Title: My take on recruiting
Post by: JohnBrown on September 13, 2007, 11:27:16 AM
KSU & ku fans need to get a life.  I don’t get the point of KSU fans and ku fans bashing one another over recruiting.

If anybody on this forum has ever been recruited in any sport, they know there are many elements at play in the recruiting process

The coach tries to sell his philosophy and the program.

The athlete thinks about playing time, maybe TV exposure, personal ties to the university, relationships w/ a coaching staff, etc.  In many cases, academics is a factor

The whole point of recruiting a player is telling them what they want to hear.  Martin is telling Little that he will be an immediate impact at KSU, if Walker leaves next year.  If Walker needs another year, then Little will get a chance the following year.  If Martin can sell the KSU program to Little, then ku fan should not be surprised if Little commits to KSU.

History shows that many players have turned their back on the elite programs (ku, Duke, uk, NC, etc) to play for a non-traditional power.  Kevin Durant was recruited by some traditional powers, only to choose Texas.

Many fans around the nation were questioning the reason Beasley picked KSU.  What helped the KSU staff is the fact that a member of their staff had a relationship w/ Beasley for a number of years.  His decision was not based on the tradition of KSU basketball, its fans, or the national exposure that KSU bball receives yearly.  It was evident that Beasley wanted out of his commitment to KSU last year, when Huggins broke the hearts of KSU nation and left for WVU.

BTW KSU fan, Phillip McDonald is not the first player to not commit to ku, only to commit to a non-traditional power.  Nor will he be the last.  Jason Kidd and Harold Minor are 2 players that come mind.

It happens every year to every traditional power program.

Eh?
Totally worthless post with the most sqwawker rationalizations per word yet (there most be real concern in beakville about the state of recruiting) with backhanded, unsubstantiated snark of K-State.
Hint hawkerboy, don't come here with your insecurities. It'll only buy you ridicule.

You left out the loot given to players by boosters.

The whole point of recruiting a player is telling them what they want to hear.

Like telling the recruit we'll give you cash, gifts to your brother, and take you and your AAU coach on road trips to watch basketball games.

And that's before you sign!

After you sign, boosters will provide loans to your mother, and provide you with meals, transportation and cash.

When you're done playing, you'll get "graduation" gifts and cash.  With AD blessing no less.

It's fracking amazing that ku loses recruits after a sales pitch like that.

Be careful what you say.  FM has a track record of cheating.  Didn't he not win a state title because he cheated?

At least you have Beasley and Walker for one more year.  Then it is back to the crapper for the Cats.  LOL

Good one, Rusty.

When you can't make an adult contribution to the thread, then attack something irrelevant.

Giving loans to mothers?  Giving kids cash?  Paying for kids (and their AAU coach) to go on road trips?

Lets hear it.

Thanks.  I just spit my drink on my keyboard.

A KSU fan w/ basketball knowledge.  That is the funniest thing I have heard all day.

OMG, now that is funny.

Like I said earlier, just enjoy the next year.

Being a fan of a successful program is not a requirement for basketball knowledge.
