Rusty, are you into Blonde Redhead?
-
I've picked up some of their stuff on blogs...none of it really stuck, though.
Not like the Budos Band...

BTW...I liked Blonde Redhead more when I listened to it again!

Only kidding of course, I find most of the hoppery you've posted above average to decent.
I'll be selling my Jeep soon. Did you not have luck selling it on KSUFANS.COM?

Craigslist. I eventually got an offer...was too small, though. :frown:

I'm going to try craigslist and some ads in Denver, I think.

Maybe not jeep people, though.

kilgore pout...i got a new car.

Jeep people hate automatics. I need something that's more real estate friendly, hence an automatic= a must.

Quoting the crappy Longhorn sock guy?
What kind of car?
Also, when's the next jam session?

This is like Hey Mickey w/ the added bonus of indie street cred:

Probably why I like it.

I bet they're huge in Japan.

I'm liking the new Public Enemy single!

Yeah, I like this KANYE WEST song:

another daft punk sample stolen

You of all people should know sampling isn't stealing.

perhaps its not stolen. BUT, sampling it like busta did and so close together.... :banghead:
-
Kanye West doesn't care about George W Bush.
-
Holy sh*t, this is Lil Wayne?!?
http://www.fluxblog.net/lilwayne_ifeellikedying.mp3
-
I have a thing for one man bands...Scott H. Biram just happens to be one that kicks major ass:
http://covertcuriosity.biz/See_The_Light_Biram.mp3
-
Kanye West doesn't care about George W Bush.
Kanye West broke some old ladys femurs in half when he passed out at the wheel of a rental car and hit her head on. He later made a rap song about how bad his jaw hurt from the accident and how people should feel sorry for him and made millions of dollars. The old lady can't walk anymore. True story. But, Steve Dave doesn't care about George W. Bush either fwiw.

To be fair, it was a pretty good song.

rusty, i see you are avoiding the Duane Davis talk.
Is this perhaps because you don't know who he is?
Damn, I'm a better fan than you.

Yeah, I was a horrible fan when I was a senior in high school. I won't lie. I was better in elem/jr. high/college. In high school I was more concerned with finding someone to buy booze and chasing girls (unsuccessfully, of course).
I did attend sr. night that year, though (vs. Nebraska)
Excellent catch, fatty!
-
Well, I can unequivocally state this has been a good day.
-
Black Milk
do it, now.
also
Moka Only
that crap is hot.
-
black milk...YES!!!

This is funny:

Meh. I got like 60 new songs today and this is the best crap so far.
http://covertcuriosity.blogspot.com/2007/08/alaskan-dance-party.html
-
I didn't care too much for Moka Only, BTW. I'd rather listen to a Modest Mouse side project.
-
as in Ugly Casanova?

Both of these songs are fun, especially International Pony:

Good review of Kanye West's new album...
It's a mess of techno synths, haunting organs and familiar sounds re-purposed ingeniously, an avatar of the weird post-Internet world where the jump between Daft Punk and mainstream hip-hop doesn't seem all that far. And no one understands this new world better than Kanye, as he samples Steely Dan, Daft Punk, Can, Michael Jackson, to create one of the the most creatively produced hip-hop records since De La Soul. More importantly, he chops the samples well, manipulating the vocals effortlessly and precisely to create a seamlessness that his music had often lacked.
I'm not sure how this album will hold up over time, as I've only heard it a half dozen times so far, but my gut instincts tell me that it will go down as one of the great rap records of the decade. [ still, that's not exactly saying much - Rusty]
More of the review + a couple tracks.
http://passionweiss.blogspot.com/2007/08/kanye-west-finally-delivers-classic.html
Both are good!

More hops for ECN to enjoy!

You and me aren't so different, El Chupa Nibre.
-
Whoever compared Kanye West's creativity to De La Soul's needs to be shot. Several times. :flush:
You're right, even though he didn't really do that, but you'd be hard pressed to find mainstream hip-hop in the last five years or so better than what Kanye's putting out.
-

im starting to realize this.

Sure he did-

Saying they're both lots of creative. Kanye couldn't sniff Prince Paul's jock creatively. That's not a reflection of how/what I think of Kanye, but more of how great De La was/still is.
On a related note I saw them play with A Tribe Called Quest at the ku Ballroom once. Q-Tip freestyled for 5-10 minutes while his DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad fixed his DAT machine. Was cool. Also was cool running in to De La at The Holiday Inn in Lawrence before their show (saw their tour bus, guessed, and stopped).

Mashups are hit-and-miss....this is one of the better ones I've heard in a while:

Jean Jacques Perrey - "E.V.A.":

The Teenage Prayers - "Dreams of the South" is catchy and has good harmonies. I think I like good harmony (see: Midlake) because of my love of Boyz II Men when I was in junior high.
http://www.captainsdead.com/2007/06/21/san-diego-it-actually-means-whale-vagina/
Mark Berube - "Cloudy Day" is Tom Waits-y with less Tom Waits voice. "Songs We Used to Know" from the Whiles on this post is also worth a listen:

Iron & Wine - Carousel
http://linesthroughlines.blogspot.com/2007/09/iron.html
Everything Iron & Wine does is solid, but this is a little different from his normal folksy stuff - no acoustic and some cool vocal effects. I like.
Fun fact: My HS American History teacher's name was Sam Beam. And he had a brother named Jim.

This thread gets an 8/10.

When I first heard it, I had no idea it was him. Everything else I've heard from the album is pretty standard stuff (still good), but I like this direction. Another side project of nothing but stuff like this would be awesome. Not sure who he'd do it with, though.
I'll check the vids out tonight.
-
Probably the last one today: all of this Beirut stuff is pretty good:
http://passionweiss.com/2007/09/23/beiruts-the-flying-club-cup-triumphs-over-the-sophomore-slump/

i would have never guessed it either. if he were to do a side project, i'd like to see him with death cab, or maybe bright eyes. though im not much of a bright eyes fan. alexi murdoch would be pleasant.

MC Solaar is pretty cool, even for a french rapper. He's got a song on Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1, (Le Bien, Le Mal) that's good.

rusty, where do you find these "blogs" with music on them?
-
http://www.hypem.com <-just search for A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul, and you'll find a bunch of blogs that have posted mp3's from them. A lot of times they like similar stuff. Sometimes they don't and suck. You just have to give them a shot.
There's also a list on my blog.
You would like Oh Word, Get Down, Bounce/oz, and maybe something I don't subscribe to like 33 jones or cocaine blunts.
I reccomend using something like google reader to subscribe to rss feeds, and the Download Them All firefox extension for the best mp3 blog enjoyment.
