LOL, I guess we couldn't get any of the first team players.. :yuck:

i wonder how many 2 stars at ksu over the last 20 years have gone on to become all americans and 1st round draft picks.
i had convinced myself that the last 2 classes were pretty damned good considering the short ammount of time on the job for the staff. i thought that this year would have a smaller class and be much more selective. Apparently not.
-
Newman ran a 4.3 forty & very athletic. With those type of #'s and athleticism all he needed was to be coached. Enter Coach Snyder.
And dont bring up T-New, when does a 2 star recruit/track star become a top 5 NFL draft pick. Those things just dont always happen.
Newman was more of track star anyway than a football player, hense the 2nd team.

actually I will be bringing him up again when Terrance Thomas commits.
Douglas impressed the coaches(REAL coaches) at the Nike. But rivals doesn't rank kids just off rivals nike camps...need video etc. But funny how some seem to think that our recruiting is in the dumps over what a few kids might be ranked over video from when they were 16 years of age.

Actually, I think bringing up Terrance Thomas and Terence Newman in the same sentence actually makes reasonable sense. Very comparable #'s and both very talented track stars with lots of room for football talent. Both of which played CB at the college level and both under the radar when it comes to football recruiting.
I was just trying to find the reasoning of your first Newman post. I thought you were trying to compare Newman with Douglas in the way that Douglas could be a hidden gemlike Newman and has the athleticism and talent where he can develop into a great college linemen and possibly NFL.
I follow Kansas HS football closely and never heard of Ethan Douglas from Basehor,KS (WTH?). You usually hear of the talented Kansas HS football kids when you live in KS, and mostly when they play in such a small town/league such as Bassehor and the Kaw Valley league.

"actually" I just mentioned TNew because his example was handy and at arm's length. There are FAR more 2 star-no offer OL in every program I could use for examples. If need be I could provide about 10 off the cuff.
Hell, the Haverkamp kid will start for Georgia this year. Who knew?
The OL is the toughest to evaluate since so much of it is based on attitude, technique, toughness, etc. We don't need a bunch of dominators or something. And whether a 16-17 year old kid who is 6-7 280 in middle of nowhere Kansas has an offer from somebody else is...well, LOL.

Yeah, I can see where you'd fire a coach after having a 10 win season, and then watching you new coach go three years and still never get 10 wins.
I'd take Solich recruiting.
-
Yeah Frank won 10 games in 2003 and was blown out against Texas, Kansas State and Missouri. I just bet you wish Frank was still the coach here.
And Callahan's first full class of HS recruits were either redshirt freshmen or true sophomores last year. Might want to hold off on your "Big Red is Dead" crap.
-

Callahan and Frank both get blown out 24/7.
You guys are done.
-
Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that Ethan performed so well throughout the entire camp in front of Prince and Co. eyes where he was able to earn a scholarship offer when he left the camp. Knowing how Prince evaluates O-Linemen, he had to show Prince some serious stuff while at camp.
The top two things Prince looks for out of O-Linemen is athleticism and size/length. We know he has the size/length, and he must have the athleticism to be a D-1 linemen since Coach Prince offered after seeing this kid compete in camp.
I'm just happy Prince thought this kid was worthy of earning a division one scholarship after he performed at camp before Prince's own two eyes.
-
If there is one thing that I trust Coach Prince on it is evaluating O-Linemen.

Yeah it sure looks like it. Everything going in reverse at Nebraska right now. :blank:

I see this kind of logic quite a bit. I always want to respond by saying "maybe we should offer only two-star guys because they'll turn out to be Terrance Newman."
You know who else was a two-star? Every freakin' player at Temple. 0-11 last year.
I get your point Hatter, but arguing the exception to the rule gets old after a while...

QFT
Look, I know that not every 2 star that KSU gets is a POS, and some will turn out well -- but srsly....not every one will turn into Terrance Newman.
-
I think after each 2* commit there should be mandatory post that reads:
"Terrance Newman, Jon McGraw, Marcus Watts, Ian Campbell, etc"
Or maybe just a post that's pinned at the top of this forum that reads the same, just so we can get that out of the way.

