Title: Yamon Figurs gets pimped by ESPN
Post by: Powercat Matt on April 19, 2007, 05:34:36 PM
One of the draft analysts Todd McShay picked Figurs as his #1 choice for drafting a kick returner. Said he'd be a great day 2 pick...then herbstreit went nuts because mcshay didn't pick ted ginn jr (hello, kirk--people don't tune in to hear the blatantly obvious, mcshay went with something different and figurs is the perfect under the radar pick ).

kirk herbstreit= :jerkoff:

I'd pick Ginn.  5 stars out of HS.

I'm pretty sure anyone with any sort of draft intelligence would pick ginn first...but mcshay was going after a kick return specialist, while ginn is someone that can be used pretty much anywhere on the field.

draft chatter is that a team that takes Ginn is only getting a return specialist too as he is not ready to be a receiver at the pro-level.  I guess the pro scouts aren't sold on his route running ability or his toughness to disengage and create separation from pro corners.

Either way, I don't get why everyone is so in awe by Yamon.  He had a great game v. Texas, and supplied the only play in the bowl game for KSU, but how many times did he fumble against Missouri.  I think he is fast and deserves a shot, but if David Allen couldn't make it at the pro-level, no way Figurs lasts more than 2 years.

figurs couldnt hold a candle to aaron lockett.  and thats not a comment on how good aaron lockett was.

Any awe that is coming Yamon's way is almost completely because of his 40 time in the combine. I've heard too that Ginn is being criticized for his NFL receiver capabilities...i just love it when herbstreit gets his panties all in a bunch when somebody disses one of his buckeyes

Figures is the Brandon Archer of the Special teams, good the last few years, but wouldn't have sniffed the field in the glory days.

Meh.

Figurs would probably be returning for 2/3rds of the Big XII teams, at least his senior year.

Comparing him to Sproles and David Allen is tough.  They were both excellent, and I think they both had a better supporting cast on return teams than Yamon did this year.

Still, as they say, you can't coach speed.  He was the fastest guy at the combine.  Ginn is probably the only one faster than him in the draft.

How many people have run a 4.3 or below at NFL combines?

Ginn will make it in the NFL... look how well Santonio Holmes did in his first year once he got healthy. I would be willing to bet that Figurs will make more of an impact returning kicks than Ginn will. People will be drafting Figurs on more of the basis of returning kicks, and he'll be put into that role quickly... Its tough for a Ginn type day 1 receive to learn his way into the NFL at receiver and at the same time return kicks.

Lockett had one good season with Bishop throwin him the ball. Other than that, he was no more than Brandon Clark to me.
Figurs sr yr>>>>>>>>>locketts soph-sr yr
He dropped more balls than anyone
Troy Polomalu
