Which season would you say that a Kansas State football team had the best chance/talent to make it to the BCS championship game???
1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, possibly the 2003 team?????
I would say that we had the most talent on the 1999 squad to make it to the NC, but really do think the team that had the best chance to play in the championship game would be the 2002 team. A big factor in my decision would be that team's defense............wow, TNT!!!!
Which team do you think???

In 2003 if Ell hadn't hurt his hand, we would have beaten Marshal and been contenders when we beat Oklahoma. That Marshal loss crippled us.
-
2003 had a tough road schedule, and the QB depth was bad. The defense wasn't overly talented either, but the offensive line that year was pretty awesome.
2002 really should have been the year, perfect schedule but we had crappy receivers.
2000 wasn't our year. Bad D. (relativly speaking)
1999 wasn't our year either.
1998. Damn.
-
02 had the Defense but the offense wasn't dynamic enough.
03 had the offense and the defense.
-
2002 squad was SOLID. Good enough to win it.

An argument could be made for 1997, our only loss was to Nebraska, who won the National Title. However, we also lost to the Nebs by a painful 56-26
-
We lost a lot of offensive firepower from the 98 team...... so 99' overacheived going 11-1 and being in the top 10 the whole year.
2000, Beasley and the offense were too inconsistent at times. The O looked bad vs OU twice and at aTm, even at Mizzou.
The 97 team had a lot of new starters and we were young too. Howard, Simoneau, Cooper, Carter, McIntosh and Chapman were Fr/Soph. Bishop, Kelly, McDonald, Hanley were all at jucos the year before.... so it took a while for that team to gel.
02 and 03 were our best shots outside of 98. The 02 schedule was very favorable and our best defense was that year. The 03 had a lot of experience and our offense and defense were among the best in the country when we were healthy
This is how i rank them ---
1. 1998
2. 2003
3. 2002
4. 1997

I think 2008 is our best shot

NO QUESTION! That team could nut up with any team in the country - when Ell was in. QB depth started suffering after the Beas left. MAN did I love that team.

2008
I think 2008 is our best shot
2006 was the 2001 remix
2007 will be like 2002
2008 will be like 2003, but hopefully we won't run into that three game rut we did because of injuries and our QB will be careful before the bowl game

I don't think that'll be the case, unless we get Brown, Harper, and a couple good O and D linemen.

thats what I'm counting on

Good luck with that.

I could see a KSU team going 6-2 in conference play again, but will we ever see a team as dominant as those 02,03 teams? (in terms of statistics, pf/pa)
-
I think the 03' team had the most talent to win a NC. All of our losses were by one possesion, and we played like crap in each one of them.

In one word...........hell no. :crybaby:

2000 team not getting enough credit. I think if OU didn't have the entire previous Wildcat coaching staff, K-State wins the Big 12 and is likely in the MNC game @ 12-1. That team beat a top 5 NU team in November and trounced UTenn in the Cotton. Lost 2 games to national champ OU by a total of 13pts. I think that was the two closest games anyone gave OU...and they had recruited and coached all our players.

I agree with all of that. One of my favorite games of all time was that woodshed whipping of Tennessee. KSU was ranked as high as #2 before losing to OU in Manhattan. The 3 point spread in the Big 12 Championship game was the closest game OU played that year. But they also had a four point win over A&M and a 5 point win over OSU.
