disappointing
-
04 really stung the most as I just started a new job and everyone I worked with was a ku fan and took great delight in watching me suffer... I didn't know everyone that well, so telling them to &@#% off wasn't taken lightly.
-
2001, no question.
-
I voted for 2001, but the way 1998 ended is the most disappointing thing that's ever happened in my entire life.
-
04 for sure.
-
04- we had high expectations coming off a big 12 championship and not even making it to a bowl game disappointed me the most
-
For the ones you listed, I'd rank them as such:
1 - '04
2 - '01
3 - '05
excluding '98, the year I was probably the most disappointed was 2002....7 freaking points. Although now, I'd give anything to have that kind of "disappointment".
-
What about 1987? Winless season and a loss to Austin Peay State. The fans would have been on cloud nine to have a 6-6, 4-7, or 5-6 season back in those days.
-
1992 and really 1982 as well.
-
2005 was like spit in the face after getting kicked in the nuts (2004).
And if we include the Fiesta Bowl (1/2/04), 2004 doubly sucked.
-
Anyone with half a brain saw the writing on the wall in 2004. I predicted a loss to Fresno, and none of the losses really surprised me.
2001 was like a brick in the face. That was a pretty salty team that just gave games away.

Before the season started, did you really think that the o-line and DM was going to be that bad? Combo that with the defense falling off the face of the map. If so, major Nostradamus props.

That season was much closer to my expectations than 2001. That's all I'm saying.

1904 was a crapty year.

That doesn't stop it from being disappointing, numbnuts.
-
04. Sitting at home during bowl season absolutely sucked.
-
End of 1998- agonizing pain
2001- disappointing
2004- frustrating
The loss to ku in Lawrence in 04 made me realize
that we took our past "Snyder success" for granted....
I knew then we were about to turn to a different chapter.

In 01 i figured that breaking in a new qb in the big 12 wouldn't be a walk in the park, esp having to play NU in lincoln, and OU in Norman and Tech away. Colorado was the only real suprise suckage that year.

Completely. Even the bowl game was pathetic. Syracuse had yet to master the forward pass and we still lost.
I don't know how anyone could vote for anything but '01.
-
Did we still have Ron Hudson in '01? I remember Kentucky trying to run the same qb run plays with Lorenzen (lols) after he was here.

2001 gets props for getting to a bowl (with a brutal schedule) and holding MU and ku to w/o a TD for what seemed to be the 15th consecutive year. However, they were way more talented than 6-6, and losing 4 straight big 12 games when you had gone 34-6 the past 40 was just plain weird.
2004 gets my vote because of how easy the schedule was, and going 4-7 is just awful no matter the season. Seriously..4-7. They also just blew a bunch of games with terrible special teams, and that defense was depressing. the team was also coming off a conference title, so there must have been more talent.
2005 was pretty excusable. extremely young team.

2001:
One of the 10 toughest schedules
Top 5 rushing offense
Top 3 total defense
Win at USC
Destroy ku
Go to bowl game
2004:
Middle of the road schedule
#25 rushing offense
#43 total defense
Destroy NU
Lose to ku, breaking the streak
Blow bowl hopes by giving up 3 TDs in the final 3:30 to ISU
Oh yeah, and 2004 was the year we had to weep as Sproles didn't get the send off he deserved.

I suppose I'm making a semantical argument here, but I'd say a season where we had the statistics you mentioned in '01 with the better talent we had than '04 I don't see how '04 is more disappointing. Beating USC wasn't the achievement it was even the next year when we beat them in Manhattan (they were that much better the next year), beating ku wasn't any achievement then, and going to a bowl isn't saying much when you get dominated by a passing game-challenged Syracuse team.
Like Rusty said, after the Marshall game in '03 and the diminishing returns we were getting on talent we recruited, fans should have seen the writing on the wall before '04. Look at all the Senior talent that left after '03: R. Washington, Roberson, Terry, Buhl, R. Jordan, Hickman, Leckey, Lilja, Shull.
Hence, in my eyes, '01 wins. Very good talent, good statistics, marginal returns in the W column. How did we lose to CU? aTm? Cuse?

true, but it seemed like every year we'd lose a bunch, then just kick ass again.
Then..it just stopped. :crybaby: :crybaby:
-
There were good things in '01, not the least of which was hope after the season was over. Even the pessimistic could see that we still had the nucleus of a good team to take into 2002.
After 2004 there was no hope. You knew 2005 would suck.
-
yea, it was funny to see people writing us off before 2002. LOL.

Actually, it was the fourth toughest schedule in the nation that year. Nine out of 12 teams were bowl-bound if I remember correctly. Yet we still got labeled as scheduling cupcakes.

Easy, 2004 season. After the '03 season with a BCS bowl game & winning the Big 12 CCG, we finally started getting the respect needed. We were rebuilding major with Dylan coming in at QB and the defense losing lots of starters & experience. Preseason we were ranked #13. Way to high if you ask me, but we were finally getting the repect without even playing a game. That was the year, especially how bad the Big XII north was than, to show all of the outsiders that we deserved the respect. Actually, if we would've won at CU than come home and beat ISU, we would've won the north.
And not even mentioning that half the time it looked like that 2004 team didn't even care.

1998 - So close, but so far. Maybe the only time we will ever sniff anything that close.
-
I think that collectively from the Fiesta '04 until Snyder retired was horrible for me to watch. I knew when Beilema left, we were screwed with that worthless Bobby Elliott. To me, Snyders only glaring flaw that couldn't be overlooked was his devotion to the former players/coaches that he allowed to "hang around".
1998 big 12 ch was the blackest day I ever had in Manhattan, KS... there I was sitting there watching Lamar Chapman laying face-down on the turf, aTm nation go freaking NUTS, my phone ringing off the hook from the numerous calls that my friend from aTm was placing to my apartment and I felt like I was 5 yrs old again when my dad sat me down and explained that Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Heterosexual ku fans, and the Tooth Fairy didnt exist. (I already knew about the ku piece, but I acted suprised) I stepped out onto my porch for a ciggie and hear several dejected KSU fans cursing into the night - my buzz from earlier worn off, I went to bed and tried to imagine that game being a nightmare... and it was, but it has lasted almost 9 yrs. Time for some therapy.
