I was at work watching a monitor thinking they were doing a replay of the plane crash and realizing it was the second plane crash live.

I got so that I hated to see people gathering around the monitors, because I was thinking something else bad like this was happening.

I found out later that a former co-worker's son died at the Pentagon and a Brother, from the Colorado State Chapter, died in the tower crash.  He was an intern there.

MSNBC is replaying the events of the day if you feel like being re-angered.

I was at school and going to our "mentors" when she told us about it, I still remember it but didn't know what the WTC buildings were at the time. Alright, I new of them but it didn't ring a bell when she told us that. I didn't think it was that big of a deal the way that she said it.

I was on the old KSUFans.com (I think) looking at the topics and trying to figure out what the &@#% "Pentagon burning" and "2nd plane flies into tower" meant in relation to EMAW.

At the corner of 39th St. and 2nd Ave., Kearney Nebraska, in my car thinking that the morning tralk show was playing a really bad prank.  Then got home in time to see the second plane crash, at which point my phone started ringing.

on 95th and renner. at a stop light.

got to work, told the boss. we all went to the TV room and watched it all day.

my gas light was on when i rolled in.

so of course, when i came out, the gast prices were over 5$.

they came out and looked at gauges, and those with more than half, they made leave.

the owners of the gas station were middle eastern. it was ugly.

I remember going out and buying a bunch of gas cans and fillling them (using money I didn't really have) because I heard the gas prices were going to skyrocket.  In Kearney though, they spiked a little but not too bad.  (if I remember right)

I was on the way to Omaha on business and had been listening to CD's all morning. When I ejected a disc I heard 810 sports covering something other than sports. I knew something big had happened at that point. When I left Omaha that afternoon I'd heard that all flights had been grounded and that Bush was landing somewhere in Nebraska. I'm pretty sure I saw his plane.
I was coaching the KSU women's club soccer team at the time and called one of my captains. We were supposed to play Nebraska that evening and needless to say, the game was canceled.
When I returned home, my fiancee at the time was in hysterics. I had my cell phone off most of the day and in the chaos of the day I hadn't spoken to her. It was the beginning of the end of that relationship.

Hmm.  A tiny glimpse of a dark, depressed KT.

9/11 was a pretty normal day for me, overall.  I remember my roomate watching TV and saying "Did you see this?" and I replied with "No." and went about my normal daily routine, because he was kind of annoying and it was early for me.  After checking my email, I watched TV for about 15 minutes, then went to class like every day.  I even took a test that night.  I got over everything pretty quickly.

In Oregon managing an RV resort, just fiddling about when our golf course super comes in and tells me that we are under a terrrorist attack and to turn on the tube.  It was between the two tower hits and saw the second live.  Couldn't believe it was happening, or allowed to happen I guess is more accurate.  I was certain that they would also learn that there had been chemical or biological weapons mixed in with the carnage.  Thanks goodness there was not, or that they burnt up.

The superintendant had a gleam in his eye as if he were enjoying the whole scene, man I wanted to punch him out.   :curse:

Hmm.  A tiny glimpse of a dark, depressed KT.
That day was more strange and frustrating than depressing. Her temporary fits were never to the scale of that one. You'd have thought I worked in New York or something.
The depressing part was when she informed me she was moving and broke it off on my birthday. I hadn't spoken to her since that day until about a month ago when I ran into her in Westport.
What was more depressing than that was the 5 year string of bad birthdays I had including that one. 22-friend OD'd and died. 23- 200$ speeding ticket. 24- see above. 25-Uncle passed away.  26- Got fired. I damn near turned into a recluse on birthdays for the following three years.

Damn!  So are you a believer in the Law of Momentum or the Law of Averages?  If you are an Averages person, I'd be buying lotto tickets on the next few birthdays.  If you are a Big Mo guy.... hide.... underground.... deep!

Damn, I've been busy; havent' checked this forum in a while.

If anyone still cares;

I was a Junior at KSU; living in Chase apt's; I had a test in Earth and Action that morning... Got up early to cram for the test as I never went to class, finished the test and decided to drive over the Burger King in Aggieville, after pulling out of the drive through with my biscuit sandwich, tator tots, and an OJ I heard on the radio that a plane flew into the World Trade center... I thought to myself, "what a dumb ass, how could you not see the &@#%ing building in front of you?"  I then decided to go home realizing along the way that I had yet to pick up my parking permit for Chase Manhattan Apt's; so I stopped in the main office and there was no one at the front counter.  I cautiously said hello? only to get a reply from someone in the back room saying "we're back here!"   I walked back to see 4 or 5 people glued to the TV not even looking back to see who I was.  I asked, "What's Going on?"   only to receive the news again that a plane had flown into the WTC.  Not realizing the seriousness of the issue I replied:  "Yeah, I heard that... What a dumb ass."  as they all slowly turned their heads with a look of shock and dis-belief as the collectively assured me that this was no accident.   Just as the realization of the situation hit me, the camera panned out to show another Plane coming into the picture... I asked, "Is this a replay?"  just as the second plane hit.  The horror simultaniously struck us as I realized that we were under attack.

I ran home to watch TV for the next 6 hours only pausing to cook myself some lunch;  I then had to go to work at Blockbuster where I spent the next 6 hours of the busiest and most awkward work day I've ever experienced.  I remember that cars were lined up trying to get gas at god knows where with the line so long that it was blocking our entrance.  People were parking in the  Car wash parking lot across the street and walking over to rent any movie that would help them avoid the constant stream of anxiety and depression broadcast on every channel.   I believe that every Adam Sandler movie we owned was rented out that day.

Truly a day I'll never forget.   Funny, six years later and recounting that day still makes me feel anxious, patriotic, and hateful to anyone that wishes harm on US Citizens at the same time.  I'd like to say that day changed my life... but it only helped me to form opinions of how ugly the world is... including people residing here in America.  That day was the start of a my bitterness to the world.

I had just gotten out of International Ag Trade in Willard Hall with Andy Barkley, in which we were reading Tom Friedman's Lexus and the Olive Tree.  Those of you who are familiar with the book will realize how apropos it was.   I headed toward Weber for a leadership meeting of a campus ministry group in which I was involved.  I noticed that everyone seemed to be on their cell phones, but I didn't think anything else of it.

When I got to my meeting, my cohorts told me that a plane had flown into the WTC.  I thought they must mean in a Cory Lidle-type manner...small plane accident type thing.  They told me it was a jet liner and our advisor arrived, and it became apparent something was going on.  Since our regular meetings were scheduled for that night, the other campus ministries asked if we'd head up a service, which is how I came to help lead the little event out in front of the Union that evening.

After our meeting I headed to American Foreign Policy (yeah, I picked all the right classes that semester).  Jeff Pickering told us to go home and watch TV, because we'd learn a lot more by doing that than by sitting in class.

When I went to Commodity Futures Trading that afternoon, the professor was in tears and cancelled class.  I guess he knew some folks at the WTC.

I was sleeping.  I get a call on my cell a few minutes before 8am.  I'm thinking for the love of god.  Why is someone calling me this early.  I let it ring, four times, voicemail...time for sleep again.  A second later my phone rings again, four times, voicemail..."&@#%ing get a clue, I'm not getting out of bed," I think to myself.  It rings a third time, right after the second.  I get out of bed pretty pissed off.  I think to myself, this better be a damned emergency because I didn't have to be to work until 1030 today.

It's a friend of mine, he starts saying "hey there was a plane that hit one of the WTC towers, turn on the tv and check it out."  I respond, "did you seriously just wake me up for a plane hitting a tower?"  He retorts, "Well, I thought you might want to know.."  He actually just wanted an update on what was happening because he was in bfe laying cable in the ground with no tv.  I flip it on, they are showing the live footage of the first one and let him know what it looked like.  Then I told him I'd call back if anything changed and I hang up.  A few minutes later is when the second one hit and then I was glued to the tv from there.

I went in to work at 1030 as scheduled and I was telling everyone there what the latest was...since I worked in a small cafeteria inside a factory at the time.  It was a desolate day and no one was talking.  One of the strangest days of my life and more than once I thought, "so this is the beginning of the end of civilization."

And unfortunately can't be eliminated yet, especially if we have to get frisky with Iran. :-X

soph. year at ksu, stayed at the dorms with my gf, had a parking ticket, was late to class, when I got to class there was only murmurs of some kind of bomb in NY.  Didn't think much of it.  got to my micro class and our teacher said the world trade center was gone.  Ass didn't cancel class or anything and I didn't know what he meant by that.  got a ride to a friend's house and watched all the replays in utter rage and disbelief.

On the corner of 11th and Bluemont, slept in because I only had a late class that day.  Got a phone call from my sister who was working down at the Manhattan Mercury, called and said that "the pentagon just got bombed, we're at war".

I got up and turned on the TV.  My roomates came walking in and we watched all day long in silence.

Bluemont filled up with cars as everyone was stopping by that gas station by Rickles to top up their SUVs and trucks.  Gas hit like $5/gal that day, alot of gas station owners got in big trouble.

It didn't take long before every student in Manhattan had a US flag hanging from their balcony.
