When watching the Louisville game.
Question:
If JF would've started from the Illinois State game, what would've been our record last year?
My guess:
Would've given Louisville a way better game. Was watching last night and our D was really shutting down the Louisville offense, except for their first drive. And If JF would've had that 3 game experience going into the UL game, our offense atleast would've been able to put points up on the board in the first half. Alot of missed opportunities anyway. Dylan throwing the INT when we were inside their 15 before half. (Even if Stringer didn't block his DE and Dylan's arm was hit.) UL's fake punt where Erker missed the tackle right at the line of scrimmage, blocked FG.
Would've beaten Baylor. With JF would've already starting four games at QB, one which was against a top 10 team, he would've been ready for Baylor on the road.
Would've given NU a better game. JF's 2nd game starting vs. blackshirts, hard to do.
Alot of my opinions would've gone in our favor by JF having more experience and having those three easy wins/experience behind him: vs. MU, FAU, ISU.
I'd say just another win (vs. Baylor) under Prince's belt. As well as putting four more under JF's. (ISU, FAU, MU, BU)
Just another topic to think about leading up to the 2007 season.
What's your opinion?

I had that same though during the nebraska game.

Just be glad we had a coach that made the decision to go with the true freshman as early as he did.

If we started Josh in the Illinois State game he would have been pulled before the FAU game. We wouldn't have seen him again then until the Baylor game so it would have all been moot.

True, most head coaches wouldn't have the balls to do that. Mostly with overtaking a RS senior with a true fresh. But it definately was the right decision for the program and for Josh because we were going nowhere fast with Dylan at the helm.
And pertaining to the question, you've got to think the reason why Prince didn't start JF from day one because of being a true fresh and having the troubles with learning the plays and adapting that fast to D-1 football.
Because we all know that JF is by far more talented than DM could ever dream of. (post shoulder surgery)

25 interceptions would have been a sight to behold.

LOL. But he had 12 picks and still managed to go 4-4 vs legit competition.

Nothing different from a true frosh QB being thrown into big XII play...

No way Prince ever pulls Freeman, or ever would barring injury

Do you remember how poor of a performance Freeman had in the few snaps he took against FAU? It would have been like that, but we wouldn't have been up by 45. Granted, we would have still won because of our defense and the Ill. St. head coach going for two but everyone would have attributed the lack of offense to Freeman rather than the whole offense. He would have been pulled and wouldn't have seen time again until the Baylor game is what my guess is.

Remember when almost everyone thought that Freeman would redshirt? It was just one year ago.

"Dylan starts in 2006. Get's a med-red-shirt and comes back in 2007, then Josh is ready to go in 2008"

You dont just start a true fresh QB and pull him after not playing well in a game. It's a longterm deal that requires lots of patients & knowing that your in it for the long haul when you decide it's time for JF.
If a true frosh QB is your most talented QB on the team, why hold back??

Wasn't that Lombardi's philosophy/quote when he signed a bunch of veteran players while everyone else was going after youth? Quite the opposite of the meaning you intended.
