed, maybe not.  i really have no idea.  never heard of the guy till a week ago.

i agree on how awesome 3s like martin and carter are, btw.

8-26 is not evidence that he is a good shooter.  57% is nice, but if a majority of those came from jump shots, he would be better than 8-26.  PF.

Babb dropped UNM.

I'm just saying, based on how our recruiting has been going (way back to Huggins signing Brown and Pullen) and what we need, I prefer Babb over Little, Keller, and Samuels, regardless of any holes in his game.  That said, I think you could just eliminate one of the 3 to make room for Babb and still get the others.

look at his ft%.  he should be able to shoot.

keller/samuels/little might be a bit redundant.  i would be ecstatic to trade samuels for gilchrist.  but i assume ksu would still take samuels no matter what in order to maintain good relations with dc assault.

Keller is not redundant....he's essential.  We have to have a seasonsed big man who can score in 08 because we will have lost Beasley, Walker, and Hoskins.  Samuels will not get it done and Little is not the post up player that Keller is.  We'll get more young PF help in 09.  In the mean time we need to keep things rolling with Keller.

Keller, if the stories about him are accurate, is the most important recruit in this class.

To add to the comparison, Marcus Denmon, (a 6-0 SG) was #36.

i was just agreeing w. rusty that keller, samuels and keller are have somewhat similar skills.  it is possible to have too many 3s that can post up and 4s that can step out.

witherspoon and gilchrist are more important recruits.  too bad gilchrist is a pipedream.
