I want NU to win because they're in the north and the Big XII north gets no respect whatsoever.
On the other side of the coin, if they win Callahan will be anointed savior and NU fans will never shut up. And I enjoy giving them crap about his subpar performance thus far. (No victories against a top 20 team, no big wins, no big xii titles, best season isn't as good as solich's average season despite the addition of the extra game and the decline of the rest of the north.)
What do you think?

I tell all the reasonable Husker fans (all four of them) good luck and hope you can win.
For the rest..
I hope they can sit up in church the next morning..

USC all the way.
I find it hard to root for a team that is in DIRECT COMPETITION with KSU -- I realize this game counts as nothing towards the Big XII North race, but a win by NU would bring in better recruits (possibly) and make it harder for KSU to win in the future.
USC

Meh, I lived in LA for a little while, it's USC all the way for me.

I'll line up with the "D" "O" "Double-G" on this one as well.

Yeah, I don't ever root for Nebraska.
-
I wouldn't worry too much about this one USC will have it wrapped up by halftime. I think they're a little better then Wake Forest is with their back up QB. Keller hasn't been good so far and he's yet to even see any real pressure yet. USC is going to rip him a new one.
The NU secondary won't hold up vs. USC either and NU won't be able to get enough of a pass rush to slow them down. Aside from the fact it's in Lincoln this is a worse match up then last year. USC should be better and NU isn't as good.
-
I sometimes have this problem with Big 12 teams, especially in the North. But this is easy for me, I hope USC rolls them and Callahan pusses out and plays it safe again.
-
Huck'em Up Trojans!
-
I laugh at all the people that say "we want NU to win to give the north some respect, it needs a quality team". Really? I don't ever remember fans of other teams cheering for KSU. In fact, I remember fans (specifically NU fans) at the '03 championship game (lol at NU fans thinking they'd be in the B12CG) cheering for OU and there was practically an orgy of delight from ku fans when we choked in '98. Go USC (and their cheerleaders).
-
Hell no.
I only cheer for my cats to win!
We own USC - I would like to see them take down the corn.
-
Yeah, I don't ever root for Nebraska.
I rooted for nub against ku last season :jail:
-
I think Nu can win.
-
I think Nu can win.
Yeah, but we need virtually everything to go our way to do it. Avoid penalties and turnovers, play lights out on defense, use a power running game to set up the pass, and get to Booty early.
So we have a shot, but if I had to bet money straight up, I'd have to go with USC, but in a close one. I'll be rooting like hell for the upset though. :)

I don't think uSC is the #1 team in the country. And NU is night and day in Lincoln compared to on the road.

Normally, Fatty is a nonconformist, and antagonist, and general disturber of the public peace -- one shouldn't let themselves fall into his evil snare.
On this point, however, I'm taking the 'Huskers, but for somewhat selfish reasons. This win for them will be monumental and would clearly present proof that their program has recovered and will again contend for national championships. This win will also set up the most monumental melt down in NU history -- losing to 'Cats and feeling their title contention dreams slip away like diarrhea squirting through their man-loved asses.
-
jmo, but this isn't the 2004 or 2005 trojans. They are very beatable.
-
I think we can win, and the fact that we played a couple of quality opponents probably helps us while they, on the other hand, are inexperienced in many areas. Memorial Stadium is a huge advantage too.
That said, I think we are going to get slaughtered. We have potential, but we have been playing like crap in several key areas ever since we've had Callahan. For instance, to beat these guys, we are going to have to catch the ball if our qb puts it in a receivers hands. Can you see Phillips, Swift, and Nunn doing that throughout the game? Second, what in the hell is going on with our tackling? Our defense is playing better overall and I think Cosgrove schemes fairly well, but we look like a bunch of pansies when we tackle now. We need to drop the Blackshirt tradition until they start to HIT. Last--and this one surprised me--what happened with our offensive line last week? They looked terrible. :flush:
I am all for keeping coaches and giving them a huge opportunity to establish themselves and adapt, so I still am happy keeping Callahan around for a few more seasons. However, starting this year we have the talent we need across the board, so when we can't tackle or catch then the blame falls on him. We need to f-ing step it up. I was pissed watching the Wake game last week--it was the same crap all over again. I am all for 'believing' in your team going into big games like this, but right now it is year four and we haven't been given anything to believe in yet. :banghead:
USC wins 34-6.
-
Damn. I've got more faith in NU than a NU fan does.
I was gonna say I think NU wins something like 27-24.
Of course, this is all subject to change regarding how Callahan calls the game. If he calls it the same way he called it last year against USC, Nebraska can't win. If he actually goes for the throat, then NU can (and should) win. Like fatty said, USC isn't really the #1 team in the nation, and the game is @ Nebraska(huge home team advantage.)

Usc beats Huskers = Media will trash big 12. :frown:
You can't win. :-*

You always hope your rival wins; on that note, I'll be cheering my ass off for USC.
-
Nobody's home field puts 14 points on the board, so USC will handle NU. Yes USC is not the #1 team and NU is improved, but NU must be near perfect to pull it off.
-
here is my problem with this game, i hate espn's view of USC more then anything. Espn is really killing college football. if it weren't for Kirk Herbstreit deep throating USC every chance he got I would pull for them. But because everyone of the talking heads thinks USC is god's gift to football I have to go with NU. Normally I would root for the team playing our Big 12 north foes, but I just can't do it for USC. Plus Troy Polamalu is a bitch.

Agreed on Herbstreit and the fascination he and ESPN have with USC...did you see his head almost explode when the other guys pointed out that the best two teams in college football history are the 1971 Huskers and 1995 Huskers, and not any of the USC teams? I thought he was going to cry. :'( What a homo.
-
There is a chance (albeit a small one) NU wins this game. It would take a near perfect game from the OL and secondary for us to have a chance. Like fatty said, NU at home is vastly different than on the road, though we did throw it 41 times vs Wake. USC's D is what will win them a lot of games this year, cause their offense isn't near as spectacular as Herbstreit wants everyone to believe. Special teams could decide this one, and our FR kicker has one hell of a leg, so I like our chances in a close one... 27-24.

Wait... I thought the 2003 Sooners were the best team in college football history.
Actually, ESPN lists the 72 Trojan team as number 2, in between the 71 and 95 Huskers.

Where is BMWJayhawk to make his claim that NU will win and, because he believes the talent level between ku and NU is minimal, that the Hawks would also beat them in their "stadium".
PS - Polamalu is a bitch. Remember when LJ did this....

The 1995 Huskers and 1971 Huskers were the top two teams in college football history. Anyone with a brain realizes that, as each was the best team of its generation. In my view, the 1995 team was the best team in college football history, hands down. They played four teams that ended up in the Top 10 that year, and none of those games was even close. They pounded #2 Florida 62-24, in a game that wasn't even that close...notably that was the same Florida team that won the National Championship the following year.
But either the 1995 of 1971 versions of the Huskers would have pounded the 1972 USC team, which doesn't even belong in that conversation.

I've been way wrong on pretty much everything recently. :beerchug:

That list is bleh though, because any team today could beat the 1945 Army squad.
