Big 12, ESPN expand hoops coverage
By BLAIR KERKHOFF
The Kansas City Star
The Big 12 and ESPN today will announce an agreement that will provide more
basketball games on the sports cable giant networks from 2008-2016.
The new deal calls for men's basketball to continue its Big Monday slot on
ESPN and add a weekly Wednesday night game on ESPN2 during conference
season. ESPN also will produce a weekly Big 12 highlights program.
Also, ESPN properties will televise every game of the men's postseason
tournament.
ESPNU will televise up to 25 Big 12 events during the calendar year,
including women's basketball, softball, baseball, wrestling and volleyball.
ABC will keep the football championship game.
"The Big 12 will receive more exposure than it's ever had," Big 12
commissioner Kevin Weiberg said.

I assume this ends the notion of a Big XII network.
-
Wow. A pac 10 challenge and expanded ESPN coverage.
Weiberg is actually starting to care about basketball. Miracle.
-
This is wonderful news
:woohoo:
- Now, if only they could get more big 12 football on ESPN.... 8)
-
Meh.
I was hoping for an exclusive Fox (the real one, not FSN) deal for football and basketball.

That would have been gold. This is a bronze, imo. Also, it starts in 2008...post Beasley and Walker.

I wonder how expensive it would be to set up a streaming webcast of the football games that aren't televised for k-state? I don't care if I have to watch it on the computer, I just want to watch the damn games.
Of course, I'm at every game I can afford to go to anyways so I guess it wouldn't help me a lot personally.

we need more HD coverage of big 12 sports

Our TV deals will suck ass until everyone decides to pack up and move to the great plains.

Exactly. This is a nice improvement for us.
-
Is being produced by ESPN the same thing as ESPN+?
-
I think the bigger question is, does this truly increase the number of Erin Andrews appearances in Manhattan?

I'm going to miss all those commercials. :frown:
