Title: Colon...
Post by: ksu_FAN on April 27, 2006, 09:02:34 AM
Coached in AAU by Alvarez, major Huggins ties.

Coached in HS by Rodriguez, coached HS ball with Martin for several years.

Player on the rise, as evidenced by his great AAU weekend Tournament.  Once he took the test and became elgibile, suddenly offers from UConn, UMass, and maybe Pitt show up.

Player just coming into his own, came to his HS at 290 pounds, now down to 255.

It looks like we may be getting a steal.  I'm sure we knew about the kid, but we seem to have came down looking at Baldonado then got a chance to see Colon and saw something that we liked even better.  Then it appears we steered Baldonado to Dusquesne and when Williams qualifying status came into question, we steered him to Ole Miss.

Plus, he's a 6-10 kid that his coaches say is more of a PF which would compliment Bennett nicely.  He is the only "official" offer out there, though we seem to be recruiting Hannah hard.

Looks like a kid who could make a bigger impact than I first thought.  Maybe not quite as big as Williams, but the gap is likely smaller than I anticipated.

Am I missing something?

Not really.  He was just kind of way down the radar originally, offer to Baldonado and NOT him, then the last few week that has changed a bunch.   We've officially offered him (and not Hannah, that I know of) and he seems to be our #1 target now.  Holloway is pretty much forgotten.  Our recruitment of Colon has just changed a bunch.  The fact that he becomes elgibile and suddenly he has offers from some pretty good programs says quite a bit IMO.

So he hasn't committed yet or anything.  Will he visit?

Martin(?) reported Holloway going AWOL from IMG and has people steering him to the NBA.

He hasn't committed, but plans on visiting.  That is supposed to be set up this week.  With our connections to both his HS coach and AAU coach he seems to be ours to lose.  Like Baldonado, I would guess he's another kid that Alvarez brought to Florida to play ball.

BTW, BP still saying that "his opinion" we will have 5 new players next year.  Says Colon is slow, but better than Holloway.  FWIW.

I never reported that, Rusty. I think I may have wrote it here. Careful now...

I think four new players is a distinct possibility. I don't even know where the fifth would come from...

QI'll take your dare - what's going on with Clarence Holloway? Is there a chance Huggins is finished recruiting for 2006?
Russell, Kansas City, MO 4/19/06
ANo, not finished for 2006. I knew I could count on you, Russ. Word has it that Holloway has disappeared from IMG, just vanished. Said to have a handler in Chicago - where he is from - that is encouraging the 7-foot-1 center to go pro. Just spoke with another source who said Huggs is in Chicago, so take that for what it's worth.

Based on what we currently know:

Young
Bennett
Colon (?)

Possibilities:

Hannah
???

I can see Huggins going "Wooly on Donnie Wallace" on Darren Kent or Yearby.  Which reminds me, is Kelso still around?

Kelso is in town, but I don't know in what capacity.  He was with his son at Annenberg last sunday when I took my son fishing there.

We are certainly recruiting both Colon and Hannah as if we plan on signing both.  I agree though, I don't know who a fifth would be, either leaving the program OR a kid we are recruiting.  If there is a 5th, perhaps we hold the ship for next year.

Darrell Arthur and Scottie Reynolds.  Mark it down.

"Player just coming into his own, came to his HS at 290 pounds, now down to 255."

I sure hope he can keep the weight down if we get him because even though he is 6'10", players with extra weight always end up sucking.  Glenn Davis is bigger but he has incredible quickness for his size to make up for it.  There isnothing worse than a big fat ass player that is slow.  Huggins recruited a few guys like this at UC and they ended up being major busts because they were too lazy.  BJ Grove was one of the top players in his class.  He was 6'11" or soemthin like that and was heavy, he sucked major ass and never lived up to his hype because in college basketball, height isn't enough.  If we get him, he will definitly be doing a lot of running under huggs so hopefully it won't be a problem, but ya never know, they thought they would be able to get bj grove in shape and his fat ass was too busy eating cake and washing it down with grease.

If Holloway is a slug then why is he trying to head to the NBA ?

Does Huggins think there is another transfer coming ????

"If Holloway is a slug then why is he trying to head to the NBA ?"

Because he is an idiot.  He has NO CHANCE to get drafted.  But it's his life and pipe dreams...

Holloway is bad news. If he comes here he'll be the next BJ Grove or Robert Whaley. Big Slow centers dont get along with Huggs.
