Title: A Look at San Jose State
Post by: catsfan20012002 on September 03, 2007, 08:06:09 PM
The Spartans are 0-1 with a 45-3 loss at Arizona State last week. The Spartans return 13 starters off of a 9-4 bowl team that is predicted to finish 5th in the WAC behind a Fresno State team that the Cats will see later in the season.

QB Adam Tafralis only completed 5 passes for 39 yards in the loss but can be an efficient passer. He set a school record by completing 65.6% of his passes last season. His best game last season was at Washington when he threw for 323 yards with 3 TD's and 0 INT's in a 35-29 loss. He is a quarterback who is capable of doing some things if we don't fully prepare for him. They also played Sean Flynn and Jordan LaSecla in the ASU loss.

Their running game is the team strength. RB Cameron Island lead the team with 13 yards on two carries last week but they also have James T. Callier and Yonus Davis. Davis had 1,007 yards (6.2 yards/carry) rushing last season and Callier had 199 yards (4.1 yards/carry) rushing last season.

They'll run behind an experienced offensive line of LT Jibri Sharp, LG Ronnie Castillo, C Justin Paysinger, RG John Booker and RT Bradis McGriff.

Their top receiver is WR David Richmond. Richmond is averaging 6.4 yards/catch and had a reception for 14 yards vs. ASU. They've also got WR's Jalal Beauchman and Michael Hooper as well as TE Jeff Clark. They are unexperienced, however, since SJSU must replace 18 touchdown receptions and 78% of their catches from a year ago.

Their defense improved last season. They only gave up 20.8 points/game after giving up 32 points/game in 2005. It's a veteran group lead by CB Dwight Lowery who had 9 INT's last season which was tied for best in the nation.

We need to physically destroy this team.

Before I read your post I knew just about nothing of San Jose State.  After reading your bio on SJS, it sounds like they have a fair amount of experience at several positions.

However, after seeing what ASU did to them, if we don't beat these guys by atleast 3 TDs, I will be severely disappointed.  Our defense should be able to keep them out of the endzone too.  If they score anything over 7 points, again I will be disappointed.

Is Arizona State worth a damn this year?

This sets up perfectly, thanks their piss-poor performance this week, if we don't KILL them = loss in the minds of media and boneheaded fans.

Serious question though about Ariz. State though.  Didn't think they were supposed to have much.

I just can't see us not being way up for this game.  These guys are going to want to taste a win so bad after letting Auburn off the hook, believe SJS will feel the brunt of hit.

ASU, with Dennis Erickson, will be decent again.  People have been saying to look out for ASU because Erickson has won at every college he has been coach.

ASU and Colorado play this weekend, so that should be an interesting game.

1. I think Arizona State is a good team this year...and will prolly challenge USC for the conference title if not share it.

2. I think we'll have a slow start and won't destroy this team as bad as some want us too. We'll get the win but it might be ugly at times.

LOL @ your entire analysis. Their running game is a strength  but their top rusher only rushed for thirteen yards? Their best wide receiver had one reception? Are you kidding me? What site did you rip this analysis off from? Lastly, do you think anyone cares as to what your opinion is on this? All you do is repeat what every pundit says week in and week out. If I wanted to hear/read the same mindless drivel over and over again then all I would do is pick up the Kansas City Star's sports page.

If we destroy SJSU, will this = ku win over CMU?

Both had 4 losses last year all to bowl teams. Kinda weird, but I'd lean toward SJSU being a little tougher. Simply on the fact they've got a returning coaching staff, and a game under their belt, unlike CMU. Doubt the squawks would look at it this way though.

I said it was a strength. I never said it was a great strength but it's a strength. It's what they like to try to do. That's what strength means. Seriously.....If you're going to post on a sports message board is it too much to ask that you learn sports?

As a ku alum, I have to say the Spartans are a better team than the Chippendales.  Not sure us alums count as squawks tho.

As long as you don't pull for 'em I'll let you slide.   ;)

For real, though, I agree. I think this is a tougher game than cmu. SJSU has a road game against a solid opponent under their belt, we played a hell of a tough game the other night and might be a tad banged up, and could be a little distracted for the home opener. So the way I see it if we win 45-7, then great we're supposed to. I'm not going to crap my pants thinking we're going to win the Big 12 because we drilled a lesser opponent like ku fans do. Or if it's close and we pull it out 24-17 or something I'm not going to think it's the end of the world for us, like ku fans will tell us, because SJSU is a good team.

LOL @ you being retarded. You can't claim that their running game is a strength this year if their leading rush had thirteen yards.

If I jump off a cliff 3 times (because flying is what I like to TRY to do) and break both legs and my neck, is flying considered one of my strengths?

They lost both RB Yonus Davis and DT Adonis Davis to injury last week. At RB we're going to see converted WR Jacob French and S Dominique Hunsucker.

We need to show the squawks what a good win really is.  I see no reason not to pad the stats tommorrow.