Rivals =2star rank because fat Jeremy crabtree stopped off at Crispy Kremes instead of seeing player in person.
Another person that has drunk the rival's grape coolaid.
There are people on this board that are smarter than some of those guys.
Yeah , I agree with the guy who said Prince might know more than Crabby.

Ron Prince appears to have taken the Frank Solich approach to recruiting.
Do you mean sign a lot of kids who get drafted?
LOL.
A common myth amongst Husker fans is that Callahan is recruiting well now whereas Solich recruited a bunch of bums. Either the arguments are made by Husker tards or the argument is made by...well, Husker tards.
Looking back at the starters on the 2002, 2003, and 2004 defenses that got smoked by KSU...or roughly the games that infuriated Husker faithful (49-13, 38-9, and 45-21)
'02: DE Kelsay(Rd 2-Pick 48 ), LB Ruud(2-36), DT Bingham(7-204), DE Johnson(7-234), LB Shanle (7-251), Bullocks, D. (2-40), LB Williams (4-101), CB Washington (1-23), CB Groce (4-107)
'03: NT Bingham (7-204), DE Johnson (7-234), LB Ruud (2-36), LB Williams (4-101), CB Washington (1-23), FS Bullocks, J (2-40), SS Bullocks, D.(2-40)
'04: DE Carriker (1-13), DT Smith, Le Kevin (6-206), DT Adams,Titus (7-220), LB Ruud (2-36), LB Bradley,Stewart (3-87), CB Washington (1-23), FS Bullocks, J. (2-40),SS Bullocks, D.(2-40)
These are the facts and they are indisputable....even by Husker tards.

LOL. Whoever said any or all of these kids will be Newman? The only thing any of us are pointing out to the naysayers....don't say they can't be a good player just because Crabtree said so...big f'n deal.
And I love the Temple talk. It's not like there are one or two examples of solid teams loaded w/ 2 star and low 3 star kids. There are actually quite a few.
We could start up the "do stars matter" argument...but we have run it into the ground. We won't know until Prince has been in this baby a few years. So there is no sense ridiculing Prince or some 16 year old because some folks who never played and/or coached the game beyond 10th grade level thinks they aren't that good. And we can say "but the lack of offers" argument is a big deal...is it really? Again, both sides of the argument can be made.

How many offensive players got drafted? I don't care if you have the '85 Bears defense-if you have an offense that sucks donkey dong and can't move the football, that defense is going to eventually wear down and break. Frank recruited some good players on defense. But he didn't recruit enough of them and he had an a group of OL that was Richie Incognito and a bunch of Caleb Handy look a likes.

I guess it was your offense that gave up 49 points - 600 yards, 38 points - 530 yards, 45 points - a lot of yards.
Nice logic there Maxell. tard.

Football is a team sport. Tard.
There were a bunch of issues with the 2003 defense that were related to strength and conditioning as well. I wouldn't expect you to know too much about that though. I know you think you know everything that goes on in the NU program but you don't ya dick.

sure...go another direction. You said Solich couldn't recruit..the NFL disagrees but you are correct and the NFL is wrong. Good stuff.

Only a dummy would bury their head in the sand and think Nebraska is going to be an average team for the forseeable future. The teams that kicked sand in NU's face are going to start getting paid back big starting in 2007. The rest of the North division better get their crap together.

:loly:
I know the Norte' is scared as hell about Callahan. What is he now at Nebraska? A game or two above .500 in conference play?
Overall I think NU's talent level on defense is roughly the same...maybe less than what Solich had. Offensively you have more pro-style players...we'll see how they pan out. But nobody is shaking in their boots.
-
There was zero depth on Solich's teams. When the 2007 recruiting class all gets on campus, Nebraska will be loaded with NFL talent on both sides of the ball. Don't kid yourself about coaches in the North not paying attention to what's going on. They are. By the end of 2007, they'll all be re-evaluating the type of players they need to recruit to compete with Nebraska.

Let me guess...some 2007 recruit took a visit down to Manhattan and his father told you we can't compete w/ Nebraska...that it?

