Title: Shrine Bowl thoughts
Post by: fatty fat fat on July 28, 2007, 09:38:33 PM
(Keep in mind, I've never played football, but I do have a great personality)

Drinkgern: Got beat numerous times. QB seemed pissed at him. Slow feet. But hey, gotta trust ron eh?

Bell: Insanely small. Looks thin. Can't break a tackle. Has a good burst (impressive cross field run). Could be a solid kick returner, will never play RB vs big 12 comp.

Reed: Big kid, not running instincts. <---runs right into pile. Pretty damned slow, doesn't break tackles that well for a big guy. How are his hands? TE?

Jeff Hubka: Incredible stud. Has the vision, speed, instincts, looks, personality, brains, charm, personality, wit, body to be a All-Big 12 performer by his 3rd year.

I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I have been curious about something. After you guys beat Texas I told a KSU friend of mine that I thought you guys were going to reap huge rewards in recruiting as a result. That doesn't appear to have happened thus far. My question is, why do you guys think Prince has seemingly struggled to capitalize on the huge success of the Texas game in recruiting?

I think that Prince is aiming too low.  It's cool to sign a bunch of guys nobody has ever heard of...if you make their offers contingent upon the best players saying no.  Given the way that Prince has coddled Freeman, it's pretty obvious that he understands how critical it is to land big-time talent.  Why his recruiting strategy instead screams, "I can win with anybody!" I don't know.

Who will Hubka play for?  Did we offer?  I can't find any info on rivals.

Maybe he just isn't that good?

For football, it's one thing to be a good recruiter in Virginia (or Maryland in Franklin's case), where the surrounding states and the state you're in have a larger quantity of quality athletes, it's quite another to be a good recruiter in Kansas.

This is probably not a valid excuse when Arthur Brown and Chris Harper are seniors.

Drinkgern:  He's a project.  Has the frame to add a lot of weight and is a decent athlete.  Doesn't appear to have had much good coaching to get him to play lower.  Has bad habits that can be corrected if he's willing to make the commitment to improve.

Bell: Great running back when given a clear lane to showcase his speed.  Otherwise, just doesn't have the moves to make defenders miss.  Doesn't appear to have gained much weight since last season.  I wish Prince would have offered the RB from Ray-Pec before offering Bell.

Reed: Needs to continue to gain weight and move to FB.

KSU walk-ons: Like the motor on these guys.

Word gets around and Prince is viewed as something of an ego-maniacal dick a.k.a. my way or the highway.  Maybe kids just don't want to take a chance playing for him.

Hubka is walking on to K-State. He's from Medicine Lodge.

How about Cat fans waiting until Prince finishes this season before we assume the team we have can't play.  FTR,  I think we beat MU-ku-BU-ISU-OSU-NU-CU-SJSU-MSU-FSU and possibly Auburn and UT isn't out of the question.  It's going to get good in the fall! :ksu:

If Dee has good hands, stick him at slot WR....

LOL at eternal optimism when chances of that happening are almost 0.
and LOL at picking ksu to beat every team except rival Texas, which is about the only sure fire win on the schedule.

i don't think one win against Texas is going to just pull in the recruits.

Need to go to a major bowl game.  Everyone agree?

Prince 2 star recruiting =  :banghead:

We are better than this and until we win games I feel completely ok being angry and pessimistic

We won games last year.  Thanks for playing...but...you lose!  Keep up the angry and pessimistic act...it's mildly amusing.  That's really what you are here for...my ammusement.

Drinkgern was nothing short of awful.  Basically was turned around yelling "look out" at the qb all night after Jonas sprinted by him relatively untouched.  I was mildly optimistic about Prince's ability to read talent until last night.  Bell and Reed very underwhelming too.  Giving a scholly to a kicker that misses an extra point and a 19 yard field goal!?!  That's ok though because we have Freezen and Kirk coming in this year.   :frown:

Cherry is rated as the 7th best kicker in the country out of his class. Just an fyi.

Actually, he was rated number 12 but whose counting.  The number 12 rating is puzzling considering he was only 15-22 (68%) with a long kick of 52 yards.  Those numbers don't usually result in a BCS scholarship offer...just saying.

My bad, I was going off of another posters post..* He did hit 45 of 48 extra points in high school though.

Relax, this time last year; people were making the same complaints that all we sign are two stars.  By signing day, it was...  "you take away 2 or 3 of these crappy WTF recruits, and we have a prettys solid class"  It's kind of fun to just step back and watch everyone.

I don't mind 2 stars in non-skill positions if we can coach them up- As long as we get the 3's and 4's where it counts: TE, DB, QB, RB, etc.

One issue with reaping rewards from the Texas victory was our class was almost full.  Look at the dates of when kids committed and we had a ton of kids commit well before we beat Texas.

Chad, Cherry was about 1 for 3 last year but keep in mind he was starting QB as well as DB he was on the field the whole game. He will be a solid kicker for the Cats.
Just don't let him near the veggie oil he will make a mess of the classrooms.

Why is everyone complaining. The rb's were recruited on their speed.  I see no problem there.  None of you are judging fairly.  There could be position switches.

Anyone else remember Marcus Watts when he was in the Shriner?

He played just about every skill position on the field, including Kicker.
