Honestly.

Blake could score a lot in the juco ranks.  It didn't translate to D-1 because of the obvious huge difference in talent.  This Andre guy couldn't even do that.

Blake Young was like an All-American or something.  Based on their juco resume, this guy has to be the worst, by far.  I think Tim Ellis probably comes close.  He barely averaged double figures, IIRC.

If he's the next tim ellis, hell f-ing yes.

tim ellis was fairly highly recruited.  and was at prob. the #1 juco at that time.  easier to start at a d1 than at southern idaho in those days.

was dinkins a juco?  what about hubert from the early asbury days?  he had big stats, but from a d2 juco.

No that honor goes to Dax Jones his stats were poor at Cloud County and I saw him play in high school and he was't even good at that level.  Gilbert is fairly well regarded despite not having much in the way of stats.

None of us can tell until he laces them up. This guy has my interest.

If he's not the 3 shooter then I am really curious about his special skills.

Keep an eye on his D,energy and rebounding. ;)

6-7" Fred Peete?

The kid may turn out to be a good player.  Who knows?  Let’s wait and see and give him a chance.

As far as Young, he was injured last year and only got up to speed at the end of the year.  And he played pretty well in a couple games at the end of the year.  And I think he will have a solid senior year.  So get off of his a$$ too!

1)  I think Ellis' second best offer was Wichita State.
2)  True, CSI was ridiculously good back then.

Geez, read the report.  He's a long, athletic wingman who can play multiple positions...read defense, energy and depth.   Oh, and his coach says he is a good character young man so we're probably bringing him in to help mentor other young people in the area.

I'm still waiting for a D-1 coach to recruit a player whose only role on the team is to be the closer. Go out and find the Elks free throw shooting hot shot, one of those guys that does nothing but practice free throws and knocks them in at 97 percent.

Up by three w/ 0:20 left and possession? Bring in the closer. Hell, he can come out to "Enter Sandman" if he wants to. And don't tell me the pressure would be any more intense playing in front of 13,000 fans than it is the pushy over-protective dad who has his son in the office pool. :)

good heavens, that would far exceed any expectations.  if that's what he is, i'll do a fuggin dance.

crap, need to re-work your number crunching.  ellis avg'd 14 his senior year.

other than dax, i'd toss ivan sulic and richie terry in the mix.

Didn't this guy miss a bunch of the season due to injury and when he did come back he played most of the season with his shoulder in a big brace??  Didn't he score like 22 points in the first game he played without that brace??

Tim Ellis
Guard
6-3, 180
Seattle, Wash. / College of Southern Idaho
An explosive athlete on the perimeter and a solid defender at the off-guard or small forward positions ... Named to the Region 18 All-Tournament team ... Averaged 16.1 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.3 steals last season ... Finished 10th in the Scenic West Athletic Conference in scoring, eighth in rebounding and third in steals ... Also shot 54.0 percent from the floor ... Helped lead the Golden Eagle to a 26-6 record and a berth in the 2002 NJCAA Tournament ... Averaged 18.0 points and 3.0 assists in two postseason contests ... Coached by Guy Beach at College of Southern Idaho.

Ellis wasn't a bad recruit.  He probably would've been in a jucojunction Top 100 if they had one back then.

Guys like Dinkins and Hubert were much worse recruits IMO than Ellis, and probably worse than Gilbert, but not by much.  And Richie Terry was a JUCO recruit (Jacksonville, JC) also, FWIW.

Wow, I was way off.  I thought he was like the third best prospect out of CSI that year.

Ellis was a very good get.  He was in that string of solid JUCO pick-ups, not all of which panned out.  Reid, Sei, Pasco, DeJesus, Spurlock, Richards, Ellis, and Hart were all decently touted JUCO recruits, all in Wooly's first few years.  Those were the guys that hoopscoop kept promising us would lead us to an upper division finish, along with Hayden, Martin, Willingham.
