I know a lot of those bullet points are fluff, but the "long and athletic and loves to play basketball" and "brings a lot of enthusiasm and energy" for Samuels is about as fluff as I've seen. Give us some more statistics or compare him to Jeff Greene or something.

pullen - #7 player in state of illinois, first team all conference and all area (chicago, not fuggin tulsa)
brown - #13 player in florida (not ivory coast), all county and area (southeast florida, not minnesota)
samuels - dc assault.

Named the Tulsa World’s state Player of the Year as well as to the Class 6A All-State team... Also selected as the OBCA (Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association) state Player of the Year and the Frontier Conference Player of the Year

I guess you missed the part where Clent was the Oklahoma HS POY and 6A MVP his SR season. 2nd best player in OK according to rivals. The one you quoted was from his JR season.
If you want to bash Clent go ahead, but don't make stuff up. :)

Very true. And getting Wright wasn't too bad either. I think Taybron would've contributed had he not got the boot as well, he came on pretty decent at the end of his JR year. If we had Taybron I would assume no Maybank, which might not have been a bad trade.

and for comparison purposes, some of the information about brown/pullen/samuels is also junior.

hey, dipshi t, that covered more than a lame duck year. not to mention that if wooldridge made the tourney, which was a legit possibility, it wouldn't have been a lame duck year. it was only lame duck in retrospect after wooldridge pissed away a a team with post season abilities.

honestly, just going to fast. i saw the stuff from rivals and hoopmasters in the middle and started there.
point stands that the talent pool in chicago is generally going to be much tougher than the talent pool in oklahoma. and much more consistent.

pullen and stewart had nearly identical ratings from rivals in the sg category. looking at that, and knowing that pullen likely came from significantly better competition....
i just think there's always risk taking big fish from smaller talent pools. doesn't mean it shouldn't be done, it's just risky.

Again, I can see that. I do think 6A basketball in OK is pretty decent though. Probably pretty close to Chicago overall. And I think its clear that Stew was really well coached in HS, came in with pretty solid court sense that helped him transition pretty smooth his FR year.
That's the thing I'm not sure of with Pullen, from the video I watched he and his teammates had a lot of freedom. Sometimes that translates well to D1, sometimes not. I think Pullen might need some development, I see him being a lot closer to Blake Young skill-wise than Clent.

Chicago is only two and a half times as big. There's really not that much difference. For example, living in Manhattan isn't really any different from living in Topeka.

Chicago does produce more D1 players annually. And the top player in Chicago is usually a Top 20 guy. No question there is a bigger talent pool there.
I do think the Top 1 or 2 players in OK are usually pretty solid D1 prospects most years though. That's really all I was trying to imply. And this year the talent pool in OK was particularly poor.

barros flaked after his father died or started dying or whatever it was. carlos morias spent a year at that atlanta hs/prep before he was supposed to come here. he signed pro in africa instead.

i agree, and that was my point. in oklahoma the top couple players are usually good. in chicago, there's always elite players, and more of 'em.

good old carlos. he was savior #27 of the wooldridge era.
i was so desperate for a good team it took me until the final two years to fully realize what a complete circus he was running.

Moriaras was a legit player rivals had him top 100. Never even ended up signing though signed a pro contract before signing period started. The other African guys Cisse, Barros and of course Afeli were not big 12 caliber players. Barros was touted as a point guard but once he showed up he was just more of an underzied 2 guard. Wooly was running a real circus towards the end the kid from France the volleyball player I don't think he ever really planned on coming to KSU. He had some talent but it was raw and at the time it was just as easy if not easier to make the NBA out of the French pro leagues then it was playing college ball. He just had no incentive to come here and play when he could stay home and make money playing and still have a good shot at getting drafted.

Thought I remember reading an article earlier this last season where Hoskins said he had no idea Woolridge was on the hot seat. Not sure if it speaks more to Woolridge's salesmanship abilities or Hoskins' lack of research on the situation.

He was an early signee, so he committed before the 04-05 season. I guess JW wasn't really on the hot seat until that season was over.
