Title: Anybody ever try and make their own "Chipotle" burrito?
Post by: ksuno1stunner on May 31, 2007, 02:09:21 AM
The Kat Kid thread has me craving for one.  I'm too broke to spend that much money though.  Like I could probably find some instant-rice, corn salsa, sour cream, cheese, and tortilla easily (no crap), but is there some microwavable chicken that might taste similar?  Going to "Dillons" tomorrow.  Will post results.

You're going to end up spending more money on the food to make the burrito than you would on a real one at Chipotle. But to answer your question, yes I have made my own Chipotle burrito. It just isn't the same though..

in their rice they put cilantro and lime juice, and it's not instant rice but if you can cook that dry enough you can get it close to theirs
they put a chili rub on their chicken breasts and grill the bastards, not too tough but theirs is usually really moist which would be hard
their sauce? forget about it, at this point you've already spent +$10

The secret to the meat is to find a Mexican that can cook it for you.

That's what I love about you MJ. You're absolutely the worst smack talker I've ever seen but bless your little heart you just keep trying anyway.

I figure everything might cost $15 bucks or so, but I could probably get a good 6 burritos out of it.  I'm not trying to make it exactly like how they do, just get something that might taste similar.  &@#% it, I'll give it a shot.

Positives:
Didn't taste too bad.

Negatives:
Didn't realize Chipotle burritos cost $6 here.  Dollar cheaper.  And I wasted some money during my trials.  Bummer.

My pizza bagel experiment was successful though!

some snack recipes I'll share:

Pizza rolls

Buy these things:
Dillons small white bread rolls (under a dollar)
fresh mozz- in the little bag, it is squishy
red pepper shaker
oregano
olive oil
pepperoni

make a bowl with olive oil, red pepper, oregano all mixed up
cut the little rolls in half
spread a lot of fresh mozz around in there
add pepperoni
roll the roll around in the bowl until it is dripping
put on a cookie sheet with 6-8 friends
put in oven
await crispy goodness with creamy pepperoni insides
