Title: There may yet be hope for you guys
Post by: Maxell on August 24, 2007, 07:50:29 PM
just further proof that you can find an occasional "diamond in the rough." The best freshman on Nebraska's team is a three star CB from Cedar Hills in Dallas who was nearly given 2 stars by Rivals and only made 2nd team all Dallas-metro. Of course, finding a whole team of Anthony Blue type players is nearly impossible. I see some hope that you'll find a good player here and there! Go Prince!

Duh, that's why RP signs 30+ 2 and 3 stars, his odds go way up.

Ron Prince is not an "occasional" guy.

there is hope and extremely happy you mentioned it.

Kendrick Matthews vs. Anthony Blue at same combine by scout.

Matthews #'s
Height:  5-10
Weight:  173
40-Yard Dash:  4.59
Short Shuttle:  4.37
Vertical Jump:  36.0"
3-Cone:  7.41
Broad Jump:  9-7

Blue's #'s
Height:  5-9
Weight:  161
40-Yard Dash:  4.56
Short Shuttle:  4.93
Vertical Jump:  32.0"
3-Cone:  7.57
Broad Jump:  9-0

our poor two star spanking corn all over the combine.  I'm sure happy Matthews pulled a rabbit out of his hat and qualified....Lollers over his being a two star.  Enjoy A. Blue and LOL he's your best freshman.

LOL @ Kendrick Matthews being in the same sentence as Anthony Blue. The story as I'm told is that the NU coaching staff was very hesitant about even offering Blue when they first started recruiting him. He was only about 165 lbs when they first were in contact. Rivals also wanted to give him just two stars but they went with three. When the kid showed up on campus this summer he had really grown and was 180 and really bulked up. I'm told he's the best freshman CB at Nebraska since Ralph Brown. Some of that is due to the high school coaching he received at Cedar Hill and some is just because he picks up everything so fast and is constantly in the film room. Not only is he going to be the starting nickel (beating out 4 star JUCO Armando Murrillo who was here this spring), he may make a run at one of the starting corners.

I don't really care what Matthews did in HS or what Blue did in HS. I can tell you right now that Anthony Blue looks like a future AA. You'll be eating another turd burger real shortly Hatter. LOL @ Matthews.

Are you freakin kiddin me? Can you be more delusional?  Your already claiming this kid could be AA after 3-4 weeks?  Yet can just completely ignore the possibility of Matthews being good?  Are you high or just retarded....no wait, I know, you're a cornphuker

If Matthews was tearing it up in camp and displaying the abilities that Blue has, you would have heard about it. Blue looks like he's played 2-3 years of college football already. To quote Armando Murillo yesterday "That kid can f-ing play."

 :loly:

First of all KSU practices and progress reports are not open to the public.

Secondly, KSU has very experienced and deep group of corners.

Thanks from the quote by Murillo, I'll stick it in my back pocket and I'll forget about it and wash it w/ me shorts.

The tardness never ends.  I remember when Grixby was "special" because he was getting on the field early or whatever and  at him now.

Reminds me of when Nubb was bringing in that one corner they landed over Ohio State, Groce.  We had a more lightly recruited kid in Jerametrious Butler.  Butler was and still is the better player.

Kendrick Matthews mutha f*&#er!!

Groce turned out to be a good player but I agree Butler was better and has had more success in the pros.   The Blue kid might end up being a player but if I were an NU fan I'd take it as a bad sign he's beating out their alleged jc savior stud.  The secondary is going to be a problem for them again this season and they won't have the d-line to bail them out this year.

Have not heard anything one way or another on Matthews but we go 5 deep with experience at corner so it's not likely a young guy is going to crack the rotation this year.  Everyone of our top 5 corners (Moore, Cheatam, Mckinney, Baldwin, Garvin) is better then Grixby and last I checked he's still starting for NU.

Jones showed last year that he's terrible and waaaay overrated, Bowman's knees are about as good as an 80 year old man's, and Grixby...no need to discuss just throw up an LOL.

Blue hasn't beaten out any JUCO CB at NU.  He's behind Bowman, Jones and Murillo.

For all you pansies who foam at the mouth over pictures and annoint star status based on the photographs, you'd think you'd be ready to give Blue King status and have Matthews be his servant.  Has Matthews added an ounce of muscle since the camp following his junior season?

Oh, and nothing I've heard says Blue has been NU's most impressive freshman.  He's in that top group, but I've heard nothing that suggests he's distanced himself from players like Witt, Prince, Lawrence and Stafford.  All, and others, have stood out to the veteran players.

bwahahaha.  Matthews outweighs baby blue and and no fat whatsoever.  It looks to me like Blue went and got a pump on shortly before coming out to see the fans.  Matthews just got done practicing.  Plus the photos by huskerpump have shaded stuff to make things look more defined.  Hell, even slauson looks ripped in a few of their photos and realistically he does photo shoots for pillsbury.

Matthews = bigger and more explosive per combine numbers at same combine.  LOL at his vertical being 4" higher and broad jump 7" further.  LOL at baby blue.

Huskertard-you obviously don't get your practice reports from anyone who has the opportunity to watch. I do. Andre Jones even needs to watch his starting spot. As for Hatter, well it should be hilarious after the season gets underway, to see him spin his way out of every falsity he dreams up about Nebraska and how Kansas State really isn't a national championship type of team.

I'd love to place a nice, little wager on Blue starting over Jones.  It's simply not going to happen.

Blue has been impressive.  His physicality is drawing praise from the verterans.  Even in half pads, he's being physical and extremely aggressive, perhaps too aggressive at times.

