So, do we count that towards Prince's recruiting expertise?  From what I understand OU opted out on him due to their view that he wouldn't qualify... Scary smart?

Also, some (anonymous) coach commented that an "NCAA investigation should begin immediately" during James Johnson's recruitment.  This is a definite strength.

Let's be honest with ourselves.  If a kid, with questionable study skills, winds up at KSU and contributes, why should we worry?  If not here, he would have ended up somewhere else.  Every team in the top twenty-five last year had comparable players (grades wise) as Johnson/Patterson/etc; is KSU too good to play, status quo?  Yes, the price to play is heavy, but if everyone else is doing it, then how can it be wrong?  Morals and ethics don't win sporting events, players do.  I certainly wish that we could compete with a team of entirely instate kids with college GPAs of 4.0, but I don't live in a fantasy world.  So long as what we do is above NCAA limits, I say bring on the players.

Sorry, wasn't disagreeing with you.  Just adding to your post.  (Is that how you spell "disagreeing?"  seems like too many vowels in a row.)  And I just noticed you spelled it the same way, now I don't feel quite so illiterate.

I really didn't think this would happen.  Simmons Patterson is the next great K-State linebacker.  Fantastic.

Patterson > Simmons

Simmons didn't have a catchy nickname.

Where was this story at? Has he gone through the clearinghouse yet? That's usually where a lot of these JUCOs run into trouble. It looks like they're qualified but in reality they haven't gone through the NCAA.

It happened with Tyrell Spain at Nebraska two years ago. He was on campus and went through the summer of workouts and then when fall came around he ended up not getting through the clearinghouse. Last year Purify missed almost the first two weeks of practice waiting for them to get to him. With Patterson having gone to multiple schools, that might complicate the issue if he hasn't been through the clearinghouse yet.

what's this "clearinghouse" you speak of?

You can win a TON of money.  Don't get suckered in to thinking you have a better chance of winning if you buy magazine subscriptions either because the odds are the same.  If some old bastard shows up at your trailer park with about 3 balloons and an oversized novelty check for eleventy-billion dollars just open the door to your trailer and start screaming like you came in first at league bowling night down at the bowl & wash.

The NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse is the organization that handles all inquiries regarding an individual's initial eligibility status. Basically they go through each class a student-athlete has ever taken in either HS or college with a fine toothed-comb. They use a complicated formula of classroom grades and ACT college entrance exam scores to determine whether athletes are eligible to play on the Division I level. Plenty of kids that are on the fringe of qualifying each year are denied eligibility when something doesn't register through the clearinghouse. For Spain it was some class that went clear back to his high school.

The good news on Patterson is that the NCAA went through his transcripts less than a year ago before they said he couldn't go to OU. So, his case is not new to them.

The clearinghouse also held out James Johnson last year until after practices were well under way. It was starting to look like he wouldn't make it.
