5 times now and seeing it live. I think we all need to meet in a parking lot to march in formation.
we could use the chant
A fake bird
with a yellow bill
(repeat)
Landed on my window sill
(repeat)
I lured it in with a piece of bread
(repeat)
Then I smashed its F()C#!ng head
(repeat)
God that sends chills up my spine everytime I see that video
-
Where can you watch the vid?
-
Flashbacks to D&C competitions..
And Basic Training..
And OCS..
Left .. yo left.. yo left right left..
-
I thought it was kind of quirky.

My boss was making fun of the entrance today at work. I told him I thought it was cool and it gave me goosebumbs but then again I am patriotic. He just dropped it. I don't know about the cadence leading up to the screen going up, but when the team was marching it just got me.

I like them running onto the field. If I was a player I'd be more pumped.

you should call ian a pussy for wearing that patch too
-
The beginning was weird because you could only here screaming over the sound system. Than the players started to echo him, and it sounded a little bit better.

Hearing the recitation of a cadence doesn't give a patriot goosebumps, it gives a militarist goosebumps. It made me think of the A&M "Corps" and their merry band of 4 yr toy soldiers. Cadences, military drills and camo are for real soldiers that make real sacrifices not for football games and all the "football is war" rhetoric that undermines the true meaning of words.

If J-Free, Watts or anyone else had ripped up an ankle playing around with night goggles and paintball guns over at Riley, people wouldn't have thought the whole thing was so cute.

I disagree. I feel it was a nice tribute. I don't think football is war, it is a game. Also, I am not a militarist, I am a patriot. I know what war is and I know what military is about, I also know there are a whole hell of a lot of things bigger than football.

Patriotism has nothing to do with getting goosebumps when hearing/seeing football players marching in step. It has nothing to do with getting goosebumps when hearing a military do it. Football is not war, as football is wonderful, war is absolutely horrible. Patriotism is not about feeling goosebumps when thinking about football or war. Your quote sounds as if you're saying that part of being a patriot is getting goosebumps over marching in step.

Thank you for your substantive response MJ!
Your constructive criticism has been taken under advisement and will be incorporated into my future posts.

When did I say war wasn't horrible? I never alluded to that. In fact, I never said me feeling the way I did was patriotic. I said I am patriotic.

As an explanation to your goosebumps and your bosses lack of them/not thinking it's cool you said "but then again I am a patriot. That's just kind of absurd, IMO. Sorry I think I have a very different view of patriotism than you. If not, my mistake.
Why offer that as an explanation for why you had/he lacked if you didn't mean what I said?
-
Ok, I was quoting myself. I told him I was patriotic. Whether or not me feeling that way is in your eyes (or anyone else's for that matter) patriotic doesn't really matter. I liked the tribute we paid on Ft. Riley day, to the troops at the game by marching out of the tunnel to cadence. I am patriotic, that is probably why I thought it was cool. I hope this helps everyone understand but I am sure it probably won't.

Ron Prince had this to say:
Closing statement...
“Where I’ve been the last couple of years, I wanted to make a comment here, not for any political reason, but just make a comment. There’s times in your life when you remember exactly where you are when you hear things and experience things, and tomorrow is going to be one of those days. On September 11, 2001, I can remember where I was sitting in my office and exactly what I was doing, getting ready to play Penn State, and we had that national tragedy. For those of us that live on the eastern seaboard, particularly as close to Washington, D.C., where we were, and so many of us having either family members or married into families from New York, we’ll never forget that. That will never be the same. To hear those sirens sitting in our office with those people coming from Washington, D.C., to Charlottesville, to the university hospital is something I’ll never forget. When it occurred, most of us who were there and experienced it said we would never again try to use phrases like ‘going to war’ and those kind of things in our sports analogies. We just thought that was completely inappropriate ever again if possible. I’m not trying to make any kind of political statement in all of the hustle and bustle and everything surrounding the game and everything else. I just think that it’s appropriate for all of us to remember that this is a game. We have tremendous obligations to go out and play well, do the right thing and be good people. But based on the experience I had six years ago, I thought it would be important for me to try to remind all of us, particularly those of us who lived it and were close to it or had family members close to it.
-
FWIW, I love the patriotism that Coach Prince incorporates into our program... I liked the cadence and stuff with the entrance, it was just executed horribly.
-
I'd rather have the canon back. Let the Black Lions fire that off.

The cannon would be great. My father's business used to sponsor the cannon but they usually gave credit to the other repair shop with a similar name. :-[

You are truly a dumbass kk. this wasn't intended to foster the "football is war" belief, it was to honor the soldiers (notice the black lions flag they had). it was fort riley day and i don't know if you noticed or not, they had numerous videos on the jumbotron THANKING the soldiers. get your head our of your ass.

Ever been to war, O-townhusker?
Nope, I haven't. But I've talked to enough people with first hand experience, and read/studied enough about the subject to be able to say that war is in fact a horrific and horrible experience. That's not saying it's not necessary sometimes, but that it's not something a patriot should get goosebumps over. War nostalgia is sick.
I do support honoring our troops though. Completely. I haven't spoken out against this whole entrance that happened. Though I do believe there are better ways to honor than emulation.

In some situations opinions have to be earned. This would be one of those situations. The people you talk to about their horrific experiences are full of crap. If their stories were true, they wouldn't talk about them. Do me a favor, sign on the line, raise your right hand, go out and EARN your opinion, and then tell us how that video makes you feel.

My god. You don't have to go to war to be able to say it's horrible, just like you don't have to be raped to say it's horrible, or anything else. Jesus christ man I haven't said anything against the video other than at the very end I said I think there's better ways to honor than that.
War is hell. To say otherwise, or to say that me saying that has no meaning, is just plain STUPID.

Quite a reaction there, perhaps if your depth of your ideas matched the depth of your anger you'd have something to add.
I intended no comment on the intentions of those who organized the whole thing and I don't think "Ft. Riley Day" is a bad idea I just saw it for something quite different than what Cat Doctor did. Not the whole day, just the cadence and the specific instances where the football team took on the persona of a military unit. It reminded me of A&M's "corps." Read about them and their "commitment" to this country and you might discover why it left a sour taste in my mouth.

Besides your poor attitude and claiming to know something you couldn't possibly know, you illustrate a clear disdain for our Constitution.
If opinions about war "have to be earned" then why on Earth would our founding fathers have placed civilians in command of our armed forces at every turn? Why is citizenship not contingent upon military service?
I'm sure you misspoke in the heat of the moment, I'll allow you to collect your thoughts and clarify for the benefit of all.
