Title: Does losing in Austin prevent you from wanting to make the trip?
Post by: JMITCH on August 01, 2007, 01:03:03 AM
Just curious.  I was wondering if it would keep the purple crowd at a minimum.

I'm taking KSU and giving 10 against NU.

Thanks much and good luck in the North.

Not for me. I went four years ago and even though we lost I had the time of my life. IMO, Austin should be up there with New Orleans and Vegas as places everybody should party in at least once in there lifetime.

Did it stop Horn fans from coming to Manhattan last year?  Yes, I guess it did for the most part.

true, element of suprise... they'll never see it coming.

edit* which means that we should win auburn... purposefully lose all of our games until the Texas game, and then suprise them with a win. its brilliant. we will be 2-2, but 2-0 against top 25 programs.

Again, JMITCH, why are you nothing short of guaranteeing us a loss? I bet you probably did the same last year.

Not at all...

Having spent a fair amount of time in Asstin, I'm well versed in the knowledge that your little village is chock full of wimmens that are "long on looks, but short on morals".  Great combination, by the way...

6th St in Austin is supposed to be second only to Bourbon St in Now Orleans as far as bar districts go.  Personally, I'd put Aggieville up there somewhere too.  I may be biased though. :koolaid:

I guess I'll make the 15 mile or so trek to the stadium.

It'll be tough though.

6th St is &@#%ing awesome.  They don't call Austin the live music capital of the world for nothing.  Of course, the last time I was down there we whooped the horns, held Ricky to like 43 yards and David Allen brought one to the house.  Also, the chicks down there are hot, the people are surprisingly friendly, (Read: super, super nice) and there is a bar (or ten) for basically every taste.  I had UT alums buy me at least ten beers the day/night of the game,(I wore purple all day/night) I saw a fight last all of thirty seconds before the cops showed up and threw them in the back of a "paddy wagon," and had a blues band stop (right in the middle of a song) and start playing "Kansas City" when a group of us walked into the little bar they were playing in.  All in all, Austin is my second favorite Big XII stop (Of course, Manhattan still blows it out of the water.  You can't beat the fact that you can just walk to every bar, and then walk home) and behind only  Tempe (hot, hot, hot chicks) and San Diego (Gaslamp Distric, nuff said) as the best cities to travel to for a game.

Didn't we hold ricky to 43 yards in Manhattan in '98? We played them in Austin in '99 and Ricky had moved on to the Saints at that point.

We lost last time we played in Austin.

The last time I was down there was '99.  Yeah, you're right about Ricky having been in the league at that point.  1998 was his Heisman year, and we made him our bitch at our place.  All those games I attended in college seem to blur together, I wonder why?  Oh yeah, I never attended one (even somewhat) sober and that was like eight years ago.  Either way, my post was more about Austin being a great road trip, one I would highly recommend to anyone who has never been.  Next time I'll check the facts a bit before quoting any stats.

I thought we were going to pull that one out. Highlights of the weekend (besides the women):

buying tickets from Major Applewhite's dad and drinking a few beers with him.

nearly getting knifed by two hoodlums at 3:30 AM while waiting for a cab.

We had a friend who went to UT for grad school. She said that 6th street is awesome but to be sure and go home when the bars close because the crazies (hoodlums, homeless, tranvestite fortune tellers, etc...) come out. So we go out after the game and have a good time until we find ourselves still down there around 3:30. We're waiting on the corner for a cab when two Mexican looking guys walk past us with two chicks. They get about 10-15 feet past us and my buddy goes "I think we could take them". Naturally they hear him and come back at us holding a knife and get in our faces. Thanks mainly to some quick talking and the two chicks being a lot more sober than the rest of us, we made it out of there alive.

We didn't exactly pull that one out.  We won fairly handidly, 34-17.  I'm not sure what you meant by that...

Talking about the game in Austin in 2003(edit for clarification). We lost 24-20. We got down early 17-3 and then came back to take the lead in the 4th but couldn't hold on.

I guess if we weren't down there for the previous games we lost, we'll never know.

Gotcha, you're talking 2003, I was talking 1999.  A little misunderstanding there.

We pulled that one out.

Go back and look at the box score.  Two non-offensive TDs.  Halftime score etc.

Yeah, I was there.  It was a close game, but he was saying he thought we would pull that one out.  However we were talking about two different games.  I was there in 99, great game.

6th street is only about a third of the total downtown nightlife scene.

I agree, even with the loss, you'll still have a win over NU and a shot at Auburn so you may as well go to Austin since it's the best road trip in the B12.

Best roadtrip for a KSU fan.  Second best for any other fan in the Big XII!

I have a friend from Austin who said 5th St. (I think??) was where more of the locals hung out.  We didn't make it there while I was down there last, so I don't know if that is true or not.
