Title: LOL at KSU Baseball . . .
Post by: sonofdaxjones on May 29, 2007, 05:08:10 PM
still the only Big 12 Baseball program to have never played in the NCAA Baseball Championship Tournament.   The only other Big 12 school to not have a team participate in the NCAA Baseball Championship Tourney . . . Colorado, which dropped baseball 20 years ago.   Even ISU who has dropped baseball has been in the NCAA Baseball Tourney.

LOL @ Fitz who thought KSU might be on the bubble this year.

I think KSU needs to dump baseball and either start a wrestling program, or a men's soccer program.  Because it's quite clear that KSU baseball is NEVER going to do anything.

We just need to hire the Bill Snyder of baseball.  I was hoping we could find a way in this season but alas we still suck.

go for the wrestling team. i wrestle in high school and there is SO MUCH talent in kansas, and they all end up going to missouri or ok state. that would be awesome.

Just fire the AD Mr Weiser. We suck at every sport so shouldn't this be obvious?

I agree.  We should drop baseball.  It's boring as &@#%.

Except when we piss off the nubbs.  Then it's highly entertaining.  But otherwise, really, who pays attention to it?  The only reason it has a following at all is because it's in the offseason.

False. Me and Saul both like the baseball team. However, if we do add a sport it should be wrestling and then we should add softball to stay with Title IX. Kansas is loaded with wrestling and softball talent and yet we don't have either sport..

Only if a guy can be in charge of recruiting the softball 'talent.'  I want a team full of girls that look like Stacey Spiegelberg.

Hate to tell you, but you won't find many softball players that look like Stacy Spiegelberg. You find girls like her in soccer, track (pole vaulting), swimming, gymnastics, and volleyball more often than anywhere else..

Then we should implement all those programs first and foremost.

We should immediately start a lacrosse team.  It's a spring sport and think how many B12 championships we could win before anybody else caught on.

Lacrosse is probably the second most expensive sport to have next to football. I think Lacrosse teams have about fifty players on them.

How many players are on a rugby team?

How many players are on a rugby team?

i think that depends on what type of rugby we are talking about.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_football#Rules

"The main differences between the two games, besides league having teams of 13 players and union of 15, involve the tackle and its aftermath"

"A rugby union team consists of 15 players: eight forwards, numbered 1 to 8, and seven backs, numbered 9 to 15[1]. Depending upon the competition, there may be up to seven replacements (substitutes or reserves)."

so i guess 22 total players for regular rugby, or union rugby as it is also apparently called.

We are doing a lot better.  About 6-8 years ago we lost to Sterling College, a KCAC school of less than 500 students.

Allowable scholarships by the NCAA = 12.6 (baseball 11.7)

10 play at any one time

NCAA doesn't appear to limit roster

49 players on roster at Johns Hopkins - '07 NCAA champs (34 on KSU baseball roster)

JH played 13 games in reg. season - but travel to find games would be more expensive than baseball.

Cost differences with baseball would likely be neutral.

Where would they play, the Old Stadium?

Yes. Last time i checked that's what the old stadium was, a soccer field.  i'm really not into the soccer idea though...not a fan.  wrestling is a good idea, but u have to realize, for the first few years we will get absolutely ROCKED by the likes of ok state, missouri, and iowa state. but once we can start nabbing all the in-state talent, i think we can compete pretty well.  just think, if we had a wrestling team in the late 90s early 00s, we could've had zach roberson (from Blue Vally Northwest), one of the most dominating wrestlers in the history of college wrestling....but no, iowa freaking state enjoyed his success.

What would the club teams be able to use then? And the Old Stadium is far from being usable for an actual sport IMO.

When Tim hired this gem from Central Missouri State I was confident we had a sure fire winner.  CMSU, home of D-2 Champions for Christ sakes!!!!

Where did it all go wrong, Timmy?

No we didn't. We lost in the second round of the NIT. We folded in the end of every sport this year.

We have a "club" team so basically the same level of play as the ultimate frisbee "club". A few of my friends are on it.

Exactly . . . and that coach didn't have 1/3 the stuff to work with than Hill does.   Of course when you brought that up the Tards immediately started pointing out Texas and A&M . . . and quite frankly the only thing those schools have that KSU doesn't is more seats, otherwise KSU has nice offices, a nice clubhouse, a nice baseball only weightroom, and an indoor workout facility that's had $500K worth of overhauls done to it since Hill has gotten to KSU.

I was in that position once.  Numerous rounds of antibiotics, physical and psychological therapy later, I still have side effects.  Least she wasn't a cop...