Pretty sure Solich never had 70 points hung on him. That's a blowout for ya.

excruciatingly embarrassing given the starting talent on NU's '04 defense...
'04:
DE Carriker (1-13)
DT Smith, Le Kevin (6-206)
DT Adams,Titus (7-220)
LB Ruud (2-36)
LB Bradley,Stewart (3-87)
CB Washington (1-23)
FS Bullocks, J. (2-40)
SS Bullocks, D.(2-40)
But don't forget...Nebraska has "more" talent now than a defense which had two - 1st rounders, three - 2nd rounders, and yet another 1st day pick in Bradley.
Yep...a "depth" issue...or something like that.
Hell, Bernard Thomas was the End starting opposite Carriker. Thomas was the big time kid signee at DE...not Carriker or Moore. Thomas was in the Cali-Texas all-star game and highly recruited. Carriker and Moore had much better careers and were drafted. Shows you what recruiting rankings do for you.
-
Moore was a four star recruit and one of the top 10 DEs in the country as a senior. And what's even funnier is Nebraska hasn't had a good DL coach since Charlie McBride retired. Jeff Jamrog was a turd. John Blake wasn't much better. When Jay Moore is saying he learned more in 2 weeks of bowl practices under Buddy Wyatt than he did in 2 years under Blake, that tells you something. Those players were terribly undercoached.

we told you John Blake sucked as a DL coach...NU fans said he was awesome. Now that he's gone he's no longer any good.
It's sort of like going into last year we had no options at receiver if JF played...now that Figurs is gone we no longer have options. It goes round and round and round.
Will it ever end?
Remember how we weren't going to be any good after Bishop? Rinse and Repeat lines by Big Red faithful.
What was it you said a few weeks back? "No Lamark, No Hogan = No chance"? Does that mean we have a chance now? Or maybe it was another husker..hell, you're all the same.
-
What would be so funny is if we switched the verbal commitments for both schools right now. I just wonder how much you'd be gushing over the players Nebraska has verbals from.

It's truly remarkable how bad Cosgrove is.

Prince will steal Gabbert and move Freeman to TE, his true position.

objection your honor...speculation.
I'm one who doesn't get into recruiting rankings. I'm just as excited about Hogan as I am about Lamark Brown. If I was a Husker I'd think Hogan was a bum and Lamark = Johny Rogers (mocking your stupid Henry = Rimington stuff).
-
Nebraska . . . restoring the order five losses at a time.
Nebraska . . . an A&M brainfart away from being 2-5 in their last seven games.
-
Big Game Billy: Worst in-game coach in college football. Most NU fans won't even argue that fact anymore...and I live in NE.
EDIT: Frank Solich-Did more with less > Callahan-Does less with more
-
Terrance Thomas has no right to be mentioned along with T Newman. Thomas couldn't even get academically eligible to defend his track title.
-

The funny thing about it is NU's best o-lineman by far is Matt Slauson a zero star no offer kid they picked up off the scrap heap late in the process. Ended up playing a lot as a true frosh and started last year as a true spoh. Meanwhile the highly touted Picou's, Roarks, Murtha's of the world have done squat. Yet the Nubbs are still slaves to the star game. You think Harrison Beck, Leon Jackson, Rodney Picou, Justin Tomerlin, Chris Brooks etc would have taught them a few lessons. A good portion of the heralded first class you're trumpeting is already gone or is buried in the depth chart. I wouldn't be holding my breath waiting for that class to put you over the top.
-
When USC rolls into Lincoln...I"m wondering if the Huskertards are going to be shocked to see what big-time recruits really look like. '95 seems so long ago.

USC won't be up for them like they would be for us (their rival). God, we own them so hard.
-
The positions we have recruited for are mostly nonskill positions. I don't mind 2 star lineman as long as they have the potential to develop. I just want good skill players. I want the 4 stars with the QB's, the RB's, the WR's, and the LB's of the world. Right now, only one and a half of our recruits are those players. Once we get more skill players, I hope we also get more stars.
