Gilchrist is the real news.
Granted, it would give us a roster of 11 guys that can't shoot, but I'll take any top 100 player I can get.
-
I hope somebody learns how to shoot over the Summer.
-
If there's one thing we will struggle with next year it won't be shooting.

How do you figure? I mean we'll be good in close, but we don't have a sniper from behind the arc. It will leave us vulnerable.

something we dont know about ...and lol at scouts recruiting info

Gilchrist doesn't seem like a strong possibility.
Some of the things they say and he says in here don't seem to fit that theory.

Man we're going to have an awesome front court.
Hoskins - great
Beasley - amazing
Walker - amazing
Sutton - great
(possibility)Gilchrist - great
Colon
Kent
Too bad our guards don't match that
Stew - shooter(and therefore our most valuable guard by default)
Blake - not so much
Pullen - Drives (but who needs to drive when you've got our frontcourt?)
Brown - ..Don't really know
...Now if only one of the four could be a good distributor to that amazing frontcourt.

I tend to agree. I understand the speculation due to the Hill/DC/Assault connection, but everything I've read says he is probably going prep next season and has yet to ask for a release from Tech. At this point, our coaches can't even talk to him directly. I supposed it could happen, but not in time for tomorrow's presser.

i'm not sure why i find it so much easier to believe the bad news than the good in that post.
if both are true, not a bad trade. hurts ksu next year, but goes a long way in easing the '08-'09 dropoff. also, adds to the kstate assault argument.

We REALLY need a shooter.

we won't have any trouble shooting the ball next year, it's pretty simple. vulnerable to what?

Zoning inside and closing down the paint. Of course we will still score, but if we had a shooter it could draw a guy or two to pick them up and let Beasley, Sutton, Walker, Hoskins, Sammuels have some extra room to work with. Kind of like that guy McMilsomething did for Melo.
-
I just looked at the top 150 looking for uncommitted players, and was reminded that we have the #1 player in the country coming to ksu.

Meh, this isn't a Rec game.
FWIW McNamara shot .357 beyond the arc during Melo's year at Syracuse (with Melo + Warrick in the paint), last season Clint shot .364 with little help from Hoskins drawing defenders onto the block.

i have it on good authority that you don't really need a good shooter to do that. just a guy that hits in the upper 30% range.

Exactly, and Walker, and Sutton, and Pullen, and Brown (my sleeper pick) and a returning Hoskins, and Clint Rainman Stewart, and etc etc etc.
Quit f'n forgetting how talented we're going to be people, you can't "double team" our starting 5...
-
I would just zone the hell out of us.

But you can camp out in the paint. I know we'll still score, and we'll still win games, but I think we could use a shooter if we hope to be final 4 or beyond.

Yeah, unless we can get a 2nd player to shoot 35%+ from 3. Then we'll be insane.
-
suck it f'ers. what did i say, about three days later fitz would confirm?

that worked for Wooly when we played teams who had superior talent. the zone is the answer to all of basketball's problems.
-
Clent is a decent shooter. Maybe Young will be able to shoot like he did in Juco now if we are able to put him at SG. We have no idea on Brown. Pullen is supposed to be able to shoot, right? Walker is definitely improving his shot and Beasley has sick range. I think (hope) we will be alright. It would have just been nice to have had V-Dub who we know can shoot.
-

Wow, nice work. Hey next time you get a great scoop I'll be sure to show you my appreciation before you tell us f'ers to suck it. Jackass.
:nutkick:

They're not going to be able to zone us. They're not fast enough to get back and set in the zone before we'll score.

We sucked when we played man2man under wooly as well. what's your point? Would you rather play zone against KSU next year or try to go man2man?
-

They're?? It depends which "they" we mean. Missouri no, Colorado not even close, Kansas &@#% no, but maybe a Florida w/ PP and Lucas, or an Oregon, or a top 5 team in the tourney.
-
no one in the country can keep up with stewie when he's got the pedal to the floor.

My point is that there is a misconception that says teams with less talent on the floor simply can zone their way to a Wildcat victory.
If the answer to beating a team with more talent was to simply zone the hell out of them, we'd be well on our way to our 20th consecutive National Championship. You zone around certain mismatches, not the interchangeable parts of Beasley, Walker, Hoskins, and Sutton, at that point you're better off in man, the zoned team will just make you look stupid.

I love internet message board leaps of logic.

congrats you post something that noone had heard of...then you add no facts or hindsight into why or how. WTF you think we are going to do, worship you?
BTW I haven't heard jack crap officially yet.

Leap of logic? What part of my explaination confused you?
-
not that either rumor is false, but this post is weird.
1. fitz going around giving away information he could sell on his site.
2. fitz not teasing paying customers with information he claims to know for the last several days.
3. some guy references fitz on the scout board as his source.
4. fitz knows who gus gilchrist is.
none of the above is terribly logical/plausible.
-
Heiar can see the KSU pipeline closing.

A zone reduces the talent gap by not allowing for one-on-one play. It is typically beaten by a combination of good spacing, good ball movement, and/or penetration. In most instances, it relies on good passing that forces the zone to move quickly, or by penetration and good dump down or kick out passing. There are few lanes in which to penetrate or pass within 15 feet of the basket if the entire zone collapses and doesn't respect the ability of the other team to hit the outside shot. You can still beat a zone without this, it is just alot tougher against a team that has somewhat similar physical talent. That being said, Beasley can shoot the 3, Walker supposedly is developing his 3, Stewart has a decent 3, and we don't know about the rest. We don't want to rely on Beasley and Walker to try to shoot out the zones, because most teams we face would rather have them away from the basket than inside. Ideally, a dangerous 3 pt shooter (Stew is decent, but not dangerous), with Stewart on the other side, would force to teams to jump out quickly and allow Beasley and Walker to crash the boards with Hoskins. Then we become extremely difficult to guard.
-
For some reason it appears the Fat man has his balls in a vice on this one. Who knows why he's playing coy, but for some reason he won't talk about V-Dub no matter how many people ask him to elaborate on the situation publicly.
