Title: Simpsons
Post by: asava on July 27, 2007, 01:42:06 PM
The Simpsons movie is coming out tonight and i was wondering what everyone was thinking about it. I used to be a huge simpsons fan, but have kind of stopped watching it... any opinions?

I've seen every single Simpsons episode, and I think the movie will be like the last 7 or 8 seasons = stupid.  FOX humor will ruin it.

My brother saw it at  midnight and said it was hilarious.  He said he didn't know what to expect after the past couple seasons have been kinda lame.  Spiderpig.....Spiderpit.....Doing whatever a spiderpig does.

I'm still a Simpson's fan, although I haven't watched it religiously in about 6 years or so.  I'm going to see it tonight for old time's sake.  I'll report Monday.... unless the thread is too barried by then.

If it wasn't for DVRs, I probably wouldn't have kept up with it the last few years.  The show has fallen so far from the "Homer at Bat" type episodes.  I'll catch the movie at some point in the next week, and hope it makes up for the last few seasons.

I'm more of a South Park guy, I've never really gotten into the Simpsons.

That's because they came out before you were born.

I had a lot of fun watching it.  Go to it with a group of Simpson's fans.  Definately one of those movies that's a blast to watch with a packed theatre.

For that reason, I'd say it's worth paying the $7-8 to see in a theatre; but only if you're a Simpson's fan.  There were jokes that I'd compare to season's 4-5 and jokes I'd compare to Season's 9-present stuff.  And quite a bit of stuff that wouldn't make it past the censors for a broadcast episode.   Basically an R rated 2 hour version of the actual show.   Good stuff.

If you are or ever were a Simpsons fan, I'd recommend it. It had a steady stream of laughs, and knew not to over step its boundaries at only an hour and 20 minutes or so. I really think that they devoted more writing to the making of the film than the past few seasons- it shows.

FWIW, I took a friend that isn't a Simpsons fan and he really enjoyed it.

I can't tell the difference between Simpsons seasons.  They're all about the same to me.

some pretty dramatic differences. the simpsons moved in phases. if you've seen enough of them it is pretty obvious.

How many's "enough"?

i think i have seen every episode up until season 7, then they start missing. i would say at least 4 from every season. i don't know, i guess its one of those things where "enough" is defined by when you notice the differences.

There's always some writing & directing difference that have had a huge affect on the type of commedy that Simpsons has.

30-40 different people have received writing credits for the simpson since it started in the late 80's; some have been writing for the show the entire time, some only had stents for 4-5 years.  Same with directing, only I think there are only like 20 people that have directed the simpson's.

Seasons 3-9 were the golden era of the Simpsons, IMO.

After that they resorted to too much low brow cheap humor. They lost alot of the good writers to bigger and better things.  Their antics got too far-fetched and crazy to be funny.

The Simpsons lost substance in their later seasons. They used to reflect society's quirks and qualities through witty humor and extreme situations. Now, they've just had the extreme situations with no meaningful reflections or much humor for that matter.
