Nice article today Jeff, all except the part where you gave away that "thing that Prince knows about Auburn that none of us knows".  Now we all know, thanks to you.  Anything to sabotage Ron's efforts, right?  Seriously though, you outdid yourself for an article in June.

I'd say as long as a certain Associate AD continues to play Internet Gestapo, that the Cannonballs will be few, if maybe gone forever.

J-Mart better watch his back.

Crabtree knows of kids that go to camps, send film to rivals mostly, or when reputable high school or college coaches tell him.  What if a kid has a day that is not as good as usual at camp and that is rivals only exposure to him?  Of course he is going to get penalized for the one snap shot of his football abilities.  Plus, these kids are not in pads at the rivals camps.  There are tons of guys that can stand in shorts and a t shirt and throw a nice ball.  Put some kids running at him and make him actually think, then let's see how he grades out.  No pads on but judging linemen, LBs, and RBs sounds comical.  It is a system that worships the Christian Ballard's of the world but hurts the Danny Hogan's.

They deal usually with highlight videos, not multiple game videos also.  Even I would have been able to piece together 3-4 minutes of impressive plays from my high school football days, and I was nothing special.

Is it easy to find the elite kids in today's media/computer age since the guys with tons of offers usually will get the press.  Look at Danny Hogan, he was a severe academic risk and didn't go to a bunch of camps so he was a nobody to rivals.  Hogan has his film solicited to some colleges and boom...he has some BCS offers.  Guys like Hogan are out there, it is just harder to find them.

There will definitely be guys that live up to the 2 star billing as duds and there will be fellas that become absolute studs.

Sincerely,
Alex Smith

I agree with everything you said.  The rankings and stars are generally crap.  I've always thought so.  My problem with Crabtree is I think he is a two-faced hypocrit.  I used to think differently, but the evidence just keeps piling up.  I'm tired of it, only because I think it affects recruiting.  That's all, nothing more.

Seriously, I want a long-winded explanation that calls Crabtree more names and stuff.  I love that stuff.  Or is it premium?

Who is to say Crabtree isn't getting censored some?  Go check out the state of Kansas rankings on rivals for past years.  The guy has not exactly been money with his rankings.  Check this out.

2003
1-Barbo
2-Norwood
3-Randle
4-Jackson
5-Friess
Randle was the best player of that group and he couldn't stay out of trouble.  The rest of that group was not impressive.  Also from that year were:
6-McAnderson-solid FB for the beaks
7-Pauly-doesn't even start for Lubbick
10-Trey Brown-starting UCLA cornerback

2004 was even worse
1-Patton-everyone knew he was a team cancer that was stupid
2-Boss-played like a bearded taco
3-Wilson-He would be good if he could ever stay healthy
4-Brandenburg-decent Big 12 LB
5-Rivera-better than Brandenburg
6-Handy-human sized rolly polly but he was strong so that was neat to talk about
7-Spexarth-one of the reasons why Prince needed 3 JuCo tackles
12-Haverkamp-you think he messed up?  He is now starting at Georgia
15-Torain-one of the best RBs in the Pac 10

Good god he was terrible with that list.  How about this?  Joe Blaes was Boss teammate and was going to Georgia until they oversigned.  I am too lazy to look but wasn't Campbell in this group of kids or was it last year?  Either way, he missed on him.

It is kind of hard to judge the 2005 and more recent rankings but Crabtree does the JuCo rankings if I am not mistaken and there are countless misses in the JuCo rankings.  If Crabtree didn't have offer lists, he would be clueless.  Although, I would argue he is already clueless when doing most rankings.

There is a reason why Crabtree and guys like Farrell are tubs of blubber that sit behind computers working on the internet and real talent evaluators are working for football teams.

If you love that kind of stuff, it would have been worth your $10 this month.