Anyways, a wager, I'm down for it.

Blue is as advanced technically as any freshman CB since Ralph Brown. He is way ahead of where Andre Jones was at this time last year because he's been coached so well and spends more time studying film than maybe any other player on the team right now. Plus he's an athletic freak. Elmaissan has coached 26 years and he rarely, if ever, has put a true freshman on the field. For Blue to even be considered to be the starting nickle back with the type of talent we have is more than amazing. And yes, from all I hear he's ahead of Murrillo right now. And as the season goes on, Andre Jones needs to be really careful otherwise it might be him that's playing the nickel position.

Yep and so did Adam Barmann. With only one healthy cornerback on the roster (Grixby was beat up until late in the year), Nebraska could not afford to do the type of blitzing they did in 2005. They played a passive coverage scheme in the secondary and rarely blitzed. With the return of Zac Bowman (and contrary to Hatter's ridiculous know nothing claims, he's looking amazing right now) and the additions of Armando Murrillo, Anthony Blue, Prince Amukamara and Anthony West (injured in 2006), Nebraska has 6 great options just at corner alone. Plus, the safety play is going to be much better this year with Larry the Assassin Asante and Ricky Thenarse (pictured below). I'm sure Freeman is looking forward to November in Lincoln.

By the way, what was the score last year? 21-3 I think. Jeez not looking good for you guys for the future. You went from winning by 24 in 2004, to losing by 2 in 2005, to losing by 18 in 2006. Definitely a disturbing trend if you're a fan of the purple pussies.

at times I can't help but think Maxell is a sock and the most genius of socks.  Seriously..in just the past few days he has warned Nebraska will have, without a doubt, the top DL in the nation...and now NU has "6 great options" at corner when last year none of the individuals returning could cover a thing.

fatty, run the Jordy youtube again so we can show him Jordy running 10 yards behind a THEN healthy Bowman and that was 2nd to last game of the season...allegedly when overrated Bowman was playing well.

Amazing.  You have a program that is in utter chaos, you can't even field a credible offensive line and have no depth because half your OLmen have quit, your nosetackle just quit -- the KEY cog of any 3-4 defense, Freeman stinks it up his last couple games of the season, stinks it up in the spring, stinks it up again your last scrimmage, Patton hanging on to the team by a thread, 49% of Princes recruits are two-stars (compared with 29% the last three years of Snyder), get snuffed 21-3 at your own place by Nebraska for the first home loss in ten years...

... and you think you are going beat Nebraska in Lincoln?  You can't be serious.  Are you really so blind to what's going on there?  If KSU can stay within three touchdowns, you'll be doing great.

(Don't) hate to break it to you but the Nebraska stomping of KSU is only just beginning.  Nebraska is returning to the top, KSU is reverting to its historic tradition among the worst teams not only of the conference but in the country (unless things change).  But I'm thrilled you're so excited about a coach who specializes in recruiting two-star players, alienating his assistant coaches (five gone from last year and they weren't even publicly humiliated running steps) while at the same time forbidding them to give interviews (at least last season), and disrespecting his players.  Give him a 10-year extension.  Every Husker fan would stand and applaud.

QFT. Nebraska fans might actually offer to pick up Prince's salary...maybe the cost savings would allow you guys to finally install indoor plumbing.

anthony blue is a great story.  I don't know if he will start, I doubt it.  The guy that said that blue was the most technically sound true frosh since ralph brown is a poster named frontrunner.  frontrunner would know of what he speaks.  he was one of the great husker rb's in the 90's and has stayed very close to the program even after he left.  His name is damon benning.   Mr Benning is also not a sunshine pumper, very critical and it's very rare to ehar him gush about these players like that.  Also, his position coach, elmassion has said similair things.  Phil said he is the best true frosh he has ever coached and that is saying alot for a guy that has been coaching as long as he has.  He is also a grumpy, old school type that doesn't spew bs like some other guys do.   We have excellent depth and talent in the secondary.  I find it funny that the same people that badmouth grix are the same guys that are saying the ksu player is better than blue based on combine numbers.  Well, if it's combine numbers you want probaly not one cb on the ksu roster can beat out grixby, his combine numbers are off the charts, including a 40 inch vertical jump.

Is he our best true frosh, I don't know.   I am to busy laughing at the technologically retarded ksu fans that think we have a magic camera that makes our players look stronger.  It aint magic, it's called hard work and dedication in the weight room and a world class strength coach, neither of which ksu has.

I also don't care how stacked ksu is at cb, stack them 5 high stack then 6 deep.  All you do when you stack sh*t on sh*t is have bigger stacks of crap.  problem with ksu though will be it's front 7, a bigger collection of pus*ies you won't find.

It's funny when NU fan quotes other stupid NU fans.

Can't wait for the real meltdown of meltdowns when Freeman destroys NU.

When "Freeman" destroys NU?  I see you've bought into the Power of One spin.

So let's see how The One has fared recently.

Against the 117th ranked pass defense in the country -- Kansas -- The One had three fumbles and three interceptions.

Against Rutgers The One was 10-21 for 129 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns.

In your Spring Game, The One was 9 for 22 for a grand total of 44 yards with no touchdowns.  Oh, and two interceptions.  Did I mention two rushes for -13 yards?

Say, how did The One do his last scrimmage?  Did someone say ZERO completions?

The One might not even be your starting quarterback by the time you face Nebraska.  He'll be The One up on the stands doing the steps with the assistant coaches.

His Texas stats weren't gleaming but he got the job done. That opening drive he layed on the Horns was best described as a methodical mind &@#%.
