Moving out of an apartment this weekend and of course I have to pay to have the carpets cleaned. Any recommendations on cheap carpet cleaners (emphasis more on the cheap than the actual quality of the work)?

Go to a hardware store, rent that crappy red box with wheels, put in minimal amount of soap, make girlfriend/wife push around for awhile, return claiming it didn't work properly and No, you do NOT want another one to try as you are DONE with this place, storm out with money refunded and tired wife/girlfriend.
EDIT: If you don't want to scam the place they will just rent you the thing pretty cheap if you don't mind doing it yourself.

I thought about renting one but apparently we have to provide a receipt to our landlord showing that it was done by a professional or we get charged $0.40/sq. ft. I have no idea what a good rate for this is.

Yeah, in Manhattan. Emerald Property Management - wouldn't recommend them - pretty crappy landlords all the way around. I might as well not even pay to have it cleaned because I'm sure we're going to get screwed out of our deposit anyway - even though the place is sparkling clean.

is your apt complex owned by chang? I remember having to do that too, not sure if that is standard or not, I just know that chang owns a crap load of apts there.
I would recommend paying someone to do it, cleaning carpets yourself sucks ass and it's fairly cheap if you get one of those van guys to come in with their hoses and crap. They will knock it out in an hour, whereas you will spend 2 days doing all your carpet.

They are going to charge you anyway. Don't even bother having it cleaned.

Also, tell them you are going to use your deposit as your last months rent. I did that twice...but Joe Tiao was my landlord. He used to come to our place about 3 weeks after rent was due to collect and he was never pissed. The great thing was we had the money but we just knew he would come to get it so why drive down there. He was pretty cool. I would reccomend his apartments on 12th & Vattier and the one across the alley just like it. They are fairly clean and cheap.

Mike Lin sucked along with Doug phelps his property manager.

Excellent Seinfeld reference. Sorry Piss, I just noticed that you posted the same pic. Oh well, another picture of Mr. Wilhelm can't hurt.

Ya I have Emerald Property Management too. Regina is a ho fo sho. My roommates and I are just cleaning everything out and not doing the carpet. Although one of my roommates is nervous that if she gets pissed about the carpet it could affect our credit. Is this possible???

I can't imagine how it would effect credit, but I'm hardly an expert on credit issues. But when you sign a lease elsewhere, they usually want previous addresses for the past 10 years along with name and phone #. Basically as a reference check like on a job app. Not sure how many of them actually check.

Next time you see your roommate punch him in the face and tell him that his talking privileges have been revoked. The only way dirty carpet could affect your credit is if your landlord ended up charging you for the carpet. Even then the charges would have to exceed your deposit amount and then if you deadbeats didn't pay the remaining balance they could send you to collections and THAT could hurt your credit.

I'll go to bat for Regina and Emerald Property Management (and not just because Regina called me "one of her favorites" today). EPM doesn't do a bad job, and while they can be petty about things, they have usually been more than accommodating to us. We decided to rent from them again, albeit at a different house. What can I say, I'm loyal.
As far as anything affecting your credit, no way. Though they are getting more organized (they have an office now!) ... I doubt they'll have any way of tracking you down or finding anything of relevance about you.
She once signed a rent receipt on the back of a Panera bag.
