1)bad receivers after jordy and deon
2)still haven't connected on a vertical ball
3)sh1tty tight ends
4)we play really dumb (penalties, biting on fake FG)
5)injuries on defense
positive (0>)
1)Freeman looks poised n stuff.
2)Offense is SOO much better than last year
3)hatter was right (as usual :lick: ) o-line best since 2003
4)punt return game is fantastic
5)jordy is fast
6)deon 2
7)Terry Allen is the man.

We finally got a "blow out" win, but I just don't like the lack of big plays (big pass plays). I'm sure there were some, but they were all after a relatively short pass. Can we not connect on a 20+ yard pass? I think we're going to have to improve that to have any chance at texas. And I missed it, but was our first TD on a trick play? Against Missouri St.???

Long pass plays? Are we not WCO any longer? :frown:

Points. Said on the radio that was the first time over 60 since 2002 and it's not like we haven't faced teams worse.
Defense was good. Mizzou State is tough to defend w/ that spread crap and to surrender just 190 and their only TD drive came on another penalty fiesta ala KSU de Manhattan. But MSU has one of the better offenses in 1AA given what they did last week at a good 1AA on the road...and good 1AA offenses would put it to our old lynch mobs at times (Romo w/ EIU, WKy gashed us w/ running game in stretches, McNeese State moved the ball, etc.)
fatty...don't worry about receivers after Jordy and Deon. Ernie looks okay..just needs to get comfortable out there. Lamark is big...both will improve.
yes, OL is better than last 3 years.
Sacks on season: KSU 13 KSU opponents 2
-
positives:
- Freeman with no turnovers
- special teams (minus the rejection from the goalpost and kicking it out of bounds)
- we ran the ball well (although we should against a D-1AA opponent)
- got a lot of people good playing time
- Jordy
negatives:
- penalties (although about 75 yards of that was on absolute BS calls)
- Pierce and Patterson still look lost (but that's expected, I guess)
- Pass coverage, MSU had open recievers all over the field and had some drops
- missed tackles
- Lamark didn't get any reps at LB
-
Fielding a punt at the one and dancing around the goal line was a boneheaded move. Outside of that and the penalty issues, it was a very well played game. Josh's most fundamentally sound game to date.
I wouldn't mind seeing some formations with Johnson and Patton in together...get all 4 of the offensive weapons on the field at once. Add Norwood back to the mix, and that would make for a formidible line-up.
God it was great to be back in Manhattan...

Yes, so I think that Jordy has more TD passes than Freeman, or at least equal to it.
-
Negatives:
-Seems like a lot of people are dinged up (Watts wrist, smoke, leon, etc)
-Penalties....if they were 5 yard false starts it wouldnt be so bad, but the 15 yarders are killers
-No vertical passing game to speak of
Positives:
-Murphy is ridiculously fast with some amazing moves (Figurs+Moreira=Murphy), just needs to become a better route runner
-JJ is really fast and the OL is really coming together and getting to the edge...bc they are fast (RP )
-Lamark is a freak, and did a good job of downfield blocking
-Pierce doesnt look as lost
-Smoke just ran around and played for the 1st half, can be big time disrupter
-2nd team D guys got more reps (Diehl, etc) looked good
Biggest Positive of all.....I got a PowerTowel :ksu:

There were a couple of roughing the passers that were BS, the PI on Garvin was dog crap, and there was a late hit as well that was pure BS.

You can only expect more of that when we go to play Texa$

I just think we need to play smarter there was no need for the roughing the passers. IMHO I didn't see the second, but the first was legit. The late hit was the same call they made on Mo St. later so it evened out. We need to play smarter, no excuses.
Another thing that bothered me: Our TEs have gotten worse in my eyes. Pooshke/Mastrud can't block, they can't really catch and they get penalties. They are pretty much as worthless as they could possibly be.
Without a TE to go over the middle, without a WR to consistently go over the middle and without Deon establishing himself as a legit deep threat yet pretty much the only way we can stretch the field is to try to get Jordy, Deon, JJ or Patton in space on the perimeter and turn a 6 yard out, a bubble screen or a flare into a 60 yard gain. This scares the poop out of me.
-
positives....
- Josh was very efficient. should have had 3 td passes.
- running game looked good (albeit against a D-1aa team)
- Houlik (was everywhere)
- Jordy
- Jeremy Reed (could be a great short yardage guy)
negatives....
- Alesana (those false starts are adding up and i think Prince finally had enough last night)
- to me the receivers look like they're not going 100% on their routes
- a lot of guys still look lost out there
- stupid penalties (very undisciplined football this year)
-
freeman was impresive, but that long ball to a wide open deon should have been a TD, we definently need to cut down on the penaltys, but there were a couple bad calls
-
What's Jordy's official 40 time? Does anyone know? I'm having an arguent w/ someone about it.

Sacks on season: KSU 13 KSU opponents not named Groves 0
Our OL has only given up 2 sacks to the best pass rusher in the nation. Whether Auburn is a good team or not, he's a stud.

That play developed right in front of me. Deon was wide open, but the back judge stepped right in the path of his route and he had to adjust and find where the ref was at. It was laid out perfectly but Deon lost concentration for a second and dropped it.

Atleast this was in a game that didn't matter and maybe we can correct if before UT

don't forget NU, burnt us last year on one

PENALTIES KILL!!! They have to stop - end of story.
Long plays? Ehh, I like them against BIG rivalries (ku, UT, the like) but I dont mind seeing other things agianst lesser competition... I will take less glamorous wins against exciting losses any day. (you can just call me Capt. Obvious) I listened to it on the radio, so I am not privy to first hand info, but I like the blocking and I like the fact that Coffman is getting some reps. Jordy, as long as he stays healthy, will rule. Defense is getting more Lynch-mobesque.

Was the turning point of the game; That knocked the wind out of me; not to mention everyone else wearing purple in that stadium that night.

I like having Terry Allen on the schedule.

Yes, and it was a perfectly thrown ball; Murphy slowed up on his route.
