Lynn Dickey is saying that Josh failed his first physical test.
So we may have our winner for the first PUP candidate.
-
Gods are held to a higher standard than mere mortals.
-
I freakin' love PUP test drama. Every team should make this stuff public. Awesome.
-
He came into fall practice five pounds too heavy, and he knows that. If true, having to take the test again isn't a bad thing at all....
-
phoggies everywhere are jerking off.
-
Outstanding. I was hoping for a name player on the PUP list to start practice.

Remains to be seen if he'll go PUP.
As J-Mart would say, some players are more equal than others under Prince.
-
I don't see how a kid that passed it last year can regress. Yes, he put on weight but all we hear is how he added muscle. Either the strength coach isn't teaching flexibility/conditioning or Josh got fatter. There really is no other way to see this right now unless Josh slipped or something.
-
Ron is a f*cking genius.

The "Machine" is just starting to get warmed up....
-
I would love to see the reaction if the Olathe practice features Carson and Caleb under center.
I bet Carson was buying Freeman donuts and pizza all summer.
-
He'll be under center all but the end of practices when they do the fun stuff -- the freestyle scrimmage. While that's going on, all the PUP guys have to do stuff like run stairs. I guess in the public scrimmages, the PUP guys get humiliated a little more, but it isn't like he won't be practicing.

This was the shuttle that they ran last week at the end of summer conditioning. The first fall camp shuttle run is today (unless he ran it this morning and he failed)
I wouldn't worry too much about the PUP test for Freeman - just to give an example, even though he is 20-30 pounds heavier than some of the D-ends, he is required to run the shuttle 5-6 seconds faster. I'm guessing he won't be standing on the sidelines in sweats like some of the guys last year were required to do.
-
YESSSSSS, some real football news!!!!! :ksu:

Worried?
Not at all.
Amused?
Yup. I don't mind the star player getting a dose of humility, but would kind of like to see the team leaders set a high standard.
-
What skill position players were on last year's PUP list?
-
This is funny. Mr All-World can't pass a test at little ole KSU. KSU, the 2nd best school in Kansas..
-
ku fans are taking this as proof that Freeman is "immobile" as they've been claiming. LOL

Speaking of failing tests, what was Purify's BAC?

I think ku fans can just take last year's game in Lawrence as proof the Freeman is "immobile." :nutkick:
-
and supposedly he's running the shuttled time w/ the skill players.
If true I hate it that our 260lb QB can't run like a corner.
-
what will be amazing is when a 6'6" 260 lb QB passes the test at the same speed as corners and wr's. From what I heard he got the 50 seconds the first two times and was close on the third. Prince could have made it easy on him and have him run it with TE/LB's and get 6 more seconds. Humility is good but over coming adversity is even better! Ad Astra Per Aspera!

Hell yeah she is.
And my guess Prince not passing Freeman has more to do with team politics and making a statement to others than anything else. Something tells me he'll still take a few snaps this year.
Oh, and he's really not all that mobile.
-
Prince wants to make Josh another receiver from the backfield.
Best of both worlds, Freeman passing to Freeman.

One thing else is for sure, Brook Berringer would have also failed this test straight from his grave.
-
i have seen him at subway on tuesday twice this summer. last time i thought about asking him for a personal refund for the price of my ku ticket. next time i will call him a fat ass.
:ohno:
then run like a girl...
:bootyshake:

And Eric Crouch would have quit when the coach told him to take it.

Wow.. Pretty current material.. Speaking of tests, how many hours did Bishop study for his drug test. Bishop was so stupid that he couldn't remember most of the plays. Another fine example of a KSU student. :jerkoff:
-
At least Bishop wasn't a crack addict who got kicked out of Arizona State.

You K-State fans who aren't too busy drinking the :koolaid: need to get a clue. Anyone else find it interesting that as soon as this news broke, The Kansas Republican Party suspended Ron Freeman indefinitely? This isn't good news folks.

Bishop might have been as dumb as the day is long, but he was never dumb enough to: get a DUI, beat up his girlfriend, punch a fan in the face, try to run down a bunch of kids with his car cause they beat him in flag football, or make a throat slash gesture towards officials.

Or try to kill himself....and even and fail at that

Sam Keller failed to show for his conditioning test after a member of the women's volleyball team stole his parking spot at the athletic complex. The ensuing hissy fit by Keller, and the subsequent discussion with law enforcement, precluded Keller from completing the test.
The girl, after recovering from hysterical laughter, commented that Keller's arm showed tremendous strength as he threw a plastic cup at her.
The cup fell incomplete.

Actually, I wish he would repeat his '06 performance. Any change in your future HOF'er isn't good for us.

jayhox, I don't think you realize just how bad ku football has been. You'll soon (28 or so days) be reminded in under 5 minutes.

I &@#%ing despise people who reply 5 times in a row. I hope you kill yourself. Better yet, I hope Mangino falls on you and you're forced to eat 3 year old chicken wings and drink sweat bubbles that are trapped under his left size EEE breast in your last attempt at survival because Big Brutus is the only thing that can help you. Rot in hell, scum bag.

Woo! 300th post!

Who cares if he's gotten too fat to pass a fitness test? He was the best freshman QB in the history of college football, and he'll be the best sophomore QB in the history of college football. Power of One, Freeman is unstoppable, unbeatable and without a doubt, invincable.

Cornhole Football . . . Restoring the Order 5 losses at a time. Cornhole Football . . . an A&M brainfart away from being 2-5 in their last 7 games.

