Just so no one forgets.

3rd in the league in OPS among catchers at .976 behind Toby Hall (3 AB), Jorge Posada (leads MLB in avg.)

T-6 in BB by a catcher (15)

T-5 in XBH by a catcher (14)

T-1 in best hair for a catcher (mullet)

Homerun #8

Is he the Royals All-Star rep. this year?

No love for Gil? He's 3rd in the AL in ERA at 2.44, about 3:1 K's to bb's ratio, and has a whip of 1.24.

I think catcher would be an easier position for a Royal get the invite for, rather than a SP

Good mullet wearing catchers in the past 15 years:
Darren Daulton- Phillies, Marlins
Mike Piazza- Dodgers, Mets, Padres, A's (now a DH)

IIRC the coaches select the pitchers for the ASG. If Gil can continue to pitch well (minus his last 2 starts), he'll be selected. I miss the days when the Royals had true all star talent, like Ken Harvey.

13 homers before July, I think he's sniffing a bid to the mid-summer classic

but the royal who has the best stats at the time never gets picked.

meh...he really has no shot -- Pudge and Victor Martinez or Mauer will make it for the American League as catchers.  They'll have to take a Royal, so they'll go with a pitcher, so probably Meche (although Leyland could make a case for Riske instead).

Middle relievers don't get selected, and Mauer was out a month
