Title: Good Music
Post by: michigancat on January 27, 2006, 06:10:04 AM
Since i spend too much time worrying about Jim Wooldridge, I'm way behind on new music.

I got Sirius for Christmas, and I heard "Hide And Seek" by Imogen Heap, and I thought to myself, "Wow.  That's a great song and I've never heard anything like it before".

Then I got home and looked up "Imogen Heap" and I found out that the awesome new song I just heard was on the O.C. like six months ago, which automatically makes previously good music un-good.

I'm so behind the times.

Pick out some good music for me to steal from the Interweb thingy, please.

All I could ever suggest is popular crap that everybody knows and that which you get railed on if you like it. I guess it's not cool to like what's played on the radio anymore. You have to like that obscure stuff in order to be cool. I have no idea who Imogen Heap is so you must be much cooler than me. I probably get in trouble for liking sappy crap too much. It seems if you're a Kansas State fan you either like country or hard crap. Not a big fan of the metal, hard crap, but am a fan of country.

I guess I don't know what's obscure and what's not anymore.

My favorite sappy country song is "Just fell out of a Cottonwood Tree".  "Almost Home" or something like that.  I love country.  I was country when country wasn't cool.

I hate metal.

I can't even keep up on what's on the radio, because I have a short commute and usually listen to 810 when I drive.  You can suggest popular stuff.  I won't think you're any less cool than I did before.

I should add that I think most indie rock is overrated crap and that most "obscure" music threads end up with a bunch of crappy bands no one has heard of but are cool because no one has heard of them.  Every now and then I download some obscure music suggested in music threads, and I usually think it sucks.

The only good suggestion I've gotten is Sharon Jones.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I listen to 810 when I wake up and then either listen to country stations or 810 on my way to work which is also short. Plus, I so often just hear one song and that's the only song I'll ever hear. Like James Blunt's You're Beautiful. Never heard anything else from his album, but that song is played all of the time. Basically the only album I've heard lately that I really like is Coldplay's X&Y. I've liked everything they've put out though. Like Jack Johnson as well (SPC  :forked:), but I liked Jack before anybody had ever heard of him. Kind of surprised the band Guster has never made it bigger. I mainly listen to country though anymore.

I like "the killers"

This is why engineers can't talk about really cool things with other engineers.

I think SPC is pretty cool. He can help out imo.

But aren't the killers considered cool? I really like them.

I'm not sure.  This board needs more cool people.

Fast.

Funny you should mention Imogen Heap, I just got that album a few nights ago because of that same song.  And I also just recently got Java's suggestion James Blunt.

Everything I've added to my music collection in the last month (http://spc.servebeer.com/pdf/spc-this-month.pdf).

Warning: much of it is my girlfriend's, so um, yeah I don't listen to NSYNC, or Gwen Stefani...   :shy:

Warning #2:  I've done a lot of re-ripping my existing CDs, so you'll see alot of stuff in there and go "wow, he just got that?"  :shy: :shy:

I've downloaded some more Imogen Heap, and I can't stop listening.
