Iowa State went up 14-9 only to see Golden Flashes score two unanswered TD's.

23-14 Kent.

This just makes me cry a little on the inside.  Seriously I don't care who is in the conference if you want to have any respect from the top to the bottom you have to beat up on crappy teams.  I for one submit my vote for kicking ISU out of the big 12.  It makes us all look bad and honestly if we ever have a good team that could win the national championship teams like ISU drag everybody down.

The Big 12 North struggling badly time and again with the South consistently spending their way into top spots only to falter is the best hope for any sort of NCAA mandated sports budget equalizing between teams and conferences.

But then I'm probably having too much faith in the NCAA getting something right.

ISU fan before 2nd half

Quote
Gene Chizik's confidence is contagious. He sounds as if he's been here before. For his first game, he's down 9-7 to a decent team with an unpredictable offense and he makes no excuses. That's why he's our head coach. I can't help but be excited about the second half after he gets in that locker room and rattles some cages. I expect a very different second half.

Actually, what makes the B12N look terrible are the top teams (or lackthereof) not the bottom teams.  The B12N has always had a crappy team or two, just as the South has.

That's a decent point. I'd like to see the conference be pretty solid top to bottom though, with even the weakest teams being able to handle teams like Kent State pretty easily. Iowa State is likely the worst team in the Big 12 North, but losing to a team like Kent State says loads about the job Chizek has ahead of him. Iowa State is a coach's graveyard.

That's what they told Bill Snyder about KSU.

Snyder was fortuante to coach in a different day and age of college football. The pinnacle of his success came 10-15 years after his arrival when Osborne retired and Nebraska and Oklahoma went through major program transition. I don't think you'd find many people that would say the Big 8 was tougher than the Big 12 is. College football has also turned into a playground of unrealistic expectations and short term coaching tenures. Chizik won't have 10 years to turn ISU around. The problem I see is that ISU fans are a little like KSU fans-they think they're a 9-10 win a year team but they're not.

What happened to the new helmets?

Sad ISU is going to outdraw us for their opener.  (not even close)

playground of unrealistic expectations

That sums up Nebraska fairly accurately

Are you saying it took Bill Snyder 10 years to turn the program around?

Yeah-how long did it take him to win a North title and a Big 12 championship?

I seriously doubt Snyder would have near the success today if he took a bottom of the barrell program at Kansas State and tried to turn it around in the Big 12. When he got in, nobody else was recruiting the JUCO players he had in his backyard. He spent the first 7 years in the Big 8 where Oklahoma fell off the wagon in 1991. His teams were hardly ever competitive against Osborne's teams. TO just smoked Snyder every time they ever matched up.

LOL at the possibility that Bill Snyder would ever lose if he ran for Governor.

second season of big 12 he had the north.... were you expecting something more?
Championship took longer than it should have, but between 96 and 2003 the big 12 saw 3 seperate teams in the NC game.

Dude, TO got smoked by Switzer; it wasn't until Switzer left that TO and NU ever amounted to anything special.  It happens; good coaches take advantage of it.  And a lot of teams were hardly ever competitve and/or beat Osbornes' teams in the mid-90's.

Ah, by Bill Snyder's 2nd season, NU needed to knock away a pass in the endzone to beat KSU in Lincoln, in 1993, Chad May lit up NU for a Big 8 passing record and NU needed a stupid play call by KSU on NU's goal line, and a late hit call to beat KSU in Lincoln.   Dr.  Tom knew he had little time left, so he turned up the steroid tap, and started bringing in the thugs with speed, and he finally got that long sought after National Title after nearly 25 years on the job and after inheriting a program just two years off of a National Title.

When Doctor Tommy took over, Barry Switzer treated him like the gimp in the basement, and as I said, Dr. Tommy took over a very established, recent National Title winner.   Bill Snyder took over the worst program in college football.

God I love Cornhole revisionism.

Oh, and it's not like CU sucked when Snyder took over at KSU, and by Snyder's 4th season, KSU tied CU in Manhattan, and took them to the wire the following year in Boulder.
