Oh, shucks...
-
Bennett leaving really does suck. I don't care what the haters say.

I'd care more if I didn't hear from all my friends that he was always down at tubbys in the ville sitting around smoking ciggs. Sounds like he wasn't too concerned w/his schoolwork either.
I won't be missing him...he was 7'3" great.

Agree about Bennett. But what can you do?

I know. People that talk crap on him are just misguided souls.
-
We lost our head coach. We could be losing Bill Walker right now.
-
I was still holding out hope for Bennett. I hope there is some merit to the Gilchrist rumbilings.
-
I won't hate on Bennett, but Bennett's impact so "after the fact" (for lack of a better phrase) that I'm kind of indifferent.
And why wasn't Oppenheimer mentioned?
-
this guy is still on the team.
in conference play (9 games):
0-3 tips, layups and dunks
1-2 2pt attempts
7 rebounds
11 personal fouls

Only 2 TO. That's why he played.

if i was on the court i would have had 0 turnovers.
when you suck so bad you're not an option.....it's not hard to avoid turnovers.
colon, for all his struggles, had damn near the same a/to ratio in conference play. and for overall season stats, colon had a much better ratio.
every minute kent was on the floor was one minute one of our good players wasn't developing.

Point is, he sucked and his grades sucked...maybe he should of been working on trying to catch a basketball or mabye learning something while he was getting his education paid for.

He was a freshman playing center in the B12. Tough to do. Russell's stats prove that he was an effective contributor while on the court.
He was a freshman student at KSU. Tough to do. A lot of freshman's grades suck.
Point is that you get better at both over time. With him leaving we will never see that happen.
Hope that helps. :jerkoff:

Colon?

Colon?
relative to kent? clearly.
using your a/to arguement, travis canby was a basketball god his freshman year.
how did that crap work out?
-
I'll believe the excuse for him sucking in basketball was because he was a freshman. But I won't buy the "his grades suck because he is a freshman" arguement.
Why piss and moan about him...he doesn't want to be here!
I'll take Jamar S. over him for now.
-
Yes, clearly Kent's 4.6 minutes per game in 9 games (and if you average that out over 16 games that's 2.6 mpg) altered the development of Colon/Bennett.
-

I would have liked for Colon to play more, too, but he had injury problems (Texas and others) and obvious attitude problems. He just didn't have enough mental stability or endurance to play 15 minutes a game.
-
i hate to see him go.
best of luck JB.

On Bennett's grades....
B/c athletes (and many students) struggle their first semester with grades, the NCAA doesn't start monitoring their progress toward APR standings (both in credit hours toward a degree, and minimum GPA) until after their freshman year. By that point they have to have passed at least 24 credit hours toward a degree with at least a 1.8 GPA. So that is why we are not releasing him, but pointed out in the article that he can still go to another institution and bring his grades up to a point where he doesn't hurt us with our APR standings.
-
Bennett thought he was NBA ready material before he ever stepped on K-State’s campus, and he never bought in to the idea of hard work. He will most probably eventually develop into a reasonably good college center but unless he lights a fire under his a$$ he will never sniff the pros. I just hope he doesn’t screw up KSU’s APR...

what injury and attitude problems allow him to play 10 mins per game, but not 15?
just admit that kent and canby ran a train on your ass, and that's why you're pimping to stats.
Yes, clearly Kent's 4.6 minutes per game in 9 games (and if you average that out over 16 games that's 2.6 mpg) altered the development of Colon/Bennett.
i saw colon improve during the season. a 50% increase in playing time would not have hurt.

He didn't leave so they could put Kent in. Both he and Bennett left and were replaced when they started dragging ass. The sad thing is sometimes Colon would go out when he was dragging and JB would come in and drag ass even more. Not just bad playing, but I mean lazy ass dragging.

I am going to miss having the tallest cheerleader in NCAA history on our MBB bench.
Good Lucky JB

The increase would have only been about 28% when you average minutes over a 16 game period. Essentially what you're saying is that the 2.6 minutes that Kent got instead of Colon makes all the difference?

Bennett is kind of screwing himself if he transfers to a D-1 school and has to sit out a year. I'm not sure he can afford to lose a year with how much he would need to develop to play professionally. On top of that he now has to pay for his education. Judging by his attitude and work ethic, I'd say this kid is a hell of a long shot. I get the feeling he thought that being 7'3" and being able to dominate easily in high school made him think he didn't need to work that hard or he's never bought into working hard because he hasn't had to. I think he's making a mistake if he still wants to play in the NBA. He should have stayed but I guess he really doesn't want to be up here. Would have liked to have kept him but good luck to him.
-
I get the impression the coaches were on him all year because I don't think he really knows how to work hard. It has all come easy to him to this point. Yes, he thinks he's better than he is and likely blames the coaches for not running any offense through him so he could showcase what he could do...again, I think that is his mindset. He probably blames the coaches. Otherwise, he would realize that what he really needs to do is get his butt in the gym and workout extremely hard this off season and come back significantly stronger in his lower body. Also, a drop step and a jump hook going both ways would help. At this point, I was just hoping someone (maybe his parents?) would actually see where he was in development and be able to get through to him that his best option was what I described, not going back closer to Fl to hang out with his cheerleading homies and either go to school while his folks paid for it, or go to some JuCo where he could again dominate because of size and not really develop. Sorry to see he didn't choose the mature and work attitude.

never said all the difference, but yes, more pt generally helps freshman develop. this aint rocket science.
and over the course of the season, you're talking about 200 minutes, or five full games. and yes, that is significant.

Colon did improve over the season, and I think he will make big strides this summer if he continues to buy into the conditioning program. As Al Maguire used to say: “the best thing about freshman is that they become sophomores”...

Man, I just didn't see it. I thought he was awful at the end of the year. The Ok St. game was the worst thing I have ever seen from a K-State basketball player. If anything, he got worse. He only averaged 2 mins a game over the last month, yet he still managed to stand out as somebody who didn't belong on the court. I hope he improves the way Manny Dies did over his career, but I didn't see it at all this year. Luis Colon looked hopeless at the end of the season. Hopeless.

The last month we went small. He was our only center that was semi reliable and so it was easier to start small than to put him in as a starter and the switch to going with guards and forwards.

Maybe I'm just way off base. I truly thought Colon was completely terrible this season. I'm a little suprised that there are so many who thought otherwise. I wish I was one of the U-tube gurus. I'd make a vid of Colon's 4 mins versus Ok-st. Futility defined.
-
yosh, we're discussing colon relative to kent.
in conference play (9 games):
0-3 tips, layups and dunks
1-2 2pt attempts
7 rebounds
11 personal fouls
that's futility defined, and over nine games, not a short stretch vs. the pokes.
