Title: Quality Depth
Post by: JesusShuttlesworth on May 07, 2007, 03:25:45 PM
In looking at what our roster will potentially be composed of next season, it occurred to me that we will not only have some of the best talent we've ever had,...

but that we will also have quality depth at nearly every position for the first time in ........

..... about 20 years?  Wow.

30.
But we're still weak at PG since Clent is too busy doing you know what with you know who to really give a &@#% about hoops anymore.

our backups next year would be starters on many of our teams for the past 15 years.

I know Clent is not 5 star, but he was one of our most consistantly solid players last year.  From the NU home game on he really was never the reason we lost a game and gave quality minutes whenever he was on the floor.  I think we'll be fine for point.

I agree.  Clent hit some big shots and did an adequate job of running the point.  He will be a rather large part of how far KSU goes next year.

Last year, we needed a more creative offensive presence from the PG position but Clent isn't that person.  He did, however, do a much better job than anyone else at setting up the offense.  This year, there will be so much more offensive talent around him, that if he can just take care of a great percentage of the ball handling, and get us into our offense, and hit an occasional wide open 3, he will be fine.

He needs to lead more than score, and he can do that.  I also think Pullen and Young will make good backups by conference time.

Clent will be the perfect pg for this team next year. He's a senior, he's been through the big 12, and he's a solid pg. Never been anything flashy, never will be. What this team will need with all the youth and newcomers is a steady hand, which is exactly what Clent brings to the table.
If the cats need more O from the pg position or a spark, Young is perfect for that. He is a little sporadtic at times, but I honestly expect BY to have a big year next year (in terms of a high quality role player)

Center/power forward are positions I would like to bolster.  Colon should be much improved, but if he gets in foul trouble I don’t want to have to be in the position where Beasley has to play on the blocks.  I would rather have him play a bit to the outside so he can use his outside shot to his advantage and then to crash the boards after shots to pick up rebounds.  Hoskins can play in the interior but he is a tad too short to be effective.  Hopefully Dubovitsky is strong enough to spell Colon too.

When Brown gets some experience, he and Stewart should be fine at PG...

Where are the Clent haters?  I'm disappointed in their turnout on this thread.

i don't 'hate' clent (how could you?) just 'hate' the lack of consistent scoring and assists.

For his role, I thought he did a fairly good job in the scoring department, especially in Big 12 play.  He needs to improve his A:TO numbers next year though.

Who would you have run the point?
