Speculation already points to Braves hitting coach Terry Pendleton, who concluded his 15-year career by playing in 1998 for the Royals, as a leading contender. Pendleton has long been viewed as a prime managerial candidate and has spent six years in training as a member of Bobby Cox’s staff.
There is already building public sentiment for the Royals to grant a serious interview to Frank White, who paid his dues by managing the last three seasons at Class AA Wichita after quick dismissals as a candidate when the club hired Tony Peña in 2002 and Bell in 2005.
George Brett would be hard to ignore if he expresses interest. Brett agreed in principle to become the Rockies’ manager in 2000 before Colorado general manager Dan O’Dowd pushed instead, ironically, to hire Bell.
Bench coach Billy Doran is likely to merit discussion. He served as the interim manager for the final 10 games last season when Bell left the club to undergo treatment for a cancerous growth in his throat.
Other names already popping up include former Florida manager Joe Girardi, who was the National League Manager of the Year in 2006; former Oakland manager Ken Macha, who took the A’s to two division titles in four years; and even Buck Showalter, a two-time selection as Manager of the Year.

Hey, I was only kidding. Lighten up, dude. I loved watching Quiz pitch. I became a Royals fan as a 10-year old kid in '85.

Sources indicate, however, the Royals have cooled on former Florida manager Joe Girardi as a candidate. They say Girardi expressed interest in the position but wanted to slow the process until learning what other managerial positions might become available.
The Royals’ list of candidates is believed to include former managers Jim Fregosi, Ken Macha and Jimy Williams; Braves coaches Chino Cadahia, Terry Pendleton and Brian Snitker; Royals bench coach Billy Doran and former Royals player Frank White.
Doran and White are viewed as long-shot candidates. Cadahia, Pendleton and Snitker lack what appears to be a preference for previous big-league managing experience, although Cadahia and Snitker managed for 10 and 17 years in the Braves’ minor-league system.
Moore previously indicated a desire to hire a new manager before the World Series, which begins Oct. 24, in hopes of accelerating the club’s offseason planning.
Joe Torre?

Henry Rowengartner as pitching coach? What do ya think? :woot: :woah:

"Uh, yeah. Kansas City sounds. Great. Let me just see if... anything else at all opens up."

At least someone's being realistic.
Joe Torre?

Torre! Torre! Torre!
-
I think it would be a terrific story if we got Joe T. and he was the guy that took the (gasp) Kansas City Royals to the next level
-
Torre would be horrible in KC fwiw. If I wanted someone to sit in the dugout quietly and be nice to the players I would have kept Pena.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in Leo Mazzone in some capacity.

Dick Houser

I didn't. Somebody else did.
I'm hearing that we've settled on someone that I've never heard of.....
Trey Hillman
Apparently he's a Yankees Minor League guy. We had Tony La Russa, Joe Torre and Joe Girardi out there and we end up with Trey Hillman?????

You were merely spectators in their job searches, and you should be happy your front office had the savvy to realize this.

Buster Olney was just on 810 and called it a "terrific" hire.

This is Hillman’s first big-league job. He never played, coached or managed previously in the majors. He spent three years in the Cleveland system as a player after signing as an undrafted free agent in 1985 after a all-conference career a shortstop at Texas-Arlington.
Hillman spent 1987-88 as a scout in the Indians’ organization before becoming a coach at Class A Prince William (Va.). He spent the next 11 years as a manager in the Yankees’ system before going to manage the Fighters.
The Foreign Sportswriters of Japan picked him as their 2006 “Sportsman of the Year.”

-----
The Kansas City Royals announced Friday that they have reached an agreement on a multi-year contract with Trey Hillman as manager.
Hillman, 44, is currently managing the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan's Pacific League. He spent 11 years as a manager in the New York Yankees' chain, starting as a 27-year old skipper and recording a first-place finish with Oneonta (A) in 1990 and running through the 2001 campaign with Columbus (AAA), earning Manager of the Year honors in 1996 and 2000.
Hillman then became a very popular figure in Japan, leading the Ham Fighters from a stretch of dismal campaigns to a composite 351-324 mark (.520 winning percentage) over five seasons, going to the postseason on three occasions, including a Japan Series title in 2006. His efforts were rewarded when he was named the 2006 Japan "Sportsman of the Year" by the 2006 Foreign Sportswriters of Japan.
