If in place in 1998, K-State would have played and most likely won a national title. :crybaby:

Doesn't matter now, atleast right now.....
There should've been a CFB playoff system between the years '96-'03. :crybaby:
-
I'm betting we'll never see a playoff.
-
Screw the playoff and screw a BCS champion.
Send it back to the days of a bunch of bowls and a couple popularity polls. Equally bogus, but you lose the pretension of legitimacy.
-
I either want a large scale playoff (half the DIA teams) or keep it like it is.
If we go to a 4 team playoff system, someone will be left out. We will not lose the controversy.
ESPN had a write up on a playoff system involving every team. It really made sense and was feasible. We would start the season with a few conference games to determine seeding. After that, the tourny starts. Teams would alternate home and away so fans knew where their team would play. If they got booted from the tourny, teams would continue with conference play to determine conference ranking. The season would be the same length. It would be fair to all teams. And can you imagine how intense it would be? Imagine March Madness times 50. Maybe even 55.

No paper does a better job of getting sources to go on the record than the NY Post :D
But since the Post has been money lately, I'm buying the story as being true!
FWIW, I hate the idea of a playoff or +1 system. It'll only encourage big conference teams to put together a Kansas-like schedule.

I don't buy any of that "someone will be left out" crap. There are six AFC and six NFC teams in the NFL Playoffs. "What about team seven?" What about them? There are six. Those are the rules. There are eight Eastern and Western Conference teams in the NBA and Stanley Cup Playoffs. "What about team nine?" What about them? There are eight. Those are the rules. There is one AL and one NL wildcard team in the MLB Playoffs. "What about the next team in each league?" What about them? There is one wildcard. Those are the rules. There are 64 teams in the Big Dance (no I don't count the play in game). "What about team 65?" What about them? Those are the rules.
Pick a number, eight is fine with me (each of the six BCS conference winners and two wildcards), and stick with it.
