Title: My Trip to the University of Georgia a KSU sister school.
Post by: sonofdaxjones on July 05, 2007, 07:46:31 PM
I was in the Atlanta area the other day so I drove over to Athens and checked out the University of Georgia.  School of Ag, VetMed, Poultry Science etc. etc. right by the Football Stadium.

Cool campus, albeit I don't really dig red brick buildings.

Sanford Stadium was amazing.  A 90,000 seat stadium that from one block over on campus you wouldn't even know was there.   You can walk out of the Union, cross the street and be at the Stadium.  You can walk out of several academic buildings, and what looked like older dorms and go 40 feet and be walking through a gate of the Stadium.    I walked around on their football practice fields, they have 2 FieldTurf practice fields and 3 grass practice fields.  Their "vanier" was pretty big, very modern looking with a glass "tower" that goes up about 5 floors that houses nothing but Georgia Football Memorbilia.   Old time wooden shelter right next to practice fields replete with old fashion fans on the ceiling, I can surmise were where the players took breaks . . . straight out of the 1950's.

Any questions??

I want to live in the South.  Do you think Athens is a good place to live?  I was thinking deep south, like Savannah but would be willing to hear any suggestions between Mississippi and North Carolina.

It depends . . . you just want to hang, than places like Wilmington, NC and Charleston, SC would be good, same with Greenville, SC.

If you've got bucks, than there's some high dollar places around Atlanta, Chapel Hill, Beaufort, SC.

Question: Why do South Carolina girls wear dresses to games?

I was thinking of medium cost of living, single/newly wed, with friendly people, where the hatred for the north's aggression still runs true.  I was thinking somewhere like Savannah or Vicksburg but if the place is pitched right, I would be up for a visit.  My dream home is a plantation style with a wraparound porch that I can drink sweet tea on and watch the sun go down (while my hired hands/slaves finish picking cotton).

Yeah, it's not that.  That can be kinda sexy, I think.  It's more the affected amiability and vapid, shallow personalities that I don't care for.

Maybe you could buy the Gump plantation down there in Alabama.  Maybe even take over Forrest's job of mowing the local high school football field.  Maybe get a shrimp boat in the deal too!  Just a thought.

Greenbow is not on the list of possible destinations.  Do you live in the South or visited it often?  I don't want your input if the answer is no.

I don't know. I just know that Chico would have a burning cross in his yard in no time if he moved to SC or 'Bama.

I'm not the in your face Puerto Rican type.  I drive a pickup, listen to country, have a rural Kansas accent, and my favorite bar is Rusty's Next Door.  The Rebs are going to love me.

Dax, we need more stories/photos of women from Dixie.

Standings right now of where Chico wants to live.

1. Charleston
2. Savannah
3. Athens
4. Clemson
5. Auburn
6. Jackson
7. Vicksburg

Add your town to the list or bump it up!

My cousin is a 1999 UGA grad.  I went to her wedding in Athens back in April 2005.  Her and all her friends took me on a tour of the campus, of downtown, of the stadium, of the town.  Pretty cool stuff.  Athens reminds me a little of Lawrence.  Neat place.  If I had grown up in Georgia I definitely would have gone there.

I think it's Charleston and Savannah way out in front but the others are still right there.  If a town comes along that can offer me everything I want in terms of environment and facilities I would bump them right up there too.  It's still early but I'd like to  make a decision somewhere near the end of my senior season.  The offers continue to pour in.
