Guy on Wabash claims that Jamar Samuels has announced his commitment to KSU via face book or myspace...forget which.
If so, great news...but is this one of the two mystery kids that Martin referred to getting locked up during the summer? I think this guy looks like a great get, but I sure wouldn't call it the beginning of BDRCOAT.

Are you serious? Samuels is the kind of player that Wooly would have given his left nut for. Now he's just chopped liver?
The kid averaged 22 pts and 9 rebounds as a junior. I think he may be a solid player.

I said I thought the kid is probably a great get...what more do you want?
Also, is the Wooly standard really that high?

He did give his right nut for Cartier.

I was the guy that got to feel cool because I broke the news on Wabash.
-
Wooly had at least 8 guys higher rated than Samuels, and another 8 or so at the same level. Samuels stock could still go up, but the idea that this guy is out of Wooly's league is at this point is silly. Beasley and Walker? yes. Three star unranked players? hardly. The only type of player Wooly never got was top 50 highschool guys....5-star guys.

Yosh. This is a 3 star player that has alot of interest. Can you name any other player other Cartier that got that much attention under JW? Marcus Hayden? No.
-
i can name some quality jucos, and some hs guys that bailed.
outside of that, it's pretty much cartier. no offense to stewie.

Any clue on what his ranking might be? I hear he is committed to KSU, and would love to see him sneak into the top 150.

Re: Jamar Samuels ranking Reply
If he gets in, it will be a sneak.
borderline 150. pretty much right at the mean for a wooldridge HS recruit.

Jamar Samuels has decided he wants to continue playing alongside his AAU mates, Sutton and Michael Beasley.
He's ours

And he is playing this upcoming season. This staff is amazing and hard working.

Sorry, I haven't been on the board much lately. How is Samuels graduating early? I thought he had his whole senior year ahead of him
Excuse my ignorance...but you should all be used to it by now :D

he could be one of those prep school players that has 5 years of hs before college.
brandon rush had 6 kids and was 37 years old when he enrolled in lowrents.

True about Rush, but I thought last year was Samuel's Junior year? They list them as 5th year preps if they are.

My understanding is that this year is Samuels true SR year. He was planning on a 5th year at Patterson Prep, presumably to improve his stock, but has decided against it. He's on track to graduate in May.

"Jamar Samuels (Patterson) – Jamar, a 6’8” 200lb junior, has greatly improved his game at Patterson, as he attacks the rim forcibly, rebounds, and challenges shooters defensively. His aggressive play against Our Savior saw Samuels attempt to dunk on a defender’s head, get fouled and briefly retreat to the bench to regroup. Jamar wasn’t hurt, and the sequence showed an increased level of toughness he has developed.
His outside game is developing, as are Samuel’s dribble drive skills. He is head and shoulders above last year, in both areas, and the 20+ points he logged both days illustrates it."

Improve the stock for what? NBA?? or for going to a better conference?

This is Samuels' 4th year of HS. He was planning on going a 5th year, likely at Patterson. However, the NCAA just changed the rules regarding elgibility.
Starting with next year's class (08), you will now need to pass 16 core credits (right now it is 14) with 15 of those occuring in your first 4 years of HS. As it has been, kids have been getting a bunch of those credits in that 5th year at a prep school, but now you will only be able to get 1. This is going to eliminate a bunch of the 5th year, prep school players.
Evidently, as Samuels looked at where he is at, I would guess he is already has the credits (14) to graduate and it would actually be more difficult for him to be in next year's class b/c he would need 2 more credits and he can only take 1 and be elgible. Granted, that is speculation on my part, but that would be my guess. It could also be that he's at 13 or something and he can get 1 more this summer and still get in. In any case with this rule change it appears he's better off trying to get in with this class than next year's.

Just speculation on my part, but for college. I don't think there were a lot of high majors offering in the early period. Obviously that has changed after a solid year. Since he was already on track to graduate high school in four years, I can't conceive of any other logical reason to go for a 5th year.
