do any of you think it's possible we want this kid as a 2? I was watching the new highlights that came out fairly recent and he appears to have some range on his shot and I was amazed at how well he dribble drives. The kid has great acceleration w/ the ball driving to the hoop for such a tall, slender dude.
thoughts?
Maybe he's just a 3 who could possibly be developing into a player who could play the 2?
I apologize in advance for me low BBIQ.

Streaks on the china, never mattered before, who cares.
When you dropped kicked your jacket
As you came through the door, No one glared.
But sometimes things get turned around and no one's spared.
All hands look out below, there's a change in the status quo.
Gonna need all the help that we can get.
According to our new arrival life is more than mere survival
We just might live the good life yet.

I'm all for having 3's (and 4's, and 5's for that matter) with range and ball handling ability. The question is who he can defend.
-
We're probably taking about anyone we can get at this point. It's really no different than football.
-
I've actually considered the possibility that they want him for a 1. There is a chance that they see him as a Penny Hardaway type of player. His AAU team is stacked with frontcourt talent and Witherspoon occasionally runs the point. Here's a excerpt from a rivals article:
Wesley Witherspoon might be the second best long term prospect on the Stars roster. The 6-foot-8 point forward is very skilled for his position. His ball-handling skills are point guard like as are some of his passes both in the half court and in transition.
There were times when Witherspoon manned the point to go along with the towering front line. He looked comfortable at the position and could very well man that spot this spring. The Berkmar High School product has a number of schools on him already and is holding a good amount of offers to date. He spoke highly of the opportunity of playing with his brother Wynton at George Washington.

It might be a somewhat of a longshot, but it's interesting to think about. Don't be so hard on your BBIQ.

I should add that if we think there's any chance we would use him at the 2 and think it might help if WW thinks we will, we need to sell it like crazy.
-
So basically he's the next Ju-Ju. :peek:
-
there is basically nothing better than a 2 that can handle the ball well enough to be called a 1 and is long enough to be called a 3.

One w/ the strength/skill to play the 4?
-
thanks yosh. That seems to make sense as far as the point forward tag. He looked so comfortable and natural driving to the basket in a few of those videos..much moreso than most of the classified 3's appear in the vids.
The Penny Hardaway idea is intriguing and let's hope Frank Martin adds a Neon Bodeaux too.

be easy?

He's more of a 2-5.

ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS WOULD BE SOLVED IF WE JUST WENT OUT AND RECRUITED FIVE MICHAEL JORDANS.

I don't know. Will all of his shots be layups?

way too many 2's
we need a 1

i'm guessing 9 of 10 powertards would prefer a roster made entirely of 1s and 5s.

The other thing that adds to my theory is that we don't seem to be going after any PGs even though we lose 2. My current fantasy line-up for 08-09 is:
1. Witherspoon-Pullen
2. Sutton-Shipman
3. Walker-Dubovitzsky
4. Beasley-Samuels
5. Kadji-Colon
A guy can dream can't he?...

Both Beasley and Walker back in 08-09 = not good things for 07-08 IMO*.

This is in contrast to GPC West's notion of an ideal team consisting only of 3s.

3. Walker-Dubovitzsky (wtf?)
4. Beasley-Samuels
5. Kadji-Colon
hmm..Samuels doesn't strike me as a 4. More like a 3.25 or possibly even 3.33
-
No video exists for Brown, but the coaches might consider him a 1. Or, they might subscribe to Rusty's "bigs" and "smalls" positions theory.

His coach said he played PG most of the time this year.

Dubo is still a possibility per the Star and Eagle. Slim possibility I'm sure, but I put him in there anyway. Samuels, according to everything I have read, is an undersized 4. He's a monster rebounder...he'll need some time in the weight room, but he's definitely a lot more comfortable in the paint than out on the perimeter.

meh...all the Florida players came back for this year. You never know.
