Title: running
Post by: fatty fat fat on August 06, 2007, 08:38:03 PM
does anyone here run regularly? It's really hard, and everything just hurts.

how long does it take for it to stop?

Funny you ask that because I just started running again yesterday on our treadmill (doesn't make anything hurt). Hadn't run since my last tennis tournament, now just taking a break, but needed to get back into proper shape.

I wrote a persuasive paper in Comp 1 for the dangers that running has on your body ( I hate running).  Justin Montgomery and I argued about it for like 15 minutes in class.  I got an A on the paper.  &@#% you Justin Montgomery.

It only hurts for the first few weeks at most.  I'd recommend slowing down.  Start out at a comfortable pace.  The important thing is to keep jogging - no matter how slowly.  The rest of the garbage that you're concerned with (improving endurance, losing weight, etc.) will work itself out in time.

running is great, i love it.  when i have time i try to go 6 miles a day, 4 days a week.
it will probably take you a couple weeks to get your body up to it where you're not hurting.
then you start feeling really good instead of hurting.
then you start eating a lot.  my appetite grows with how much i run.

Do you like running on tracks, streets or treadmill? I don't even think twice of treadmill ( i hate the rec, everyone so much better shape than me)

Fatty, you should run through Colbert Hills... Or on the Hudson Trail. You live close enough to both.

pretty much let the weather determine where i run.  if it's nice outside i prefer to run outside.  if it's too hot then i run on the treadmill, last choice is the track.  running outside is good for me because the changing landscape, etc keeps my mind wandering and on other things.  if you have health issues (bad ankles or knees) you should consider a treadmill or the indoor track.  it really doesn't take too long to start getting results.

be sure not to start running too far too fast, you can hurt yourself and be out of commission for a long time.  work your way into it.
stretch before and after running, otherwise you won't be running long because you'll hurt yourself.

fatty:

play tennis.

I need to run some and play more soccer.  Sports are the only way you will stay in shape.  Running is pointless without the sports.  Its like jerking off all day with no spooge.

My high school has a ridiculous cross country team (15 straight boys state titles) because of the coach, who is considered a god. the man is a genius, great coach and teacher (teaches Calculus and is great at it). so during class i asked him some tips on running cuz i knew i would have to run a lot at wrestling camp, so he got me a running schedule and gave me some help and i just started running this past spring. at camp we ran ridiculous amounts, let's see, we had runs of 4, 6, 7, and 9 miles, and the last run on the final day was 12 freaking miles with a time limit. i seriously don't think i could've made it without his strategy and tips. Now i run about 3 or 4 miles a day just so i don't lose what i gained. here's a tip, when u feel like you're getting real tired, touch you're forefinger and thumb. trust me it works. when you're running downhill, tilt you're chin down and look about 10 feet in front of you...always keep you're feet under you, don't drag.

ps. i still fracking hate running.

oh and make sure you get a good pair of running shoes, no matter the price. asics are boss.

I used to think the same thing when I ran cross country and track, because I never hurt....but after sitting on my ass, staring at a monitor for hours, even playing mario strikers charged on wii gave me a sore right arm (from all the hits I put on the other team, think cross checking, except it's legal, and I took out his whole team over and over, LOL).

great game btw.

what kind of running are you doing? if your doing running similiar to KSU players are doing for summer conditioning, then give it a week or 2 and you should be fine, if not 2 days and you'll be fine
