Injured reliever Brandon Duckworth reported no problems with his left oblique after throwing from a mound for the first time since suffering a torn muscle June 13 against the Cardinals.
“I just played my normal (flat-ground) toss and then threw 20 pitches off of the mound,” he said. “I was just trying to get it there and see if I have some control of my body. Nothing crazy, exertion-wise, but everything felt good.”
Tentative plans call for Duckworth to throw today from flat ground before attempting another bullpen workout before Wednesday’s game. If all goes well, he could begin a minor-league playing assignment.
Outfielder Joey Gathright has six hits in three games since returning to Omaha after the Royals activated Sanders.
Left-hander Neal Musser, who also returned last week to Omaha, threw two scoreless innings and got a save.
First baseman Ryan Shealy is two for nine in two games since starting his rehab playing assignment. He is recovering from a strained left hamstring.

Right-handed starter Luke Hochevar picked up his first victory in Class AAA, leading Omaha to a 4-2 victory over Salt Lake on Thursday in the first game of a doubleheader.
In the seven-inning game, Hochevar pitched six innings, allowing eight hits, two runs and two walks while striking out four. Hochevar is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA.

Luke Hochevar threw 6 2/3 innings and gave up four runs and seven hits Saturday in Omaha’s 7-5 loss to Memphis.
Hochevar got a no-decision. He is 1-2 with a 6.82 ERA in six starts.

Mike Moustakas is working out with short-season Idaho Falls but isn’t expected to make his debut before this weekend.
Lefty Jorge De La Rosa will begin his minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday by throwing 45-55 pitches in a start for Class AA Wichita against Arkansas. He is expected to make two minor-league starts before rejoining the big-league club.
De La Rosa was diagnosed with a strained left forearm after his July 31 start against Minnesota. He was placed on the disabled list the following day.
The Royals cleared De La Rosa to begin his rehab assignment after he experienced no problems in a 60-pitch workout before Sunday’s 6-1 loss at Oakland. He was 8-11 with a 5.46 ERA in 23 games before his injury.
Rain forced a postponement Monday of right-hander Brandon Duckworth’s scheduled rehab start for Class AAA Omaha against Albuquerque. He gave up five runs in two innings last Wednesday for Omaha in a loss to Iowa after making two starts for Class A Wilmington.
Duckworth is recovering from a torn left oblique suffered June 13 against the Cardinals. He was 2-3 with a 2.94 ERA in 18 games for the Royals before the injury.
Right-hander Blake Wood pitched eight no-hit innings Sunday for Class A Burlington but got a no-decision when relievers Rick DiPietro and Chris Hayes gave up two runs in the ninth in a 2-1 loss to Quad Cities.
Wood, 22, was the Royals’ third-round pick in the 2006 draft. He is 1-1 with a 2.68 in 10 starts this season while splitting time at Burlington and Rookie Arizona.
Omaha wasted homers by Justin Huber, Shane Costa, Chris Lubanski and Mitch Maier in Sunday’s 11-8 loss to Albuquerque. Just-acquired Paul Mildren gave up four runs and seven hits in five innings against his former teammates but handed a 6-4 lead to the bullpen.

Mike Moustakas knows how to make an entrance. He lined a two-run double in his first professional at-bat Saturday night for short-season Idaho Falls in its game at Ogden.
Moustakas batted third in the lineup and made his debut as the designated hitter instead of playing shortstop.
He was the second overall pick in the June draft but didn’t sign until roughly 10 minutes before the 11 p.m. deadline on Aug. 15.
