Post by: ksucrcoop on July 30, 2007, 02:51:26 PM
Boone Pickens is F$%king Ridiculous
Here's what can happen when you have a single alum with a net worth of $2.5 billion and donates 265 mil to just athletics...

I was at a 2 week wrestling camp there earlier this month and witnessed all the construction first hand.  You know when you see construction around your house and it seem like nothing ever gets done, well that wasn't the case there. Just in the two weeks i was there we noticed a lot get done.  All their facilites are flat out ridiculous. We got to use the weight room and it was quite impressive. ugggh just looking at those aerial views gives me nightmares of running all over that f*cking city and running stairs in gallagher iba. f*ck boomer lake and its running trails. f*ck stillwater.

Once the recruits that are attracted by the facilities surrounding the stadium start playing, I'll bet filling the stadium won't be a problem.

ADTW would have lots of money to save if we had billionaire alums like that.

Same size school, smaller town (compared w/ksu).  Plus having to play OU Tex A&M and Tech every year will make it tough for the pokes.

I love sports and everything, but I'd be pretty embarrassed if a KSU alumnus decided that it was a better idea to donate $250 million to athletics as opposed to, say, $50 million for athletics and $200 million for a new library and a few hundred thousand books and stuff.  Anybody know what the Hale addition to Farrell Library cost KSU?

Oh, well.  As long as people like Boone Pickens run things, Oklahoma will keep being Oklahoma.

Not really. Why not just donate it all to academics then? I say good for OSU and Boone Pickens.

Really have you been to the library lately? Like 4% of the student body has actually ever checked a book out from there. It's all about the databases!

I know that people consult journals as well, my friend, but the best work has been known to show up in textbooks and novels from time to time.  Just thought that "a few hundred thousand books" would be a quick way to say it without sounding all asinine and stuff.

Apparently T. Boone is a big contributor to various G.W. Bush campaigns and the Swift Boat Veterans as well.  FWIW

Hold on just a minute....lets say someone donates $250 million to KSU athletics.  The result of that donation is consistent top ten finishes in hoops and football over the next ten years with a nat'l championship in each.  Did the positive publicity and interest generated by this bring enough other donations and attract enough other students to enhance overall contributions by $200 million over the next twenty years?   No, I didn't think so, either.  But it would be fun!

Maybe it's just the tightwad in me, but while I agree shiny facilities are nice and necessary, I want to see more action on the operating side of the budget.  It's hard to imagine KSU will ever become one of the top AD budgets in the conference, so we should try real hard to be smart with the cash we got.

Simple things like working it out so the AD doesn't have to pay out of state tuition to the university, endowing scholarships, etc. would take millions out of the operating budget every year that could then be used to finance and maintain new development.
