Murphy had a return for a TD.  :ksu:

Heard Murphy looked much faster than Moore returning punts. Which is saying alot because Josh runs a legit 4.4 forty. Very glad we added that blazing speed at the WR position (Hogan, Murphy, & Jordy with 4.4 40's). We already have the size:

6'2" Jordy
6'3" Lamark
6'4" Ernie
6'3" Gonzo

my dad said there were a lot of drops from the wideouts, not jordy though, he didn't know who they were.

Is that it proud?

How did Lamark, Ernie, & Hogan look. How about Stringer, did he look healthy?

How did Aufner look? Guidry?

I will say this again.  Muprhy competed at the Juco national championships in the 100 and 200.  To compete in that meet you have to hit qualifying marks in those sprints.

Murphy has big time speed.

A few observations:

Lamark Brown is indeed very good.  He made some great catches but I also saw him drop an easy one.

Deon Murphy impressed me very much.  Had some good catches but was most impressive on returns.

Stringer is healthy.

Josh had some nice throws but didn't seem to be working that hard.

Carson is ALOT better than we give him credit for.

Alesana was working with the starting unit at left tackle throughout the practice.  He did ok but jumped off sides once or twice and I also saw him holding pretty bad.

Justin Woods impressed me more than any of the new guys.  He was making some great cuts and showed surprising strength for a running back his size.  He also got very excited after good plays.

Watts, Nelson, and Campbell are just plain good. (duh)

Rob Jackson has also improved..... ALOT!!!

Offense:

QB: Freeman looked pretty sharp, had a real nice pass to Jordy, I mean he threaded the needle, it was nice.  IMO Coffman didn't look as good, btw.

RB: JJ and Patton were alright, but like KstateProud said, i was very impressed with Justin Woods. he's just plain fast, and you're right, his strength is beyond because his dad is a big time trainer here in JC.

WR: Jordy is flat out awesome, we know that. I was most impressed with Ernie Pierce, he made a ridiculous diving catch. Lamark looked legit, but seems like he's just getting the hang of things.

Line: The line did quite well, but Alesana had to run because he kept jumping offsides...i laughed though.

Defense: It was hard to evaluate the D when i was focused on the O line and the QB. But i did follow Patterson a little, and let me tell you, he's fast as hell. He deffinately flies around the field. Watts is still a beast.  On the last drill, Prince had to yell for Gary Chandler to "get in the fraking drill", and when he was slacking in the drill, he got an earful from Watts. Cambell and Jackson held their own. That's about all.

Special Teams: Kicking was pretty bad, might have been because of the wind, idk. Tim Reyer is still solid at punter. Deon Murphy is damn fast and has good vision on the returns. i'm deffinately excited for that, i can see him grabbing that position.

Overall, the practice was run pretty well, and i was pretty impressed. We have a VERY fast team. Our guys sure aren't that big (i saw them up close at the autograph session), but they can run.  I could tell Prince has been working these kids pretty good, especially the line.  Is it Sept. 1st yet?

ps. this shall be my last post, considering the awesome number i am currently on.

thanks for the updates guys.

It sounds like Cheatham is first string CB opposite Moore.  So maybe my dream is coming true in DBackfield...only I love Baldwin too.  Now if we can just get Tigner in there.

I can't wait to see Lamark at LB.

Also, it looks like from some pictures that we used the shotgun formation.

From a poster at Kstatefans, he said that Leon Patton didn't make the trip because he has the flu. true or not, whatever.

and no catzacker, i never saw the shotgun used, fwiw.

Please, it wasn't that bad. There was a breeze at least, and shade. There were pregnant women there, puss.

I stand corrected catzacker. I actually like the idea of implementing the shotgun, about damn time.

Going thru the video now I took on Saturday.

One one clip, I have two of the above mentioned subjects...

1)Deon Murphy's TD return
2)Freeman in shotgun

*When I get the video on YouTube, I'll let everyone know.

NOTES:
*Patton was not there. Looked for him all day.
*Chandler got his arse chewed a few times
*The QBs were throwing passes into trashcans -- I'd guess 30 yards away. The only guy to get it in a can... Coffman.
*The O-Linemen ran for quite a bit after practice

Not sure who the right side DE/OLB is, but based on the fact that he's the ONLY one moving and where the ball is in the photo, that is a SICK first step!!!

WOW.... just WOW!!!

Funny... I remember that play for some reason and it was Rob Jackson who got off the ball so well.

That is kind of who I figured it was, but didn't want to make an incorrect assumption since I can't really see his number or just how big/small the player is based on the angle of the photo.

Thanks!!!

Contrary to popular belief, the shotgun was used several times last year towards the end of the season.  I believe we even used it in the UT game.

Just to jump in...it was hot.  Reyer boomed some punts getting 65 yds with the wind on some spiral punts.  PK's were truly unimpressive kicking into the wind.  Kind of a combination of kicks looking weak, not getting up quick enough, bad accuracy.  I know we have generally been spoiled with good PK's, except for the unnamed year, so I hope one of the four can step up.  The practice was interesting to watch.  The presentation was pretty good with concessions available and hand out KSU placards.  However, it would've been a really nice move for someone at the athletic dept to print out rosters with numbers...would've made following the practice more interesting for those of us who were bright enough to think of printing them out...but who forgot to actually do so.

Possible secondary benefit of the practice was the LARGE volume of high school coaches that attended taking notes on how to structure and run practices.  The good will may not amount to anything, but who knows.

The coaches I sat with did seem impressed, but also thought Prince cycled through the defensive drills too fast.

We sat next to the Olathe East football coach and he had quite a bit to say. The way they ran their practice is just like a lot of other high schools, just more fast paced. i was able to recognize a lof of the drills.

I heard one coach comment that he was quite glad to see Woods out of the HS ranks.