Freeman still in 'doghouse'
By Tim Bisel
The Capital-Journal
Published Sunday, August 05, 2007
MANHATTAN — Just three days into preseason practice, Kansas State's Josh Freeman finds himself in a place no Wildcat should be.
"I'm in the doghouse, so to speak, right now," Freeman said Saturday during K-State's Football Media Day.
Freeman, the mammoth 6-foot-6 quarterback who set the school's freshman passing record last season while making eight starts, remains unable to participate with his teammates because he has yet to pass coach Ron Prince's preseason conditioning test, which consists of three 300-yard shuttles.
Freeman has tried and failed twice, the latest attempt coming Saturday.
"I was a lot closer this morning than I was the first day," he said.
Skill-position players and defensive backs are required to complete each of the three shuttles in 50 seconds. Linebackers, fullbacks and tight ends are allowed 55 seconds, while linemen are given 58 seconds.
Oh, if Freeman were only a linebacker.
"I can make the first two," he said. "The last one's the one that's been giving me trouble.
"It's just right at the end, the weight starts kicking."
Yes, this definitely is a weight issue. Freeman said he ballooned to about 265 pounds as recently as a few weeks ago, in part because he spent the summer trying to increase his upper- and lower-body strength.
Although he has shed about 15 to 20 pounds and now weighs between 245 and 249 pounds — the weight he hopes to carry during the season — Freeman admits he erred in neglecting cardio workouts.
"I came in weighing quite a bit more than I usually weigh, and that's no excuse," he said. "I felt like I was in good shape, and obviously the time parameters coach gave me, I wasn't able to step up and do it.
"I'd say once I pass this test, that'll probably be the biggest hurdle for me as far as just getting back in the swing of things."
With less than a month remaining before the Wildcats open the season Sept. 1 at perennial power Auburn, Freeman's practice absence is troublesome. It becomes an even bigger concern considering K-State is trying to work several new receivers and linemen into its offensive plans.
"It's a big deal, and I've made it a big deal," Prince said. "And as you can imagine, I've made it as uncomfortable as I can.
"I'm not just trying to prove a point or be a jerk, but there's a standard and an expectation. It's not just him. I'm not trying to go overboard with it, be a curmudgeon or anything like that, but we have certain standards and we're going to meet 'em. There (are) no exceptions."
Not even for the team's star quarterback, who is receiving plenty of support from his teammates. Freeman said fellow quarterbacks Carson Coffman and Tysyn Hartman even ran Saturday's third shuttle with him in an attempt to push him.
"He'll get it," senior receiver Jordy Nelson said. "It's just a little bump in the road for us."
A bump Freeman is eager to clear.
"Coach tells me all the time it's a mental test, and I'm just working as hard as I can to get this done and be there for my teammates," he said. "I can't really make any excuses. It's either you do it or you don't. I'm just looking to knock this thing out in the near future."
Meyer passes test
Prince announced Saturday that sophomore offensive lineman Derek Meyer passed his conditioning test and has been cleared to return to the practice field.
Meyer, who appeared in the first five games last season before being sidelined by injury, is expected to challenge junior college transfer Alesana Alesana for starting honors at left tackle.
The Wildcats now have six players remaining on the physically unable to perform list. Joining Freeman are offensive linemen Jordan Bedore, Brock unruh and Brad Rooker, defensive lineman Vlad Faustin and backup QB Caleb Smith.
Prince lauds Stringer, Spexarth
Prince reiterated Saturday that the offensive line remains one of his biggest concerns, but the second-year coach also lavished praised on two of his linemen — Topeka sophomore Nick Stringer and Colwich junior Gerard Spexarth.
"It's obvious that they've taken the offseason seriously," Prince said. "And they've improved, not only from a knowledge standpoint, but (with) footwork and all the boring stuff that coaches like to talk about."
Stringer, an All-Stater from Hayden who missed spring drills while recovering from shoulder surgery, is playing right tackle, the position he occupied most of last season. With a handful of linemen unable to practice Friday because they had yet to pass the team's conditioning test, Stringer took all of the repetitions at right tackle.
Spexarth is lining up alongside Stringer at right guard.
More rave reviews
While Prince lauded Stringer and Spexarth, senior safety Marcus Watts raved about juco transfer Ernie Pierce, who is expected to challenge for a starting position at wide receiver.
"Ernie Pierce is a guy that stuck out in my mind because I see him a lot, obviously because he's a receiver," Watts said. "He's done a great job over the summer getting himself ready for camp, and he's done a good job so far in camp."
Other newcomers who have stood out so far include linebacker Chris Patterson and defensive end Michael Abana.
Personnel news
Wide receiver Deon Murphy has yet arrive for camp because he is still completing academic work, but Prince expects the 5-10, 170-pound junior transfer from Coffeyville Community College to join the team soon.
Juco lineman Eldridge Sims probably won't, though.
"It doesn't appear that Eldridge Sims is going to make it, and we've got some questions about some other players," Prince said.
Sims, of Compton (Calif.) College, signed a letter of intent with the Wildcats in December, but he wasn't listed on the roster K-State released Saturday.
Uniform change
The Wildcats will have new jerseys to go with their new-look defense this year. The jerseys will have "K-State" written in small letters on the front (just below the neck) and back, and the sleeves will show the Wildcats' numbers.
"I like them," K-State receiver Jordy Nelson said.
-
Shortly after that photo Freeman dropped the Gatorade and threw his glasses to a guy in a white jersey.

I know. If someone gives me the score of last year's game again, I am going to hurl.

Freeman has tried and failed twice, the latest attempt coming Saturday.
"I was a lot closer this morning than I was the first day," he said.
I guess he wasn't within a whisker of passing it on the first try after all. Very confusing. It's not like KSU fans to just go and make %$#@ up.
