Title: Played the NCAA Football 08 demo for 360
Post by: ChicoRodriguez on July 10, 2007, 11:35:58 AM
at 4am this morning.  It's amazing.  Way better than 2007.

• The player models are a lot different.
• Everything runs smoother
• Improved o-line blocking
• Juking system is better
• Hit Stick v2.0 is outstanding

Graphics improvement or just different?  How is hitstick different?  Where you K-State?  If so who stood out?

2 questions...

Gang tackling?

Also, I like the small, after the play celebrations.  Are there more, and is it fairly realistic?

Yes, gang tackling. Is not just one player making the tackle every single play???

Do they have the new jumbotron on the south end?

If you did have the opportunity to play with KSU, are there any player ratings that you remember. Freeman, Campbell, Jackson, etc.

That's the one thing that always bothered me.  Gang tackling happens pretty much every play.

Anybody know of a reliable place to get a cheap core xbox 360?

I need to have this game.  I don't care about the fancy hd dvd, online, or whatever.  I need this.

I'm thinking about doing what Chico did. I'm going to go to Best Buy, get a 360 for this game, play the hell out of it for one month and then return everything.

The demo is of USC and Michigan (#1 v #2)

Hit Stick is much improved.  Say, for example, you're a small cb and you have to take out a big rb, you can go for an undercut leg tackle.

The crowd is better but I didn't see any of the cut scenes that we're used to from the last few years.  They've limited some stuff to make the demo  a smaller size.  They only had two TD celebrations for example.

Gang tackling AI is outstanding.  Say you're standing a guy up but he's still chugging, another guy can come in and pile on to help you out.

Graphics are much improved.  The 60 fps makes the game incredibly smooth.

As for stunner's question, tonight MS is supposed to lower the prices of the 360.  I think the core is supposed to go down to $249.  Early pictures of the conference stage also show an additional 360 system.  A new 360 perhaps?

2008 is night and day above 2007.  This is what 2007 should have been.

There's supposed to be a lot more celebrations.  The new player models help with the realism of them.  It looks like they took a lot of celebrations from last season in real life.  The Boise State one is the most frequent in the demo.

Also forgot to add, the pontiac game changing performance is the actuall game changing play.  You can now save video clips from the game and go back and watch them later.  You'll also be able to upload them to the net.

Excellent question.

As far as player models go, is Josh Freeman 7 feet tall, and can he consume the Huskers with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse?

Just give it some time, price drops are coming to both platforms.  Not everybody's got Chicoesque type drug dealer jack laying around to have both platforms on their 65" Plasma.  Little bastard!

Not really. Just mentioned the upcoming price drop and ebgames used consoles (and the MS warranty still works with those).

The demo doesn't have play-by-play (again for space reasons) so I couldn't tell you.  I think it's supposed to have some new play-by-play stuff though b/c the forums I visit were complaining that it wasn't in.

Dude, you can download demos to almost all games for free on the 360. The only ones that don't have demos are movie games like Transformers, so they don't give away the movie.

Plus, they're putting all of their E3 content online. So all the videos and demos available at E3, you can download for free.

Did you know about Xbox Live Arcade? They have tons of old games (like Castlevania, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game, etc.) and new ones. They cost like $5. Every week one or two are released. Every month or so they release a free one. I got Texas Hold 'em a couple months ago for free. Not to mention you can rent tons of HD movies and tv shows off of Xbox Live. You can also stream music, pics, and video from your networked PC.

PS. Yes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has 4 player online coop. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/t/tmntxboxlivearcade/

So I just played '08. I'm kinda disappointed. It's exactly like Madden, now. Convoluted controls, flashy graphics that aren't needed, funky UI (they stole Madden's play selection screen, unfortunately). I skipped '07, so it may have changed last year, but either way, I'm disappointed they went that route. That said, the features look to be really nice. Recruiting towards your style, having to keep promises, etc. Minigames will probably be fun as well.

I didn't say I didn't like it. I was just disappointed with some changes. I was hoping they'd stay away from the Madden example and make their own better. There's no reason to have laggy UI transitions or a messy play selection screen.

Back to gang tackling...do they pile on almost every play?  Cause that would be sweet.

Seriously, little things like that.  Was watching a trailer, which had a fumble.  Does EA realize how sweet it would be, after every fumble, for the team on defense to be jumping up and down, waving "first down", regardless of whether or not they have the ball?  It wasn't like this in the trailer.  Seriously, if EA included little crap like that, I wouldn't just be considering to buy a 360 + the game, I would already have bought it.

Agree 100%. We're all college football fans. The game will be fun to play; that's a given. It's the little touches that could put the game over the top.

What else do you think they need?  It seems like they covered everything, just need more reactions and personality from the players.

I didn't have the last version so it might be fixed, but do players still magically go through other players or the ref?  Is the ball still magnetized to a receiver's hands?  Do receivers still slide to the ball sometimes?

I haven't had one since '05, so I don't know. As far as what they need, you said it: personality. The more little college touches they add to the game, the better. I don't have good specific answers for you that come to mind at the moment.

There's still some clipping that occurs between player models. I'm not sure that will ever go away. I played two quick games (2 min quarters in the demo), and saw no sliding catches (threw too many INT's). I saw a few nice gang tackles. Blocking and tackle animation is superb.

How about the smell of tailgating and that crisp air?  Or they could just put in a couple of cut movies of fans pissing on the opposing fans car.

Recruiting desperately needed revamped. In 08 I hope all 5 star wide recievers don't run a 4.16 forty and have 40+ inch verticals. Also, I'd like some of the highly touted running backs to be below 5' 9" and when you switch their positions they don't become terrible.

It's nice to see it still has the bug where when you turn the ball over, the next play selection screen defaults to special teams.

I'm assuming that the price hasn't been dropped?

MS has been saying the 360 will drop soon, but not at E3. Most people are thinking that they're going to wait for their new revisions to come out. That way, they can say, they fixed the problem and back up their product. Should be a month or so- or right after you buy one.

News has also come out about the PS3's "price drop."  They're saying that Sony dropped the price of the 60 GB version to $500 and introduced the 80 GB at $600. This isn't all. Sony is now reporting it's just to move the stock of the 60 GB PS3 as it will be discontinued. So really, there is no price drop.

I can't believe they only have dark visors.  WTF is Patton, Johnson, Gonzo, and half our defense going to wear?

Aren't colored visors illegal now? Didn't they make a rule saying only clear visors were allowed?

I dunno, I remember hearing they can't have tinted, but I see players with it all the time.  Now all black will make it super lame.  I'm going to return the 360 I just bought just because of this.

I think the rule was just put into place starting this year.

I hope you're kidding about returning the 360. Any chance you'll let me play it?
:shy: I'm so damn tempted to buy one but then I'm afraid that I won't get anything done.

Hurtful words, my friend. I've been in with your family since I was in kindergarten.

I think it's for QB's only...   So's the defense can read the QB's eyes.

Kind of like how I alwasy wear dark sunglasses at the beach/swimming pool when my wife tags along.

I found the reasoning, it's for medical reasons.  Team doctors or trainers want to be able to see the eyes of a player without taking their helmet off if they were to be knocked out or whatever.

Screw EA, I'll still probably give every player a visor though.
