i couldn't download the mp3 from ill eagle, but the album cover looked interesting.

oh, you should check out the black keys too, they kick ass. 10 am automatic reminds me of a lot of chicks i have known.

You're right...it just doesn't bother me.

They're alright (not my favorite, though).  They seem like they'd be fun to see live.

Kanye West doesn't care about George W Bush.

Kanye West broke some old ladys femurs in half when he passed out at the wheel of a rental car and hit her head on.  He later made a rap song about how bad his jaw hurt from the accident and how people should feel sorry for him and made millions of dollars.  The old lady can't walk anymore.  True story.  But, Steve Dave doesn't care about George W. Bush either fwiw.

Yeah, I was a horrible fan when I was a senior in high school.  I won't lie.  I was better in elem/jr. high/college.  In high school I was more concerned with finding someone to buy booze and chasing girls (unsuccessfully, of course).

I did attend sr. night that year, though (vs. Nebraska)

Good review of Kanye West's new album...

Quote
It's a mess of techno synths, haunting organs and familiar sounds re-purposed ingeniously, an avatar of the weird post-Internet world where the jump between Daft Punk and mainstream hip-hop doesn't seem all that far. And no one understands this new world better than Kanye, as he samples Steely Dan, Daft Punk, Can, Michael Jackson, to create one of the the most creatively produced hip-hop records since De La Soul. More importantly, he chops the samples well, manipulating the vocals effortlessly and precisely to create a seamlessness that his music had often lacked.

Quote
I'm not sure how this album will hold up over time, as I've only heard it a half dozen times so far, but my gut instincts tell me that it will go down as one of the great rap records of the decade.  [  still, that's not exactly saying much - Rusty]

More of the review + a couple tracks.

Saying they're both lots of creative.  Kanye couldn't sniff Prince Paul's jock creatively.  That's not a reflection of how/what I think of Kanye, but more of how great De La was/still is.

On a related note I saw them play with A Tribe Called Quest at the ku Ballroom once.  Q-Tip freestyled for 5-10 minutes while his DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad fixed his DAT machine.  Was cool.  Also was cool running in to De La at The Holiday Inn in Lawrence before their show (saw their tour bus, guessed, and stopped).

His Majesty King Raam

I didn't find those, but what I did find was really good.

I also heard LL Cool J's "I'm the Type of Guy" on the way to work this morning.  Badass.

just use hypem.com.

I guess I only got two.  Most blogs remove mp3 links after a month or two.

Jean Jacques Perrey - "E.V.A.":

Like the blogger says, it's pretty f*cking amazing that this was made in 1970.

I really like this for some reason:

Spoon's version of "Bring it on Home to Me" is solid, too.

The Teenage Prayers - "Dreams of the South" is catchy and has good harmonies.  I think I like good harmony (see: Midlake) because of my love of Boyz II Men when I was in junior high.

http://www.captainsdead.com/2007/06/21/san-diego-it-actually-means-whale-vagina/

Mark Berube - "Cloudy Day" is Tom Waits-y with less Tom Waits voice.  "Songs We Used to Know" from the Whiles on this post is also worth a listen:

Iron & Wine - Carousel

http://linesthroughlines.blogspot.com/2007/09/iron.html

Everything Iron & Wine does is solid, but this is a little different from his normal folksy stuff - no acoustic and some cool vocal effects.  I like.

Fun fact:  My HS American History teacher's name was Sam Beam.  And he had a brother named Jim.

When I first heard it, I had no idea it was him.  Everything else I've heard from the album is pretty standard stuff (still good), but I like this direction.  Another side project of nothing but stuff like this would be awesome.  Not sure who he'd do it with, though.

I'll check the vids out tonight.

i would have never guessed it either. if he were to do a side project, i'd like to see him with death cab, or maybe bright eyes. though im not much of a bright eyes fan. alexi murdoch would be pleasant.

Kind of like that Soulsavers I linked a while back.

Title: Re: Rusty's ongoing GMA
Post by: michigancat on September 28, 2007, 03:25:44 PM
http://www.hypem.com  <-just search for A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul, and you'll find a bunch of blogs that have posted mp3's from them.  A lot of times they like similar stuff.  Sometimes they don't and suck.  You just have to give them a shot.

There's also a list on my blog.

You would like Oh Word, Get Down, Bounce/oz, and maybe something I don't subscribe to like 33 jones or cocaine blunts.

I reccomend using something like google reader to subscribe to rss feeds, and the Download Them All firefox extension for the best mp3 blog enjoyment.
