What part of town are you staying in?

I'd suggest you try some or all of the following-

Oklahoma Joe's (http://www.oklahomajoesbbq.com/)

Gates & Sons (http://www.gatesbbq.com/)

Arthur Bryant's (http://www.arthurbryantsbbq.com/)

Jack Stack (http://ward.uat.dminsite.com/)

I've heard good things about LC's but never have gone over there to try it.  What do you recommend there? Ribs, Brisket? Pork? Chackon?  Let me know and i'll grab some and give it a run.

I tried to make my list the biggies that encompass all things KC BBQ.  Where would LC's fit in terms of sauce base (vinegar or molasses)?  Their beans & fries good too?

I don't know.  I just liked it.  I haven't gotten anything but beef.  Sauce is sweeter than Gates.  Beans are OK.

Yes, I'm serious.  There isn't a single person living in Johnson County who doesn't think that crazy place in a gas station isn't the best BBQ ever.  Not one.

It's pretty good, though.  It doesn't have the "SOUL" of KC BBQ though.  LC's, Rosedales, AB's... :lick:

Don't direct your snobbery towards those who like Oklahoma Joes - just Zarda and KC Masterpiece.  :jerkoff:

I like Oklahoma Joe's, too.  I don't like it as well as LC's or Gates, but I like it more than everywhere else.  I just like making fun of Joco-ians.  KC Masterpiece is too easy - even Joco's turn their nose up at that place - it's kind of like a music snob lambasting someone for liking Nickelback.  Never eaten at Zarda.

Some BBQ factoids:
I ate at Famous Daves.  It really did not taste bad, as much as I wanted it to.  That doesn't mean it was good or compared to KC BBQ. But it wasn't bad.

AB's still cooks their fries in lard.  LOLLING @ transfat.

Zarda is beyond terrible.  No further comment needed.

Ok Joe's recently upped the price of their fries from $1.75 to $3.00, now they're labeled as "The Best Fries In KC"  :blahblah:  too much salt imo.  I hear their ribs are the best in town but haven't tried them.  I usually go with a jumbo pulled pork or a zman.

Rosedale is one that I need to revisit. It's been years since I ate there and don't believe my palate had quite matured to the level of master bbq taster like it has now.

The LARD makes them fantastic.

OK Joes fries are not very good, IMO.

Another I forgot to mention - Haywards. IT SUCKS, but it used to be good.

Hmm...let's ask the NY Times:

Quote
The waiting is over. Mr. Holl’s breathtaking addition to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, opening here on June 9, is his most mature work to date, a perfect synthesis of ideas that he has been refining for more than a decade. By subtly interweaving his building with the museum’s historic fabric and the surrounding landscape, he has produced a work of haunting power.

I'm pretty sure that means badass.  ;)

Been to the Developing Greatness exhibit?

No, I've just been in the free part.  I've heard great things about it, though.

Cool. Will check it out. Time in the West exhibit coming soon and it's free. Yay!

Oklahoma Joe's is the favorite of everyone living in Johnson County.

Yes, I'm serious.  There isn't a single person living in Johnson County who doesn't think that crazy place in a gas station isn't the best BBQ ever.  Not one.

Thanks for speaking for me.  I actually prefer Gates.

Gates Beef on Bun, OJ's fries, Jack Stack baked beans and Gates Hot BBQ sauce   :lick:

Wow, we have a winner right here.

Except which burnt ends?  I don't think I've had bad burnt ends from anywhere.
