Eduardo Galvo from Sao Paulo Brazil. Why do we even bother?
(and please don't come back with Diarra or the Brazilian 3 point shooter from the Wooly era)

Gilson would have been much better for this team than VD, so I can use him.

Gilson
gilson as a senior, yes. gilson as a junior, not so much. he didn't suck his junior year, but was dramatically better his senior.

He still shot 37% from 3 his jr. year. That's exactly what we need.

and barely 40% from 2pt. and 3 boards.
i don't think 37% is enough to make defenses shift from beas/walker/hoskins down low. it's gotta be 40+.

a) You're wrong on the 37%. 37% is more than adequate.
b) VD didn't shoot 37% at Juco this season. Why would we expect him to do better in D1?

on a), if that's true, then we have the answer in stewie.
on b), i never said vd would shoot better than 37%. i said we need better than gdj his junior year.
by the way, did you see the part about gdj's horrid 2pt shooting and rebounding?

Two guys shooting 37% is enough. One guy shooting 37% is not. Heck, one guy shooting 40% probably isn't enough to create problems for defenses.
I don't care if our 2 guard doesn't shoot 2's or get rebounds. Just extend the &@#%ing defense with a jump shot.

you're honestly going to tell me that if you're a coach, you would shift your defensive focus away from beasley/walker to cover a 37% shooter?
wow. you must not think much of beasley and walker. or hoskins for that matter.

No, I'm saying a single 37% 3 point shooter is little to nothing to worry about. Two 37% shooters require attention.

that's a dodge.
only one guy has the ball. if he's a 37% shooter from downtown, do you let him shoot, or extend?
he's coming off a screen, you choose between defending the paint, or defending the shot.

No, that's not a dodge at all. You're just oversimplifying. Your scenario is far too vague and ridiculous to make an intelligent decision. You have to take consideration all 10 players on the court. We aren't playing 2 on 2 here.

FWIW...
3pt % 06-07 (conf)
CM - 43%
LH - 34%
CS - 41%

1st, I think at least one guy will hit 40%. No reason to believe Stew won't hit 40% again, if he stays healthy.
2nd, if Gilson was playing opposite Beasley and Walker (and Hos) instead of Pasco and Sei he probably hits 40% or better.
V-Dub sounds like a somewhat similar player to Gilson and similarly ranked. I hope he makes it, IMO he and Clint give us a solid pair to threaten from beyond the arc. Then if Young, Brown, or Pullen can step in we're in decent shape.

de jesus would have been incredible if ksu had had 3 other guys defenses had to defend.
any coach that leaves a 37% shooter open is going to lose a lot of games.

especially since that 37% is from threes that someone was probably near him, IMO we'll get a lot more open looks with walker and the beas down low. could make a 37% shooter into a 40+ if he's getting open threes all day
