Title: Is saying something "doesn't seem kosher" offensive to Jews?
Post by: michigancat on June 22, 2007, 12:38:33 PM
We had to watch a harrassment video at work, and one of the scenarios included a boss saying "these numbers don't look Kosher to me."  Apparently, he can get cited for harrassment.

Is this really offensive to Jews?  I don't know any to ask.  Saulbadguy?

Just yesterday:

Plenty of you argued against any appearance of politics in your sports reading, which reminds me of people who don't like the different foods on their plate to touch one another (take a bow, Annie). Where do you draw that line? I made two baseball metaphors in the last paragraph of a college football column. Is that kosher? Wait a minute. That's a religious reference.

I don't find it offensive, I say it all the time. I also say "Man oh Manischewitz".

But, I could see where some whiny bitches would find it offensive.

The definition of workplace harrassment is if someone is offended by it.  So if someone is offended by the word "work," than they can legally claim harrassment.  Proving it may be a different matter.  Intent, figures of speech and context are irrelevant. Welcome to the world of PC, which is slowly destroying us.

It's a harmless statement, if anyone get ticked, just pull the stick from their anus.  It might be offensive, however, if you were to say it like this, "I don't think this looks Kosher."  And then offer the jew a porkchop.  That could get messy.

When we had to do the sexual harassment training at my office, they hit on something similar -- someone specifically asked "Is it sexual harassment if I tell my wife "I love you on the phone"?"  The PC answer was of course "If someone finds it offensive it is".

People got up in arms about the answer.  I lol'd.

To me, yes.  But I'd just think that you were stupid.  Nothing more.

atheists are closed-minded? when did this happen... i must have missed the meeting.

and saying bless you to an atheist shouldn't be offensive because it holds no weight. it can be accepted as everyday vernacular. there is not one atheist that was brought up in a christian run world that has stopped saying "holy @#%$" or "jesus christ" as an expression of excitement or what have you.

i wasn't there so I don't know.

but.

You can't expect an assload of content on a premium forum that's existed for that amount of time.  Especially in the offseason.  It's unrealistic.

I thought when the forum debuted that a "cannonball" type post would be ready to go. Nice recruiting update on dago pena though!

If they take offense to it, just tell them "get back to work" and when they complain further be sure to add "Arbeit Macht Frei".
